𓆝 My second pseuds is Dove, where I post dead dove fanfiction or fanfics I don’t particularly like all that much (ahem-sustenance). They will often contain heavy trigger warnings. Luckily you can just filter out that pseud if that’s not your thing. I also will rarely promote fics I write on that account here.

The first timeline follows L growing up in a Catholic orphanage established by missionaries after the Cold War as a defense against communism, and an opportunity to instil Christian values. There, the priest that visits from time to time abuses L and the other children. Knowing that no one will believe accusations of abuse alone, L instead gathers evidence that the priest is laundering money. He anonymously testifies under the pseudonym "L," marking the first time he ever uses the name. Watari hears about the case and eventually takes him in. The second timeline focuses on Wammy's House. L and Beyond meet as children. They're both deeply traumatized in wildly incompatible ways, and instead of helping each other heal, they spend years making each other worse. Their relationship ends up defining both of them and making B commit the LABB murders, but his name stays anonymous so he is not killed by Kira. The third timeline takes place during the Yotsuba arc. Light notices a scar on L's body in the shape of a "B." L refuses to explain where it came from, insisting the person responsible is already dead. Light doesn't believe him. This becomes one of the earliest fractures in their relationship because L absolutely refuses to reveal the names of the people who've hurt him, because he does not see himself as a victim.

The fourth timeline, technically the first chronologically, since the fic opens with it, begins with Beyond burning down Wammy's House. Beyond believes that he and L are fundamentally connected, so when he hears about L's "death," he correctly concludes that L is actually alive and has been captured instead. He also kills Roger and many of the children, gives Mello the burn scar he has in canon (just much earlier), and unintentionally forces Mello, Near, and Matt into a life on the run. Together, they try to preserve what's left of L's legacy while Mello becomes determined to hunt Beyond down for revenge. Meanwhile, Beyond is trying to rescue L. Unfortunately for him, out of everyone in the world, Beyond is probably the last person L would ever want rescuing him.
