bpd mello always expecting people to leave, and always being the one to leave first. him thinking he’ll end up alone, so he ends up a self fulfilling prophecy, moving from being extremely attached to pushing (and literally running) away and splitting on them to protect himself.

when he leaves matt at wammy’s, a part of him was glad. he won’t have to worry about it anymore. he has the control, and even if it hurts, it would hurt a lot more to be left without expecting it.

he knows how attached he gets, so it’s hard for him to allow himself to develop relationships like the one he had with matt.

he ends up hurting the people he loves out of fear and out of thinking he is bad for them, he knows he’s a lot, he knows they’ll think so too eventually.

so he does them what he thinks is a favor and he leaves.

i really do think mello and beyond would have an interesting, but unhealthy dynamic.

b would see himself in mello and kind of have a weird sortve fascination with him, while mello would look up to him due to wanting some form of praise and love from an older figure that he doesn’t get from anyone else.

i think mello would see a lot of his issues in beyond, being second, living in someone’s shadow, being so angry at being just an “option.” and it would kind of end with them instigating each other to be a worse version of themselves. they would be a very toxic dynamic and i don’t think it’d be super healthy, but there would be a level of understanding there.

mello would feel physically sick when news about beyond’s murders got out. if someone he related to and connected to so much could do something like that, what does that say about him? is he the same?

the worst part is he still empathizes with him. understands, almost. it makes him feel a certain way about himself that he misses and mourns someone like b.
