Summary: Thomas was more than worried when his newest eevee got sick but after a quick trip to a healing centre it seemed like all his problems were gone. Unfortunately, a particularly sneaky eevee and trashy eevee recognise their poor friend.
It was sometime after lunch. The little eevee could tell not only from the sudden lack of humans in the restaurants and cafes around him but from the fact his companion was rummaging through another bin that a human had put out only a few minutes ago. He never understood why he did so especially since they were perfectly capable of convincing humans to give them food. Well, mostly him since humans weren’t keen on his friend’s smell.
The two were as typical of an eevee you could get. Though the one half sticking out of the trash can was constantly filthy and the other had markings around his left eye. It didn’t hinder him in any way; in fact humans seemed to take a liking to his little oddity which made it much easier to trick them into giving him something (or for his friend to take it).
The marked eevee kept an eye out of the alleyway for any humans that might see them. They had a tendency to think they were lost or misplaced by an owner. Something that annoyed the marked eevee a lot. He sat with his paws folded neatly under him as he glared at any human that passed by, some kind of attempt at intimidation from the small fluffy creature.
Suddenly, a human ran past with several other eevees following them into the healing centre. The marked eevee raised an eyebrow, an ear doing the same involuntarily, as he silently questioned what had happened. There was a few minutes of waiting for the human to exit again but he quickly lost interest and went back to glaring. Instead, it was about an hour or so after the human and eevees had run in that they came back out, much less panicked though the human still seemed nervous. The marked eevee’s tail wrapped around his body making him have to glare over the fluff of his tail as he watched the human tend to whatever was in its arms. A low growl rumbled in the eevee’s throat, ears flattened against his head, as he waited for the eevee manipulating beast to leave. The human stood there for what felt like an eternity to the eevee as he watched it talk to the thing it was holding. It was only when the human turned at just the right angle, that he recognised the poor creature it held.
Immediately, the eevee’s head perked up, ears straightening to try and hear the human, now interested in the human’s actions. His right paw came out from under him as it tried to feel for the other eevee rummaging in the garbage while not taking his eyes off the human. When his paw finally felt the fluff of the other eevee’s tail, he grabbed hold of it and pulled the pokemon out of the bin, causing him to flop out and land ungracefully on his face next to the marked eevee. As the eevee pushed itself up using his front paws, he shook the shock (and rubbish) out of his system, long ears following each movement. The eevee still held onto a can of something in its mouth as it stared at the marked eevee who was still highly alert. He watched him for a moment, chewing on his can absentmindedly, before he looked at where his friend was staring. His eyes widened and the can dropped from his mouth as he stared at the little eevee in the human’s arms. Then the human began walking away, the three other eevees trotting along behind it. The marked eevee growled and stalked after the human, the other eevee quickly picked up his can and followed a little less sneakily.
Thomas could not explain how happy he was that Virgil was ok. Just a stomach bug, thankfully. The nurse gave him a few pills for him to take every two hours and told to let him rest with no fighting for the next few days. It was easy to tell his other pokemon were just as relieved as he was since they had stopped jumping around his legs, trying to get a better look at Virgil,. The little eevee in question was just slowly falling asleep in his arms which at the time was making him panic more until the nurse explained that Virgil was just taking a nap to sleep off his sickness. He’d wanted to put Virgil in his pokeball so he could rest better but that idea was quickly shot down after he suggested it and received the kind of death glare that told him Virgil would fight going into the thing as much as possible.
He sighed as he walked to the park in the center of town where they could just sit down and rest after each of their mini heart attacks. Carefully, Thomas placed the sleeping eevee on his lap as he sat on a bench, much to Roman’s annoyance who tried to snuggle up as close as he could without being on him. Thomas chuckled a little at his starter’s jealousy and patted him on the head before taking a small bowl and water-bottle out of his backpack. Placing the bowl on the ground, he filled it up so Logan and Patton could have something to drink as they rested.
They were only there for a few minutes, Thomas unconsciously stroking the sleeping eevee’s fur when another eevee slid into the bowl. The eevee put its whole head into the bowl and lifted it up, whipping its head back and forth as it tried to look around with the bowl covering its face. The two shiny eevees that were cuddled together at Thomas’ feet stared at the eevee with just as much confusion as their trainer. With one ear up and the other down, they watched the eevee as it slowly figured out what was wrong. It finally flipped the bowl off and looked at the two other eevees. Logan tried to sniff the eevee to see if it was ok only to flinch back at the smell, ears flat to his head and tongue out in disgust at the thing in front of him. Patton didn’t seem to mind as much which made the trashy eevee walk to him. He stayed still and calm as the eevee approached him so it could see he would not attack or run. However, the other eevee seemed to take his manner as an invitation. It got down in a playful stance, making a little bark, and rushed forward to rub against the other. This does not please Logan.
The disgusted eevee stands to go behind the trash eevee and grabs its tail in his mouth to drag it away from Patton. The trashy eevee yelps and spins around to swat a paw at the pokemon that dared pull it. Logan backs away for a second but quickly started returning the attacks with his own swatting at the trash eevee’s face. Roman seemed to realise what was happening and jumped down to join the fight with his own bark and growl, fur puffed up to make him look more scary. Patton is less willing to join the fight and tries to break them up with concerned barks. “Hey! Stop it! Roman, don’t you dare-” Thomas stands up, annoyed that this random eevee interrupted their down time but more annoyed that they were all fighting now. He stood up, placing Virgil on the bench as he tried to stop the fight, not seeing the real issue behind him.
From the side of the bench, the marked eevee watched as his friend distracted the human, waiting until it was completely focused on him. Once the human was no longer a problem, the marked eevee looked at the little eevee on the bench, still happily sleeping unaware of what was happening. He jumped up onto the bench and ran across it, picking up the eevee by the scruff of its neck on the way and jumping off the other side.
As soon as his paws touched the ground, the marked eevee took off, holding the little eevee as tightly as possible, and the trash eevee ran after him. Patton turned around when he heard the thud of the eevee landing on the ground. His ears stood up and a surprised bark came from him before he gave chase of the trash eevee. Logan stared for a moment before realising Virgil was gone and quickly tried to catch up. Roman was slightly slower, only seeing his friends running after the trash eevee, but followed anyway as back up. Thomas wasn’t sure what he was happening; all his eevees were just running after another eevee and they weren’t the type to go looking for a fight. He turns to the bench to grab Virgil and run after them, only to see that he wasn’t there. He spins around, calling his name, to try and find him until he looked at where his eevees had run off to. “Oh, no.”
To anyone else, the sight might have been amusing. Watching eevee after eevee run past with varying levels of concern on their faces until a human (probably their trainer) runs past with all the grace of a snorlax. However, this was much less amusing to the human who was slowly losing his pokemon. Curse their tiny speedy legs!
The marked eevee sprinted through alleyways and crowds of humans to shake off the other eevees. Unfortunately, his friend was making it much harder to lose them. If he’d had more than one brain cell, he might have realised that the marked eevee wanted him to run in a different direction and they would meet up at their hideout once they lost the eevees. This was not the case. He would cry out to the trash eevee to tell him the plan but he refused to lose any grip on the little eevee. So he was stuck with taking more and more difficult confusing routes to get rid of the extra eevees.
At some point Roman had realised that there was more at stake than simply winning a fight, especially since Patton was the one leading the chase. The trash eevee had run into a particularly dense crowd which gave him time to catch up to Logan who was stopped by a human walking in front of him. The two tried to look through the sea of human legs but had lost track of Patton and the two stray eevees. Patton had not hesitated to run through the humans, ignoring any in his way and weaving through each of them to reach the marked eevee.
Roman stayed focused on the crowd as Logan looked around to try and find an easier way through. Eyes sharpening, he nudged Roman and ran to the ladder that was propped up against a stall. Climbing up to the roof, they could finally see the trash eevee and kidnapping eevee on the other side of the crowd, going into an alley. Patton was slowly catching up but was still quite far behind them. Logan looked around for a way over and spotted a flock of pidgeys flying very low over the crowd. He nudged Roman again and gestured to the pokemon. They’d only have a second to run across since the first one running would knock off the balance of the pidgeys, leaving the other behind. They prepared to run and as soon as Logan had jumped off the stall and onto the back of the first pidgey Roman was following. Logan had the easy job but Roman was quickly becoming aware that the plan was falling apart. Each time Logan landed on a pidgey it would stop for a second to see what had happened, giving Roman only a second of an opening to get on its back to keep up. They were reaching the last of the pidgeys that had realised something was wrong. The birds stopped to look back at their friends which caused Logan to almost slip a couple of times but he soon reached the roof of the stall. Roman was less lucky.
The second to last pidgey had started to fly back, making Roman miss his jump and fall to the floor. Roman cried out from shock and landing a little off. Landing on the ground by the stall, Logan looked into the alley Patton had gone in only to see him at the last second turn a corner. He turned back to the hurt eevee, running over to see if anything was really wrong. A quick check made him realise nothing was broken or seriously damaged but Roman’s front leg was sprained so they wouldn’t be able to keep running. Helping him to the side of the crowd, they waited for their trainer to catch up and find them.
It was around ten minutes after the chase had begun that the marked eevee glanced behind but couldn’t see anyone other than his friend. He kept running for a little bit, in case they hadn’t lost them. He slowed down and sighed only to be knocked into from behind by the trash eevee. He gave a small noise of annoyance which was mostly ignored by the trash eevee who began walking home. It didn’t take long until they reached the few boxes hidden behind a pile of trash they called home.
The marked eevee wandered to a ruffed up pillow and carefully placed the still sleeping eevee on the stuffing that was escaping the pillow. Cuddling up closely to the small eevee, he began cleaning and rubbing against him, trying to rid his poor friend of that horrid human’s smell. The trash eevee left the marked eevee to taking care of their friend while he looked through his rubbish pile for food. A trubbish slowly wandered into their home, unaware of the three eevees that currently resided there. Usually, the trash eevee would happily play with the pokemon but since they weren’t going to take any chances of losing their friend again he rushed forward and tackled the pokemon away. The trubbish jumped in surprise but quickly ran off before it got in more trouble. The trash eevee went back to his rubbish pile and picked up an old bag of pokemon treats. He placed the bag next to the pillow and lied down, waiting for his friend to wake up so they could get to playing.
Suddenly, one of the eevees that had been chasing them barged into the hideout, growling and ready to fight. The marked eevee stood over Virgil (still sleeping) and growled back, the trash eevee quickly realising the situation and growling as well. The trash eevee tried to tackle Patton but the trained pokemon was much faster and agile leading him to run into the trash that had been behind Patton. The marked eevee jumped down from the pillow after his friend was incapacitated and prepared to tackle him as well. Before he can start running though, Patton runs around him using swift and attacks him from the side. The marked eevee was flung into the side of a bin and growled. He watched the shiny eevee puff up its fur as much as possible and flatten its ears to its head, growling dangerously at him more like a charizard or nidoking than a tiny little eevee. The marked eevee ran forward into a tackle only for the shiny eevee to dodge him. He runs into another box but turns and smirks as a large metal bucket that had been precariously placed above them fell onto the eevee.
He jumped onto the metal bucket, sitting proudly atop his catch as the trash eevee escaped the trash. The bucket slid a little as the eevee below it tried to escape but then it went still. He sat up properly, head held high, as the trash eevee began making taunting noises at the bucket. His pride was almost immediately shattered as the bucket began wobbling and a loud scrapping noise came from it, like two pieces of metal cutting through one another. The bucket suddenly seems to crumple in on itself making the marked eevee rush to jump off it and land next to the trash eevee. The top half of the bucket slides at a slanted cut before it’s kicked off by the shiny eevee who had used iron tail. Patton jumped out of what was left and kicked the remains away. The other eevees stood at the ready to fight for their friend. Patton ran at the two, preparing to use take down on the one closest to him. The trash eevee wasn’t fast enough to dodge the attack as the marked eevee had run to the side.
As soon as the attack landed, the trash eevee fell to the ground having fainted. Patton moved away from the fainted eevee, closer to Virgil on the pillow. The marked eevee ran to his friend and nudged him a little. When he didn’t wake up, the marked eevee pulled his friend over his back and glared at Patton who stood guard over Virgil. The marked eevee stared at the little eevee, trying to think of what to do to save him. Eventually, he gave up and ran away.
Patton relaxed once the marked eevee was gone and turned around to Virgil. Rushing to him, he looked him over but found he wasn’t hurt. He picked him up carefully by the scruff of his neck and began his search for his friends and trainer.
Thomas was panicked beyond belief. Finding one of his pokemon hurt and not knowing the other two’s conditions was more than worrying for any trainer. He’d ran around the city yelling his pokemon’s names and asking random strangers if they’d seen them but it was hopeless. The sun had set and the street lamps had turned on a few hours ago. He was tempted to call it a night and continue the search the next day, especially since Roman kept making little yelps when he moved the wrong way in his arms, but a shiny eevee wasn’t safe out in the city and Virgil was already sick and he always panicked in fights. Then all of a sudden, Logan made a small barking noise and was running ahead. Thomas immediately ran after him, having learnt his lesson today. It was only when he looked at where he was running did he realise that there was a shiny eevee ahead of them, running towards them.
When they finally met halfway, Thomas fell to his knees and grabbed hold of the two pokemon. He hugged them tightly and finally Virgil woke up to complain about the affection. He tried to push away the other eevees who were all rubbing and licking him, making little noises of happiness. Eventually, they pull away, each of the eevees’ tails were wagging happily behind them. Virgil yawned and cuddled further into his trainer, completely unaware of all the panic he had caused him. Thomas yawns as well and stands up. “I think we deserve some rest.”
The next day, after some much-needed rest and food the little troupe left the city. Mostly to continue their journey but also to get away from the kidnapping eevees. They made sure Roman’s ankle was better, though he still argued he needed to ride on Thomas’ shoulders, and Virgil’s sickness was almost completely gone. Everything was back to normal. Except maybe the two eevees stalking them.
