I can kinda see the appeal of non toxic Jonatello, but I'm struggling to understand the appeal of toxic Jonatello. I would assume no one would like a relationship like that in real life? Is it because its fiction it feels less problematic?

I kinda wanna understand the thoughts of toxic Jonatello shippers when it comes to liking it. (If it isn't too much of a problem of course)

I swear I'm not trying to be rude!! I love your art and the concept is a little bit interesting! Just kinda wondering the appeal for Toxic Jonatello.

You're totally fine for asking this question, as I understand my interest in exploring this type of dynamic or relationship between these two is an acquired taste that is personally curated for myself !

Right off the bat, I do want to emphasize that my toxic Jonatello content is for myself and always has been for myself- I don't express / explore it for anyone else, and any appeal that it gets from other people is kind of "coincidental", so to speak-? Lmao (How others choose to interpret Toxic Jonatello in their own works is their decision, you know?)

Since this question is directed at me and how I feel personally, no I do not seek this kind of relationship in real life ! The idea is less about that and more like a character study in its own way ! Taking some of the more unflattering characteristics of Donnie and Casey respectively and putting them at the forefront when envisioning them first getting into a relationship- Really showcasing how much they need to still grow as people, as a lot of the behaviors and thought process I use for my Toxic Jonatello content are inherently immature to some degree. A person who's more mentally and emotionally developed wouldn't be this overly attached or find such security in their romantic partner over stepping boundaries they normally wouldn't allow someone to overstep, you know? I've always been a big fan of the perspective that Donnie and Casey would be the worst thing for each other before they would be the best thing, and this kinda trickles into that for me !

It's also just personally interesting for me to explore how a relationship can be toxic in a less expected or "traditional" sense- Because I feel like most of the time when you say a romantic relationship is toxic, you think of constant arguing or berating or such obvious signs that they don't like each other / want to stay together, you know? But this feels like the exact opposite of that spectrum, and it feels somewhat realistic for me to have Donnie and Casey not think that their relationship is problematic to one another (And the others for that matter-) simply because they're both so happy and agreeable with each other-! Once again bringing up how they're both very emotionally and mentally immature with their failure to recognize this-

It's also the ways in which it speaks to their pain for me too-! How, hypothetically since this is my own interpretation of their characters and what they could be going through, it shows how deeply they want someone to love them for themselves and to mend the broken parts of themselves-! (I feel like a lot of people get into relationships that aren't good for them, platonic or romantic, because they're hurting and wanted somebody to "fix" that,, Or maybe that person made them forget about their insecurities or something,, Lmao) Like, how I personally feel like 2012 Casey has been very neglected in his life by pretty much everyone, family and friends alike- So he latched onto Donnie's obsessive attachment style for that reason. Or how Donnie feels so unlovable because of what he is (a mutant) and truly believes that he'll never been seen as more than that by humans, so when Casey (a human) gives him unprompted affection or compliments, it feeds that life long dream to be wanted despite his "flaws" (I can also see Casey expressing his enjoyment of being with him because he's never wanted a normal life anyway, referencing his conversation with April in "Mutagen Man Unleashed"- And I think having a mutant ninja turtle boyfriend that he can never tell other people about would definitely not be "normal" ! Lmao). These are very simple examples, but it's interesting to think about those two having such tunnel vision with one another- Wholeheartedly thinking that they're healing one another when in reality they're just feeding the flames of a lot of unresolved hurt within each other,, ! I think it would force them both to have to face a lot of their issues as people-! Lmao

Again, all of this is curated for myself ! I like exploring relationships that feel like two oncoming trains about to collide (Lmao), and drawing them in the thick of that situation is the most fun for me ! I think if I were to draw the more depressing yet emotionally strengthening sides of this specific take on their relationship, people might see my vision a little bit better- But I'm not always in the mood to get into that with my art a lot of the time, so it's definitely something I'd write about (Like right now-) than anything ! It's also an indulgence on my interest, combining romance / horror / and sadness (I'm a sucker for just really sad movies, you know? Especially if the setting is realistic, like a family struggling to coexist or something-) ! If people enjoy this content from me, cool ! If they don't, also cool ! You know? 👍

No, I completely understand what you're trying to say !

I feel like my definition of toxic is very much catered to my perspective- So When I do things like toxic Jonatello, it's not in a "They're both mentally draining towards each other / argue all the time / Practically hate each other but feel trapped in the relationship" kind of way- Which I think is the most typical association we have for a toxic relationship, you know? So because of this, I think I honestly could see Leo and Timothy being slightly toxic by my own definition of what that would be and look like-! From my perspective, I could see Timothy being a little bit too reliant on Leo + Leo's bad habit of micromanaging the people he cares about while Leo is costly putting way too much weight into Timothy's constant mood or well-being even though Timothy never asked him to do that while essentially turning Timothy into another "task in his long list of responsibilities" or another *project to work on"-! 😭👍

Outside of Timothy though, I could definitely see something like that happening with Leo and Usagi (Not the canonical 2012 Usagi, of course-) or Leo and Yuichi (Depending on which one you like more-) ! Maybe it's a situation of the two of them being at different places in their life- Like how you said Leo constantly "wants" (so to speak) to be this stability for the people closest to him but maybe Usagi or Yuichi is going through a phase in their life where they need instability or have no desire for such emotional and mental security-? 👀

I've been on Draxum brainrot recently, and Im very sour that we didn't see more of him bonding with the turtles (which I assume would have come if not for S2 being cut short).

What do you think his relationship would be like with the boys and how would they get there? QuQ

I absolutely agree with you that the series getting cut short absolutely ruined our chances of seeing those relationships build canonically within the show-! 😭

I think Draxum would never truly be 100% vulnerable with them, but his own ways of showing care or concern would definitely become more recognizable to the Turtles over time ! I'm sure Mikey would be the first to see it with his siblings calling him delusional- LMAO

• Leo:

As funny as it would be for Leonardo to be a Leo astrologically, I think Libra is fitting for him ! Has a strong moral code and sense of justice, values balance, can be witty and flirtatious (even without meaning to be)- For the most part very easy going, but can have control freak tendencies (Like his possessives over his leadership role-) ! I think this air sign describes Leo pretty well (Especially given all the brothers are technically Libras if we take the mutation day as their "birthday"- But don't think it's that universal for them astrology wise-!). ♎

• Donnie:

He's definitely a Virgo to me, like- LMAO / I know Aquarius could also fit him, but I personally would put that for a possible rising / ascendant sign rather than his sun sign ! Very intelligent, logical, can be a bit of a romantic (A bit is an understatement with Donnie- LMAO) ! But also pretty critical and judgemental, even to ones self- Heavy, almost debilitating, overthinking is a big Virgo trait I would say (As someone with a Virgo rising- LMAO), and that's absolutely a plight Donnie endures as a character. ♍

• Raph:

I honestly see Raph as a Cancer ! I know most would think he's a fire sign, not a water one, but I've seen / met some temperamental water signs in my time- (LMAO) Cancers do have a reputation of being emotionally guarded and easily provoked, but they also have a reputation for having the biggest hearts and very nurturing underneath their protective exteriors ! They're also known for being kind of sensitive, which I think fits rough incredibly well as somebody who is quick to make jokes or jabs at others but is very reactive towards receiving them-! ♋

• Mikey:

I definitely agree with Mikey being a Pisces (A headcanon I've seen used for Mikey before-) ! Pisces get described as being bubbly and fun and living on a different plane of existence and everyone else, Which I think fits his character really well ! But they also can be known for being instigators (i.e. Mikey knowingly doing things that get a rise out of his siblings-), avoidant towards confrontation, and have escapism tendencies- Which can equally describe Mikey as a character, 100%-

• Karai:

This might seem ironic, But I actually think Karai would be a very fitting Leo ! I think a fire sign is incredibly fitting for her- Leos are known for their passion, for being very self-driven, And oftentimes attention grabbers in a room whether they mean to be or not. Well I think it is a questionable stereotype that Leos are very self-absorbed, I think to some extent Karai does have some form of vanity-! They're also known for having a, "whatever it takes" kind of attitude towards reaching their goals, something we see numerous times with Karai both during her involvement with the Foot Clan and her own personal rebuilding of it- Which, as we all know, has been both an attribute and a hindrance with her character,, ♌

• April:

I always saw April as a Sagittarius, so it feels interesting to know that her canonical birthday would make her a Sagittarius- LMAO / There are many positive qualities Sagittarius have, such as being big-spirited or very generous or having a habit of putting themselves in other people's shoes ! But If I'm being real, the attributes of Sagittarius that made me think April is absolutely one is the more negative trait she presents in the show- Such as being incredibly impulsive, appearing as though they have disregard for how their actions can affect others (Even if that wasn't their intention-), struggling with commitment or being very avoidant of addressing certain kinds of issues with people,, To leave it on a more positive note though, Sagittarius tend to be people who love expanding their knowledge of the world around them, and April had moments like that too ! ♐

• Casey:

Maybe I'm being incredibly biased, but he feels like a Taurus to me ! We're Incredibly stubborn, can be possessive of our things or our interpersonal relationships, and have a habit of being very emotionally detached (Moments where Casey says sort of ill-fitting or tone-deaf things, how Leo told him he has the sensitivity of a rabid dog-). But, we're also loyal to a fault, have nearly an unbreakable determination when we set our sites on something, and are ridiculously patient (Like how Casey lets all the disrespect he faces from his friends slide all the time- You cannot tell me he doesn't have patience- 🗣️) ! I might be the only person in the fandom that feels this way, but in the first three episodes we meet Casey as a character, his personality feels different than the one that we get for the rest of the show-?? But that specific character disposition he had in the beginning screams Taurus to me- I can't explain further- ♉

Leo (Who is Ragatha) : Ningyō / This one is questionable-? But I got reminded of those Japanese paper dolls used for rituals (Using that term loosely-) ! So I thought, "Why not?"-

Donnie (Who is Gangle) : Concertina / It's a word that can describe entangled wires (specifically barbed), and it was the best I could come up with right now-

Raph (Who is Zooble) : ?? I have no clue-

Mikey (Who is Caine) : N-Den (Short for Novelty Dentures) / Cause he talks with fake or toy dentures and I'm not religious so I'm not giving him a biblical reference for his name like Caine- I could've dug into Renaissance lore or something, but I didn't so- Lmao

Karai (Who is Gummigoo) : Vipectin / A combination of the words viper (snake) and pectin (gelatin)

April (Who is Pomni) : Query / Like inquiry, cause she's constantly asking questions and trying to understand the world around her I guess ! Plus, I read that Pomni had archaic Polish origins that meant "to be mindful" or something like that?

Casey (Who is Jax) : Conejito / Spanish for bunny rabbit (Purposefully excluded the "el"-), which is a bit on the nose but I also think it's humorous considering Mikey would've named them and in S2 ("Mazes & Mutants") he made a joke about not speaking Spanish- Lmao

Master Splinter (Who is Kinger) : Uma or Ryūme / It's the Shogi equivalent to the Horse / Knight piece in Chess-

Ice Cream Kitty (Who is Bubble) : Equally have no clue-

Shinigami (Who is Ribbit) : Croak / Cause amphibians croak and it's also a term for death, with is what the Shinigami name / tite is associated with anyway-
