As promised, here’s my scanlation of the SMT1 OST liner notes that eirikrjs generously scanned that has Kazuma Kaneko talking shop about his pixel art philosophies. :D!

There’s a decent amount of ground covered here considering how short it is. Some of his advice is a little dated, as indicated by his references to sprite color pallet limitations on consoles during SMT1’s heyday, but hopefully this is still a fun look into how some of Atlus’ most iconic demon designs were originally handled. Pretty unorthodox jumping immediately into sprite work for a lot of demons!

Hello everyone! Welcome to a much more infrequent series than Stand Feature, Character Feature. This series will cover some of the more important original characters we’ll have in the game. We obviously won’t give any spoilers or anything away, but we’ll try to present these characters in a way that you can get behind.

To start, we’re going with one of the first original characters we developed for the story, Jun Hogo (保護 順).

Jun Hogo is a young inspector and one of the few female officers in Japan active in criminal investigations and general police work. She is also the protege of Ryohei Higashikata, and though she outranks him, she often turns to him for advice and support when doing field work. She is overcome by grief, however, when Ryohei dies under mysterious circumstances, and throws herself into solving what happened and bringing those responsible to justice.

Her stand is called ‘Canned Heat’, and it has the power to reflect ‘almost anything’… but that’s for another day, in another post.

Unfortunately, that’s all we can really share without spoiling anything, but I hope you enjoyed this first look at one of our new characters. We hope to show more with you in the future.
