If your friend gets mad that you don't wanna talk about a kink you don't have, the problem is not that they're into that kink (which like, I know that is a useless thing to say, the people who say this are those who believe implicitly in the relationship between kink and moral depravity as an incontestably causal one), it's that they're assholes and not good friends! But you can feel a greater, more immediate form of validation by going "NORMALIZE NOT LIKING THIS? IT'S OKAY TO BE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THIS?" as though some coterie of moronic nobodies on Discord is capable of "normalizing" anything at all or that the root societal cause that requires addressing is anything more than "Don't be an asshole"
This is an entirely adjacent subject and a tangent I'm not really ready to or willing to presently travel down, but it also annoys me how many things are said to be "normalized" when the core issue is that more often than not these things are already normalized within society, but given acceptable expressions not merely despite but explicitly through existing taboos surrounding those things, the "unacceptable" given form as a subject for explicit outrage and condemnation while the gears of society allow for it to continue being perpetuated in other forms outside of that which the taboo characterizes (see: every "pedo hunter" ends up getting arrested for having approximately 7 million terabytes of CSA on their computer, For Some Reason, rape continually being characterized as an act of stranger-on-stranger violence rather than overwhelmingly performed by close acquaintances/friends, etc.)
As a person with a lot of failry extreme kinks, there are plenty of people I don't talk to about them. There are also topics I find triggering and in kink circles I've never had trouble being like "hey can we not talk about [x]? Zero judgment but unfortunately I find the topic triggering." People are usually glad I flagged it and typically remember for future interactions.
Also that thing you're talking about in the last reblog here reminds me of a post I saw going around about a phenomenon they called "normalize loving parents" where the norm is subverted in specific ways in specific circles and someone gets so involved with those circles they forget that the counter to that subversion IS the norm. (If tumblr search wasn't a mess I'd try and find it to link here, but alas.)
