Hungarian Embroidery Sampler

I finished this sampler a few years ago but have not gotten around to framing it. Each design is from a different region of Hungary. The most difficult is probably the Irasos, which has a tricky stitch. The colour schemes were chosen to suit the patterns, although many variations can be found in Hungary.

Romare Bearden was one of the most influential African American artists of his generation. Collage was Bearden’s primary medium and his imagery reflects a rich cultural heritage shaped by his North Carolina birthplace, his childhood exposure to artists, writers, and musicians in Harlem, and African ritual traditions.
