when you accidentally back your ass up a little too much into his crotch and he gives your waist a quick squeeze, lowering his lips by your ear as he grumbles out a low “careful”

one of the things i like most about project hail mary is that ryland doesn't have a romance plot. it's such a relief to be able to watch an expansive, immersive sci fi movie about connection between all living beings and the power of courage and love between friends without gunking up the story with a romantic relationship. it emphasizes the immense sacrifice ryland was forced to make for all of humanity rather than shrinking that narrative down to one person

when you first see "good luck" on the inside of the coma bag at the start of the movie it just seems like a nice touch, a nice sendoff. but it feels so different later when you see him knocked out + being wheeled on a stretcher. the reality of the project team having to send him up instead of dubois. with the the flight crew, everyone knew all along that they would be leaving, and were prepared to see them go. they weren't prepared to say goodbye to grace. he worked with everyone and got along with every department. just imagining them writing that specifically for grace. good luck :(
