Still, in the off chance that such a being does exist; if out there, perhaps beyond the reach of constellations, amid the inferno of damnation, or atop the same worn earth he stands on, there was someone who had yet to forsake humanity, and had the power to change even just one person’s circumstances… if it was some sort of twisted requirement for someone to believe in a god, then… Then, his prayers would belong to this little moon—to this benevolent, fragile moon, to this god whose greatest weakness was his own selflessness. Choi couldn’t call him a powerless god, because etched in his name, Ireum-nim, is a power that effortlessly incites devotion and fear at the same time. Yet, for all the divinity his name contains, he has no authority to rewrite his circumstances. Still… ultimately, Ireum-nim… Soleum-ah was just another human, too.

Alternatively, to those without a name, he is Ireum-nim, the saint; but to Choi, he is Soleum-ah, a person trying to find home.
