General for final presentation

Your project is finished. All important drawings are there, this is what you are examined on, what you show at this occasion. If you need to leave something out, perhaps the last of three models can be made afterwards. 

The presentation is in english, prepare and translate important words and phrases so you can speak with flow. 

Make bulletpoints for you presentation. Mind that you have 15-20 min - it is a long time!

Finish with your main idea. Be concious of your last sentence. 

Perhaps you will have a projector and power point?

If you use refereces in your presentation, these must be clearly presented. 

Regarding your process, don't go through it from start to end, but choose one important step, pick up the model that helped you make that choice and talk about that particular decision. 

What you present is what will be discussed about your project. Don't leave things out for the jury to discover, present everything.

The attachment to the existing building is a bit blunt, attach to the dormer. 

Consider how the building meets the ground. What sort of ground work is made? Is the semi-climitized on pillars? Is the meeting the same as for the existing buildings? 

What material is the semi-climitized? Corrugated plastic? Fabric? Glass? Maybe translucency is enough. 

How is the semi-climitized space constructed? Is there a pattern in the seams of fabric or positioning of beams? Consider connecitng the space to the ridge instead of to a certain level of the facade. 

The funrishing of the space makes many demands on what you put into it, not any chair will fit, make it more free for using in many ways, like Lacaton Vassal, they make this room for doing what you can not do anywhere else, like painting or building a table. Perhaps the more subtile impression of the roof pattern is enough geometrical guidance. 

How do you approach the building? The weight of the composition is shifted and therefor perhaps the entrance should be moved as well. 

Ornament: Could be derived from the existing building, but instead of a nostalgic or pastich like copy it could connect with a new look from the old. 

To Do for MidCrits:

- Continue developing the semi-climitized space and build it 1:50

- Solve more delicate problems in plan (that perhaps has not suceeded in the model)

- Develop a constructive system for the semi-climitized space. 

- Make plan, section and stituation plan

Testing generic furniture/volumes in the semi-climtized space within the flipped dome concept for construction, as seen earlier, here with the volumes attached. 

Model sketches of version where the semi-climitized space are made as large as the farm house and with the climitized ones attached to it. This makes it possible to use a industrial green house framing and creates many rooms and also levels. 

Drawbacks are the difficulty to attach all the needed volumes and still keeping the "reading" focus on the glass/plastic volume.

Test more variations of the semi-climitized space, test to combine water functions (kitchen and bathroom, possibly atelier) and program the volumes more precisely. 

Connect the new volumes to the existing building, Look at the inner yard, how is it relevant? Could it be removed, or re-shaped? What is it purpose? 

Calculate the thermal gains of the semi-climitized space and the varying temperatures in the house. How fast can a chilled room be heated? 

The project is going in the right direction. The direction of the standard house gives a village of volumes which create rooms around them, making it a larger house than what you pay for. That makes sense, both economically and architecturally. The separation also makes it possible to build in steps, which can be cheaper. The volumes creates a sort of clock with its shadows, maybe this could be a quality, to always have a sense of where in the day you are, tell what time of year it is and it will make you use the different spaces at different times of the day.

  Think about the building as the collection these elements:

The columns

The flow of people

The objects (furniture, machinery, etc)

The ground

 Introduce all four elements in the sketches from now on

  What will happen to the building in time? Which elements are temporary/fluid and which elements are eternal/solid?

It is a good idea to have the process on the final boards, so you can easily refer to it in the final presentation.

Do some groundwork, sections, situation etc.

The idea of pillars looking different from different angles is interesting. The same idea can be developed using a different formal language for instance by introducing cut–offs.

Construction: Think about how the pillars carry load. How do you create open spaces and what is the constructional consequence of that

Next step: design the pillars having the program and the construction in mind.

The formal language of the transparent volumes should be different than the sold ones. This would add more drama to the whole project as an assembly.

Try the boxes in a bag concept!

Think of the ornament as a way of achieving an architectural quality. Could it be used as an element to tie the different volumes together for instance?

Reference: Look at the ornamentation of the wooden fence or a timber villa’s roof base, where the ornament is used to break the sharpness of the straight edge.

Focus the urban analysis on the urban impact of the skyscraper on its neighboring buildings rather than the whole city.

Pick a structural system: Concrete and timber or timber only.
