How I entered the void so easily after 1 year of trying
So after 1 year and half of trying to enter I finally did it and I am so mad because it REALLY IS SOOOOO EASY and tbh if in this post you are looking for any sort of validation or info you smart ass already know then please REMEMBER THIS : entering the void is extremely easy. You just have to do it in a way that resonates with you.
Personally for me since I had adhd I couldnât just stay still and affirm for 1 or even a few for 10 mins. Not just because I was lazy but because just repeating âI am in the voidâ for so long gets me tired and makes me think of the void more and you actually donât want to think too deeep about it. I couldnât wake 3 hours prior and then affirm or even have the patience to do the psych k, yes I was extremely lazy back then and unpresistent but one thing that helped me even backed then was THE ALPHA STATE MEDITATION !
You just have to find what works for you, find a method technique whatever you want to do that doesnât seem like a chore. So In a post back then I found on @gorgeouslypink acc talking about doing the alpha sate meditation and I tried it back then and I felt really relaxed and it was a good feeling but like I said back then I was realllly lazy so after a few mins I stopped. Then many months later passed and I was still looking for anything and everything on the void. Then just like two days ago I came across another post which was pretty simple and the technique I used was called the DISTRACTED TECHNIQUE.
All there was to do was the usual you get into a comfortable position and then she said to use the alpha state meditation and used the one gorgeouslypink recommended. So I used it and then what she tell you to do is to just think of anything else just get distracted basically and this WAS SO GOOD 4 ME because back then I had adhd so it made it harder to concentrate on just affirming and so yeah I just thought of random things and then at some point where I was completely distracted I felt my body like lift up đ if that makes sense I just canât clearly describe it. It felt really like a shift and I was like âpanickingâ in a way but I wasnât actually panicking I just kinda became aware what was going and then I got scared a little but I just relaxed shortly after. Also my fan that was making like a loud noises was coming in an out and then I only hear it in one ear and then I didnât hear anything and I just stayed there wondering if I reached the void and i actually was!!! I didnât feel my body it felt like I had no body at all and it was pitch black just like how I imagined the void to be. For a few minutes I just stayed there feeling the most surreal peace I have ever felt. I needed that peace fr đ.
So then I affirmed for my desires all I said was âI have all my desired results from my subliminal playlist.â Then just to be extra sure I just said âI have everything I want.â
At that point I got really excited and then I wiggled my toes to get out because I was too dam happy I needed to see all my shit the moment I wake up and then I slowly started getting out and when I tell you I cried for like a good dam minute when I woke up and saw how DIFFERENT. My room looked. I literally screamed onto my pillow. I was so dam scare and yet excited to see how I looked.

F10/ Hypnagogic state trick
Thomas Edison used this trick where heâd sit with metal balls in his hands over a tray, let himself drift off just enough to drop them, and when the sound woke him up, his brain would be in that dreamy in-between state where his best ideas came through.
The state he tapped into is called the hypnagogic state, that weird space between being awake and asleep where your conscious mind quiets down and your subconscious finally gets a chance to speak.
Itâs the same mental space where you get your best ideas in the shower, when youâre zoning out while driving, or right before falling asleep and your brain starts connecting random things in a way that suddenly makes perfect sense.
DalĂ did it too with a key, and Einstein had his own method, because they all understood that you donât find genius by thinking harder, you find it by letting go and slipping into that flow state. The reason your best ideas donât show up at your desk while youâre stressing is because youâre trying to solve something nonlinear with a mind thatâs stuck in structure, fear, and noise.
They used this state to come up with revolutionary ideas like Edisonâs lightbulb, DalĂâs surrealist visions, and Einsteinâs theory of relativity because itâs where the mind is most open and free-flowing.
Itâs not just for inventors though, because that same state is where you can shift realities, manifest outcomes, and reprogram your subconscious when itâs most suggestible.
You donât need to sit upright like Edison did because what I do is lie down normally and lift one arm at a 90-degree angle while Iâm falling asleep, and when it naturally drops, that little jolt wakes me up just enough to catch myself in that state and focus my intention.
Anyway this took me back to 2023 when I was practicing with the Monroe Institute and using this specific guide I honestly recommend reading it because it explains everything better than I ever could.
in short the Monroe Institute is a research center founded by Robert Monroe that studies human consciousness using sound frequencies to access altered states.
Focus 10 is a mental state where your body is fully asleep but your mind stays awake and alert which makes it ideal for deep subconscious work and out-of-body experiences.
And yes the CIA studied Monroeâs methods but they didnât create them or confirm anything supernatural they just experimented with his existing work.Just because the CIA mentions something doesnât make it truth so always go to the original source.
I personally donât care much about the CIA documents because they only scratched the surface. I recommend reading Robert Monroeâs books or watching his videos directly because his explanations are clearer and more in-depth, and heâs who they based the documents of.
He also collaborated with Thomas Campbell, a physicist who later wrote the trilogy My Big TOE and he now teaches people how to shift into different realities based on a model of consciousness he developed through direct experience! Good luck :)

If you havenât read my original post on DEILD I have linked it down below towards the end of this one. I recommend checking it out for an in depth tutorial on the method, but Iâll give a quick explanation here as well-
To put it simply, it is a technique that is traditionally used to get fast and easy lucid dreams. Upon waking you lie still and keep your eyes closed, tricking your body into thinking that you never woke up and then within seconds the dream reforms except now youâre aware in it! You can also create a new dream or you might enter a false awakening which becomes a lucid dream. This method works SO QUICKLY itâs seriously like a LD method shortcut!
Iâve heard of lucid dreamers talking about the void before but after watching a YouTubers video about a lucid dream he had, I realized he actually used the DEILD technique to go straight to the void in SECONDS, unintentionally! Which is something I hadnât thought about doing before-merging the lucid dream technique WITH đđź THE VOID đđź TECHNIQUES!! đđź So for those of you attempting to enter the void state from a lucid dream, this can be used as a SHORTCUT on top of a SHORTCUT! đđź Yes maâammmm yâall seriously need to come try this one out because when I say SECONDS Iâm talking secondsss-no more waiting 20 minutes for your left brain to turn off, no more long breath work exercises or reality checks or hours of lying still, affirming, no more battling with creating portals-the void can be EFFORTLESS and induced in under a minute.
*PART 2 < The lucid dreamerâs success story> *
Thereâs this lucid dreamer on YouTube called TIGER123 who posts about lucid dreaming techniques and his own lucid dream experiences- he actually has a video tutorial on DEILD as well (which is linked in my OG DEILD post)
So, I was at work looking for something to watch and saw he posted a new video about a lucid dream he had recently. Well, I can tell you wasnât expecting him to literally open the video by talking about how he woke up from a regular dream, realized it was the perfect opportunity to perform DEILD and get lucid, and then. AS HEâS PERFORMING DEILD. He enters the void! Just like that. While he was in the void he visualized the dream scene he wanted to be in and he said he was there within 10 seconds. Aka he instantly manifested entering the exact lucid dream he wanted to be in, from the void state.
This is someone who doesnât believe in shifting or astral projection, wasnât trying to enter the void, thinks the void is just an unformed lucid dream space that can be used to form a new lucid dream, doesnât know you can manifest from that state and yet STILL got in and STILL manifested. Since he viewed the void as a place he can form a new lucid dream thats what he did. He still manifested instantly, he just MANIFESTED going from the VS to being in a lucid dream. This should just go to show you guys how REAL the void state is, because someone who doesnât even know about it and wasnât trying to get in STILL did it. (SO CAN YOU btw)
The void isnât a concept created on tumblr. Lucid dreamers have experienced it for years, meditators experience it, yogis, followers of Neville Goddard and multiple religious practices do too; Itâs just called by different names and defined differently, but all the experiences describe the same thing. So if tumblr success stories arenât trustworthy enough to you, or motivating enough-expand your research and find hundreds of stories similar to this one-lucid dreamers thinking itâs just an unformed dream and yogis thinking itâs just a really relaxing deep meditative state etcâŚ
*PART 3< How To Use DEILD to enter the VS> *
I linked the video at the bottom, he doesnât really talk about the void much or deild because the video is about the actual contents of the dream he had, but the part he does talk about it is right at the beginning, the first 30 seconds or so, if youâre curious in checking it out but this is pretty much what he said about it, written out-
âFirst I was in a space dream and then I woke up and kind of realized I had just woken up from a dream and was able to stay still and kind of reenter into it and fall back asleep and I ended up in the void. You know that like complete blackness where itâs really easy to reform the dream and since I was there I figured I would just try to go to the beach because when Iâm in this void state I can really go anywhere I want. I just reformed the beach and I ended up on the exact beach I was imagining in like 10 seconds.â
So boom. Thatsâs it thats ALL. That simple. So hereâs the exact steps to do if you want to enter the void through DEILD too and be the next success story:
Before bed: affirm âI will remember to stay still upon awakening. I will effortlessly enter the void using DEILDâ or some variation of this (optional)
Visualize yourself waking up, staying still, and entering the void state (optional)
Go to sleep, with the calm certainty that this will work.
Wake up. Keep your eyes closed and lie still
You can keep a blank mind and wait, trusting that your subconscious will induce the void automatically, since you already set the intention the night before
5a. Or right after waking, with your eyes closed you can begin affirming that you are pure consciousnes and imagine yourself already in the void, or imagine yourself sinking gently down into the void state until you are truly there. This method is so effective you should be in the state within a minute or less.
And remember, the void state canât be forced, just like sleep canât be forced. All you can do is create the right conditions for it to occur naturally. Itâs okay if you donât get it right away. Focus on trust, not control. Avoid over analyzing whether itâs working while youâre performing the technique, just allow it to flow and happen. You saw he just literally lied still waiting for the dream to form and then he was in. Itâs that effortless. Give it a go and report back in the comments đŤśđź Happy enteringgg

I saw I saw this in a lucid dreaming video once. When you wake up in the middle of the night, lie on your back and lightly touch your thumb and index finger together like this đđ˝
As you start drifting off, your fingers will naturally separate, which will wake you up a bit then just put them back together. It keeps happening in cycles until you eventually fall asleep and slip into a lucid dream.
The first time I did this, I had a lucid dream. The second time, I thought, what if I affirm that itâll take me straight to the void state instead? So thatâs what I did. Iâve only tried it when I wake up in the middle of the night because of insomnia, but you could definitely try it anytime, Iâm sure itâll work. Let me know how it goes!
Hello lavender, Iâm not new, Iâve been in the community for a couple of years and I know that the void exists, Iâve experienced the void, a lot of times, the symptoms and everything but never consequently, I explain, every time Iâve tried it Iâve had symptoms, my breathing has accelerated, Iâve felt like Iâm fading, even once in a lucid dream I told him to take me to the void and I went, I was literally aware of being in a place that was nothing but I didnât say anything, I donât like to affirm failure thatâs why Iâve never written here but advice would be appreciated

Hereâs a little tip that helped me move past that âsymptoms phaseâ
When you start to feel like youâre floating, the room is spinning, your body tingling, or lights flashing, stop affirming and let go completely. Treat the sensations as proof that youâre already there.
What usually happens is that people notice the sensations, get excited, and start thinking I'm so close, I just have to keep affirming! which instantly brings their awareness back to the body, keeping them stuck. But when you stop affirming and let go, it happens so fast itâll surprise you.
When you notice the symptoms, shift your focus to something gentle and neutral like your heartbeat, breathing, or the darkness behind your eyelids. The more you surrender, the faster everything dissolves.

How I shifted + entered the void recently by controlling my eyes
Putting the step-by-step first so people donât have to hear me yap (which I will anyway, because I have to tell you why this works and why I figured out that letting your eyes go unfocused is the mind awake/body asleep killer. Or justâŚ.the killer in general).
1) Be tired as fuck. Do I recommend staying up until 3 am? Absolutely. Do I recommend sleep-deprivation? Perhaps. Do I recommend wbtb? Yes because thatâs probably the least harmful time to do this. The real key here is you need to be TIRED. Like âI could pass out mid-sentenceâ tired. Or if you have chronic insomnia, just the usual time youâd usually pass out anyway is fine.
2) Close your eyes and notice how they feel. Then notice the difference between that, and when they start to unfocus/ zone out. Because there is a difference. And youâre able to feel it. And when you do realize that they unfocus/zone out, you just caught the murderer. Call the police.
3) Now that you know the difference, your entire mission = keep your eyes from unfocusing. Youâve got two main ways to do this: the first is that, whenever you notice them unfocus, you move your eyes up, down, left, and right to refocus them. It doesnât have to be in that specific order, but the point is to move them around so they refocus and snap back to being alert.
OR. The other way to do this: Itâs basically like fake-blinking with your eyes closed. You just give a few quick light squeezes, then relax back to neutral. Just a fast âblinkâ motion while your eyes are already shut, enough to reset them back to that fresh just-closed feeling. (try blinking with your eyes closed right now, itâs basically that).
4) âBut what if Iâm lying there for hours??â Thatâs why you do this when youâre tired as hell, and not when youâre just casually going to bed. Also, tell your body straight up: âYeah, thatâs right, weâre gonna be here for hours.â Donât commit to anything else, because why would you? Eventually the body will panic like âOh shit, they mean businessâ and fall asleep âwhile keeping you awake. And then congrats, youâre wide open to shift, lucid dream, void, whatever your heart desires.
So wtf do eyes have to do with sleep?
Well, sleeping is literally the final boss, isnât it? half the time you fail because you knock out too quickly. Or we stay up all night like crackheads. Or you just âŚsleep. Like, congrats, you passed out, no shift, no method, no HOPE.
And I thought âhow do we even know weâre about to fall asleep?â Sure, thereâs the brain soup nonsense thoughts, maybe a slideshow of weird half-dream images,, but the real giveaway is usually your eyes. The second your eyes start to unfocus (when your vision gets that zoned-out glaze) youâre already halfway gone. Doesnât even matter if youâve got insomnia, if your eyes do that thing, your brain will follow.
So alright, thatâs the enemy if your shifting/void journey feels like a constant 1v1 between you and sleep, and sleep keeps winning. Why? Because your eyes are tied into your alertness more than you think. When you zone out, your gaze drifts, and your brain takes that as a signal itâs safe to start shutting down. But if you snap your focus back even just a littleâ youâre tossing enough input at your brain to keep it hanging on. Translation: your body can slide toward sleep, while your mind stays just awake enough.
How I applied them
#1 on the test run that actually dumped me into the void (and let me shift out of it) was the little âup, down, left, rightâ trick. I lied down on my side âmy sleep instantly position. Then as soon as my brain started creating random nonsense (the âwhat would making soup in a canoe be like?â thoughts), I took that as a sign that my body was ready to sleep. Every time my eyes started to glaze over, I snapped them back, moving my gaze under my eyelidsâ up, down, left, right â like I was dragging myself back.
So I just kept doing it. Every time my eyelids went heavy and slack, Iâd flick my gaze around, and it worked. I felt that pull (you know that falling sensation) and I was in the void. It freaked me out so bad because I wasnât expecting it, then I panic-shifted to my main DR.
AND THEN the most obvious way to keep them from slacking hit me last night. Like. How has this not been my main method since forever?? I swear Iâm an idiot sometimes.
I realized that to do this, I donât even need to move my eyes around. If the whole problem is them going slack, then the fix is stupidly simple: just blink with your eyes closed. Like a little squint â almost like youâre fake-blinking under your eyelids.
Every time I felt them sliding into that unfocused/zoned-out state, Iâd just give that quick closed-eyelid blink. It immediately reset them back to neutral, like how they feel the instant you first shut your eyes.
And once you get that, thatâs literally all you do: whenever your eyes try to go slack, just give that quick blink, and they snap right back. Your body keeps drifting toward sleep while your eyes (and awareness) stay locked in.
I tried this at around 2-3 am last night (more like, today) and my brain immediately started screaming âFUCK, THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE.â
I slipped into the void so fast I actually snapped back out because I was SO MAD it worked and I hadnât thought of it sooner. Then I fell asleep, and in the dream someone literally told me âyou better wake up and try that method again.â So I did, because idk if itâs bad luck to ignore dream characters (it was Oliver Putnam from OMITB, if anyone cares,, I was morally obligated to follow his advice)
I woke up tired as hell, about to knock out again, but this time instead of staring into the black or moving my eyes around, I just kept them in that neutral âjust closedâ state and, whenever they started to go slack, gave a quick blink under my eyelids.
Within maybe two minutes I got that slipping/falling sensation again. I opened my eyes in the DR I intended to go to practically punching the air because HOW is it that simple??
Live footage of me coming on here to draft this because Iâve shifted to a total of 8 different realities this week which means the past week has felt like 2 and all I want is to lie down but Iâm actively busy as I post this hahaHA:
How I entered the void in less than 5 minutes last night (If someone doesnât shift with this, Iâll scream)
I wouldnât be sharing this and putting myself at risk of sounding like a lunatic who posted one method, and is now posting yet another version of it, if I didnât have a reason for it. Idk, gut feelings are hard to explain (Iâm aware I sound insane right now)
But Iâve never been more excited to share something in my life, sooo that might attest to something.
This will work for everyone in some way. And Iâve never been more certain of anything ever. (Except for the time I pspspspsâd at a black kitty on the sidealk at night, which ended up being a trash bag, and I found out I had horrible eyesightâbut thatâs not the point here).
This isnât anything brand new. Itâs like my method people have been seeing results with, but stripped down to its bones. Simplified to the core, which Iâve learned actually makes it more effective.
(unless youâre someone who prefers something detailed and objective, then yeah, stick to my main method and ignore this)
This doesnât care about your beliefs. Doesnât care about your identity, your self-concept, your doubts, your contradictions. It doesnât matter if youâre into non-duality, law of assumption, law of attraction, or donât even have a belief system. This method does not give a single shit. And I say that with confidence, because when this worked for me last night, I was crying. Genuinely, majorly depressed. Everything I usually cling to, all my beliefs about shifting and consciousness and the nature of realityâI wasnât mulling over any of it. I was flat out over existence itself, and it still worked.
The set-up:
⢠First, understand something: The screen of space youâre looking at right nowâeven if your eyes are closedâis the same screen where your DR, CR, the void, your dreams⌠all of it⌠will appear. Thatâs your canvas. Always.
⢠This works best with WBTB (wake back to bed), so set an alarm for about 3 hours after you fall asleep. You want to wake up just tired enough that going back to sleep is easy, but youâll still have some control. (You can also do this as youâre going to bed, but it was 3 AM for me after I had woken up,,, so do with that info what you want).
⢠Now, get this into your head: Youâre not entering the void or shifting from a place of calm or confidence. Youâre doing it from pure exhaustion. Youâre doing it from âfuck this shit, Iâm doing it anyway.â
You can doubt. You can feel like shit. But the attitude that follows is âfuck it.â Youâre tired of trying, and tired of being on this journey. So youâre just gonna do it. Fuck it.
What to do:
⢠Lie on your back. (I personally like my back, but Iâve done it on my side too, and it still works. Doesnât matter. Donât overthink it. This doesnât matter)
⢠You can move. Just donât care that you moved. After the next step, you wonât even be paying attention to your body anyway, and itâll go numb naturally,, so the idea here is âfuck it, this doesnât matter.â
⢠Now: Notice the black behind your eyes. Just that. The blackness. Donât try to notice your awareness yet. Just focus on the black. Look at it. Really look at it. LOOK. Keep choosing to look at it again and again. Widen your eyes over and over again, and keep refocusing on it. This will keep you alert, but youâre not forcing yourself to stay alert, got it? It happens naturally, because youâre reeeeally looking at the black behind your eyes.
⢠Your bodyâs gonna want to fall asleep. Donât fight it, donât care about it, because the fact that youâre looking at the black behind your eyes will naturally keep you from falling asleep.
⢠You keep your mind locked on that black space, almost like youâre watching a movie screen, but nothingâs playing yet. What happens? Youâll keep wanting to fall asleepâbut widening your eyes and choosing to watch the black will keep waking you up. Youâll be in this liminal place going: âFuck it. Fuck it. Fuck it. Iâm doing this. Fuck it. Donât care.â
(What I mean by âwidening your eyesâ even though theyâre closed is: when your eyes are closed, donât let them go slack like they do when you're falling asleep. Keep them wide and alert, like you're trying to watch something in the dark. You're not tensing them, just holding that sense of openness, like you're staring through your eyelids).
⢠What happens next: Suddenly youâll feel your awareness. Youâre just awareness now. Naturally. You didnât right off the bat try to pay attention to your awareness,, you just realized that you are it. Why? Because when you feel confined to that black space behind your eyelids like a coffin, with nothing else around you, thereâs nowhere else to run to other than your awareness. Your body will be numb, and your surroundings distant, irrelevant. And youâll think: âWait⌠Iâm just my awareness.â
⢠And then your brain might do what it always does: âOh no. What if Iâm overthinking? What if Iâm messing it up?â And you remind yourself: âIâm literally awareness. I can overthink if I want. Iâm awareness goddamnit. Fuck it.â
⢠Youâll start switchingâback and forthâbetween two things (because thereâs nowhere to run to):
1. Looking at the black behind your eyelids
2. Noticing your awareness itself
Keep flipping between the two like youâre flickering the lights on and off in a room, but donât force this. Youâll look at the fact that you simply are, and you'll look at the black,, and youâll think: âdamn?? Iâm just my awareness.â
⢠Then youâll start to sink. Youâll feel the pull as hypnagogia grabs your hand and says âso where are we going, bestie?â From here, you can either:
A) Keep going as you feel yourself sink, and youâll fall straight into the void state effortlessly.
B) As you feel yourself sink, you can choose to lucid dream, astral project, or just plain shift from here. To shift: affirm, assume, observe, do whatever you want. The way I shared that I like to do this is by observing my awareness in my DR, observing the fact that Iâm aware there (just pretend youâre there, no need to try too hard).
The point is: whatever happens next, if it happens very very quickly, donât panic.
Just to note:
If this somehow doesnât work for youâthough I genuinely believe it will work for someoneâjust know the reason I share so many things is because I deeply believe everyone needs different things. The core of shifting stays the same to me:
You are only awareness, and you observe your desired reality until all other options collapse.
But how you get into that is wildly personal. What works for me might not click for you, just like what works for you might not click for me, and thatâs fine.
Thatâs why I keep offering optionsânot to confuse you, not to invalidate anything Iâve said before, but to give you more pathways of realizing how powerful you already are. If one method feels off, try another. My main method is still my go-to: observe my awareness in my DR, exist there, decide Iâm there because where else would I be??âbut I love giving variety because maybe this next one might be the one that opens it all up for you.
Edit: (this just came to mind) donât place a time expectation on any method. This one worked in less than 5 minutes for me, but the next time I try it, it could happen in 10, maybe 20. I donât know. So if you try this, and it doesnât immediately work in the way you expect it to, take a deep breath and keep trying, because eventually something has to happen. Trust me.

How I always induce the void state + what youâre doing wrong.
iâve induced the void state at least 7 times from what i remember, yes i manifested my dream life, you might wonder why iâm on tumblr yapping my brain out about what manifesting is and whatever itâs because im here to try to help some of you, i want you to be successful just like me. so try to understand this post.
the way i successfully induce the void is by just deciding that i do, and since that assumption hardened into fact already it just basically means for me i can always induce it when i want and where i want. you can literally become just like me and all it takes is a simple decision and a flip in thoughts, whoever said it takes some serious repetition to get into the void is wrong imo, but thats okay! because we all have different assumptions and beliefs and thatâs totally normal, the world wonât end because you think it takes months to finally induce a state that youâre always in.
now hereâs what youâre doing wrong, youâre wavering, youâre contradicting yourself, you arenât trusting yourself, youâre panicking, youâre rushing, youâre in âwaitingâ mode, youâre seeing the void state as something it isnât, you think its the key, youâre dependent on it, youâre overthinking it and probably other things but those were just the stuff i could probably assume about you. stop doing all of those things i listed because i promise you inducing the void state is literally the easiest thing you can do. âwell why havenât i induced it yet?â because you keep assuming you cant. âwell i donât assume that i canât i just can never induce itâ well you just said you couldnât what are you talking about? remember whatever you say is true so you saying you arenât inducing the void no matter what is true. please read @salemlunaa âs post about reaffirming failure. because that is what majority of you are doing.
stop falling back into your old cycle the old story is dead it does NOT serve you anymore. make that decision youâre a âvoid state masterâ and literally watch how your reality changes, just be a void state master in imagination because again imagination creates, stay firm to your new story or assumption and donât think against it. you have always been a void state master. you just need to bring your awareness to that fact.

How to not fall asleep when shifting
A list of ways that have helped me before in the past. Mix and match accordingly. Asks responding to:
1. Position Yourself Incorrectly
You know the position that makes you fall asleep the fastest? Yeah donât use it. If curling up on your side knocks you out in five minutes, lie flat on your back like a sleep-paralyzed corpse. If lying on your back knocks you out cold, flip over like youâre a baby and try your stomach. Youâre trying to disconnect from muscle memory. Trick your brain into knowing this is not your regular âfall asleepâ routine.
2. Focus on the black behind your eyelids. I Mean Really Focus.
The void/shifting method I posted is gold for people who slip into sleep too easily. Youâre not imagining anything, not visualizing, not affirming, just becoming intimately aware of your eyelids. Pretend itâs a doorway. Pretend itâs a wall you could fall through. Pretend itâs your s/o staring at you. Treat it like it is the holy grail. And when your focus slips, snap back to it.
3. Chastise yourself out loud.
This works insanely well. Have an internal conversation with yourself like youâre yelling at a toddler or scolding your dog. For example, I do:
âClover, NO. Stay awake. Look at the black. Not today, sleep demon. Clover, stay the hell awake or I swear to godââ
If youâre busy nagging yourself, it keeps you from passively slipping into dreamland. The brain canât run intrusive thoughts and stage a self-directed intervention at the same time. Use that to your advantage.
Alternate version: Channel the fuck-it mentality and start trash-talking your entire journey because you are o.v.e.r it.
âFuck it. Iâm shifting. I donât care. Iâm doing it, fuck it.â
4. Micro-control your eye movement.
Even with your eyes shut, you know when they start drifting off. You feel them go slack, like theyâre ready to roll back into sleep. So keep snapping your attention back by:
Shifting your gaze side to side slowly, like youâre scanning the black.
Widening your "closed" eyes just slightly (youâll know what this means once you try it,, and if you donât, read this).
Again, re-centering your gaze like youâre trying to look straight through your eyelids.
5. Move. Jitter. Adjust. Ignore the âstillness rule.â
So many people panic if they twitch or adjust themselves because they think theyâve broken the "mind awake, body asleep" balance. Spoiler: you haven't. Your body will still fall asleep anyway. You are allowed to:
Shift your legs
Re-adjust your pillow
Scrunch your face and stretch your neck
Scratch an itch or roll onto a new pressure point
Play the kazoo
Your brain doesnât reset the sleep cycle every time you move. The sleep process is smarter than that. Iâve hit hypnagogia while still adjusting my shirt. The body goes when itâs ready. Movement wonât ruin it, but panic might.
6. Music wonât ruin anything. Use it.
Yes, even loud, distracting music. Even music with lyrics. Even music that would have your parents appalled that you listen to it. Sound wonât stop hypnagogia. In fact, familiar music can anchor your awareness. Youâre not falling asleep, youâre just. Drifting deeper while still anchored. You might even use it as a countdown:
âIâm still awake by the chorus, Iâm still awake by verse two, Iâm still awake at the bridgeâŚâ
And if you dissociate a little in the process? PERFECT.
7. âOh but I keep zoning outâ
Hello ADHD shifter. Hi person who tries to meditate bit keeps zoning out. Go back to #1 because that method keeps you from zoning out, since youâre focusing on the black behind your eyelids. Pair it with #3. Trust me. If your pattern is: try to meditate -> zone out -> snap out of it -> roll over and go to sleep, defeatedâthen do this. Pair a visual anchor with dialogue to keep yourself engaged.
8. The alarm trick (AKA weaponizing your own paranoia)
Set alarms every 90 minutes. Not to shift, but to sabotage your sleep in a way that helps you win. Hereâs the psychology: Your brain knows youâll be woken up, so it stays on edge. You might think thatâs badâbut itâs actually perfect. The goal here is to stay just awake enough that you donât plunge straight into unconsciousness. That anticipationâthe ugh Iâm gonna get woken up soon tension? Use it!
Youâre not aiming to nap. Youâre aiming to drift just low enough that your body knocks out and your mind gets sneaky. That place where everything starts slipping sideways.
And if you do fall asleep? Great! The alarm yanks you back. You get another shot. This trick breaks the mental block of âI was just laying there for hours and nothing happened.â Because letâs be realâsometimes what actually happens is this:
You think youâre just laying there, irritated, defeated. And then your thoughts get... floaty. And you start to sink. And your hearing warps. And youâre like wait, what the fuck is happening??
Thatâs hypnagogia. Thatâs the threshold. Sometimes you even do shift or start to AP. The alarm method keeps the cycle running. Try-fall asleepâwake upâtry againâdriftâwake upâdrift deeperâfall through. Eventually, your bodyâs like: âOkay fine, sleep.â But your mind is already plunging into an altered state.
9. âBut I did all of this and still fell asleepâ
THEN SLEEP. SLEEP. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND PURE, GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP (i am crashing out, iâm so sorry).
My point is, you set the intention to shift, right? So now, please trust your awareness, because it knows where itâs leading you. It knows the path you hopped onto. If itâs directing you down the perceived âwrong way,â just go with it, okay?? Do you know how many times my dumbass, when in shifting limbo, tried an awake method, gave up, fell asleep, then woke up there? Several. All that matters is that you intended to shift, the rest is in fateâs hands.
