I lie here, dazed and confused at a seat I am bound to; Handcuffed and defenseless. I look around the room and recognize faces that have come and gone in my life. My childhood friend; Jessica, sitting in a row of twelve next to Chris, my other friend, what are they doing here? He was exactly as I remembered him. Tall and skinny as if time never changed his face, but time did change, I was a testament to that. Lesley my friend back in time and Adam were also sitting in the row of twelve. Jared, my spiritual mentor, whom I abandoned because of a faith I did not understand. Steven, the one person whom I never apologized to, he too was sitting in the row of twelve next to my pen pal, my third-grade teacher. Everyone from my memory was sitting at the row of twelve, looking down upon me as if I were to be judged.
The room started to spin, slowly getting brighter and brighter. I was back in my room and everyone was gone, I was alone. I turned around and looked at the clock. 2:30am, and I'm still awake, but what just happened? Where did I go? I seem to notice the darkness creep from the living room into my room, filling the bedroom with pure black. I’m scared, the light faded out.
This time, I was sitting across from a row of people, my mother sobbing at the back of the row. I don’t understand a word they are saying, asking me all these questions I cannot seem to remember.
Bailiff: “do you solemnly swore to the tell the whole truth, nothing but the truth, so help your soul?”
Wait a second, isn’t that supposed to be “so help me god?”
Bailiff: Is that a yes or a no?
me: Yes, I guess. What exactly am I on trial for? Why is everyone I’ve ever known sitting in this room?
Judge: you are here on trial of your soul.
Judge: Yes. Shall we continue?
As I sit back on the hard-wooden bench and think on how I came to be, fighting for my very soul.
The room gets very bright and I wind up back in the bedroom. Scared and lonely, I try to reach for the phone. Who should I call? Who will help me now? Am I dying? Things begin to get dizzy and I’m back on trial. I feel as if my light just went out and I’m stuck in this reality now.
A man from a distance starts to stand up; he seems familiar as if he too was from my past. He grabs some paper and begins to walk towards me. I just want to close my eyes and tell myself to wake up. WAKE UP!
