going for long walks alone is probably the closest thing we have to a cure for the human condition
"A marriage ending isn't a failure at all. I spent eleven years with her. We were so in love that we couldn't image life apart from each other. We got our own place, adopted a dog, and supported each other through school. I thought if tow people loved each other enough the rest would fall into place, except... love isn't everything.
And I didn't want to believe that, but we were sitting in counseling one day, talking about our future and I realized we were describing two completely different lives. Where we'd live, what kind of life we wanted, what made us happy. And it hit me that- I love this woman and this woman loved me. And after eleven years of loss, grief, career changes, we were so deeply in love... but we weren't aligned. And I kept thinking 'We just need to try harder. We can find some compromise to make this work,' because that's what you're supposed to do when you love someone, right?
But the reality was, we had just become different people. Her trade school took her in one direction, my graduate degree in another and trying to force us back into who we were five years ago wasn't coming from a place of love. It was coming from a place of fear. Fear that, if this ended, it meant we wasted eleven years. But sitting there across from her, I realized: That's not how love works.
Those eleven years happened. They were real. The dog, our home, showing up for each other through grad school and trade school. I wouldn't change a single thing because loving someone doesn't mean you're meant to stay with them forever. And letting go doesn't erase what you had. We measure marriage by whether it lasts forever or not, but what if we measured it by whether it mattered?
What if we measured it by the love we gave, the life we built, and the people we became? Because love's job isn't to last forever, it's to help you become fully completely yourself, and sometimes the most loving thing you can do is give each other permission to be yourselves, separately. But the dog doesn't know were' divorced. He just gets two Christmases now."
Pulled this from this guy Preston Rakovsky's Instagram (@prestonrack) because it is a beautiful perspective on love, marriage, and relationships in general.

people who tell you to stop reading the news to "regulate your nervous system" do not have your best interests at heart. if following current events makes you spiral you probably need a better analytical frame, not less information
and the analytical frame you need is probably dialectical materialism
i'm totally crazy, i freak out all the time, but you know what helps me most? learning. reading. studying. discussing. sometimes you do need a nap, but sometimes you need a conversation with someone more knowledgeable/experienced, or a day at the (physical or digital) library. and really i think everyone has a different baseline emotional register that's best for them and their circumstances, but i recommend aiming to feel solid and anchored, not necessarily "calm." of course we won't feel "calm" after reading about genocide. but if we approach what we're reading correctly, it can strengthen our resolve; feed our fighting spirit; show us paths to liberation. a lot of people in my life have diagnosed me with "revolutionary optimism" and wonder how i maintain that mindset but i'm not an optimist by nature, it all comes from studying
gender essentialism is soooo funny bc it's like "this is what women are like" and you're like "I've met women and many of them, if not the majority, have not been like that" and it's like "well women SHOULD be like that" and you're like "why should women be like that" and its like "because that's what women are like"
when fiona apple asked “how can i ask anyone to love me when all i do is beg to be left alone”. well i have not found an answer but if anyone else has lmk
shame.
i think my biggest resentment towards my mother is that she taught me to be ashamed. all i know is shame. shame, shame, shame. ashamed to exist, to be seen, perceived, looked at, in any way. to exist. I'm so ashamed of everything. so embarrassed. even in solitude. this is something i'll always carry with me i think. this deep embarrassment. this fear of embarrassment. it's at my very core. i think all if my repression traces back to this shame. maybe it's not entirely because of the shame she taught me. but it is where it took root. where it grew, with every single interaction, with every word, with every look into the mirror, with every time the clothes suffocated me both literally and figuratively, with evertime I perceived myself. i am so *ashamed* all the time. no matter how much i grow and get better at being a "person" it will always be there.

i hate having a body. sometimes. just, the physicality of it. what can we not just.. exist? from time to time. leave this physical vessel and all it's complexity. just *be*

loving your mom is like
I love you and I hope I never lose you, please stop talking to me I can't handle it anymore, I don't know how to go on without your support, why won't you just listen to me for once?, oh god I miss you and how do people do it without their moms?, please l just want you to be proud of me, I want to stay at home and pretend I'm still five, you're giving me bone nausea every time you get silently pissed off I need to leave right NOW, I can't imagine when I won't need you in my life, just let me relax for two seconds, please mom, hold my hand and acknowledge my pain without feeling like it's your fault even if some of it is.

...My mother loves me and there is nothing more to say. I love my mother and there is nothing more to say. I pray and pray that I don't become her someday, and there is nothing more to say.

The tomb and the rose
Victor Hugo
Translated by Barbara Miller
The tomb says to the rose:
From the tears with which the dawn sprinkles you
What do you make, flower of love?
The rose says to the tomb:
What do you do with that which falls
In your ever-open abyss?
The rose says: somber tomb,
From these tears I make in the shadow
A perfume of amber and of honey.
The tomb says: plaintive flower,
Of each soul that arrives in me
I make an angel of heaven.
