In terms of The Aluminium conversation however, lets be nice to eachother first of all, theres no need for the passive aggressive nonsense, i cannot stress enough we'retalking about etymology, its not that deep. THAT BIENG SAID OP, you asked for research, I give you research.
Alright so at no point did I say something was outright false, for starters, I simply said there are 2 correct spellings of a word, which is still True. The Oxford Dictionary holds the spelling "Aluminium", which is the spelling I, as well as most people outside the US grew up learning, evidenced by This Article from Merriam Webster, which I believe is the preffered Dictionary within the USA.
Additionally; the Original was neither of the modernised versions we use today, It was the Latin "Alumen/Alumin", which does infact leave room both modern versions.
And finally; the name "Aluminium" was used first. To summarise this article on Wikipedia , which i encourage you read yourselves; the Original name for the element was proposed by [British Chemist] Humphry Davy to be "Alumium" in 1808, this was then criticised by northern European chemical journalists, who would prefer the element be named for the Oxide; "Alumina" which you isolate the element from, one of the more notable journals was: Essai sur la Nomenclature chimique (July 1811) by the [French-Swedish] chemist Jöns Jacob Berzelius, in which the name "Aluminium" was first proposed.
So distinctively; not an Englishman, not a journalist, DEFINITELY not a dumbass, and also not a critique of the name "Aluminum" which as per the same article; was not used until a year later in 1812, by Davy Humphry, the British Chemist who first discovered the element.
As for today, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, or (IUPAC) adopted the Spelling "Aluminium" as the official, standardised International name for the element, recognising "Aluminum" only as an acceptable regional Variant.
And in 2005 the IUPAC acknowledges BOTH modernised spellings, with a preference for "Aluminium" in official publications and chemical journalistic articles.
So in other words, research shows I was actually correct the whole time, both spellings are accepted in official scientific journals, neither is considered "incorrect" as of modern science, and I now know more about the etymology of "Aluminium" than I ever cared to.
