Replaying KOTOR 2 again and man this era of moral choice RPGs really didn't age well. There's been plenty of discussion over the years about how even in a setting as black and white as Star Wars, only having the choice between selfless saint and complete bastard really makes it hard to roleplay as an actual person. But I think a more fundamental reason they fail is that they don't really affect gameplay. The games will make a big deal about how choosing the good option is some sort of sacrifice, but the realities of game balance mean that the actual rewards and challenges end up being pretty much the same.
And it's especially jarring in this case because that balance makes no sense with the story they're trying to tell. The diegetic reason why killing enemies and finishing quests rewards you with XP is because (spoilers) you're a walking eldritch horror that feeds on death and chaos. But being niceys and finishing quests in a way that restores order and heals the Force gets you just as much XP as being a huge, self-centered asshole. Kreia keeps calling you out for "weakening yourself" by helping others, while all the time you're stronger than ever. I don't think the game would be better as a game if the light side path was some insane challenge run where you never level up, but it would definitely be a better story.
Some wildflowers I spotted on a walk yesterday. Fire Pink, Heart-leaf Skullcap, American Germander, Deptford Pink, and Yarrow.
Just throwing this out there, but a British man who was a journalist and professional writer throughout the entirety of Thatcher's term might actually have some valid observations about the differences, or lack thereof, between a terrorist and a freedom fighter.
It's been years since I played New Vegas Bounties and it still pisses me off how you go to have this final confrontation with Marko and he stands there and demands you let him "say his piece" as if he hadn't spent every single second of acreen time up to that point constantly yapping about his bullshit straw nihilist philosophy.

One problem I consistently have with any sort of game that has character building or progression is that as soon as I hit my peak I pretty much instantly lose interest in that character no matter how much of the actual game is left. It's worst with RPGs but I can run into it with a lot of other types of games too. For instance in my current run of The Long Dark I just cleared the plane crash. I've got top tier clothing in every slot, at least one of every tool, and food for literal weeks. I could do anything I want but because there's nothing left to really work towards I don't have any interest in doing it. First time through I still had exploration to drive me, but I've already seen everything once and it doesn't interest me. Until and unless I buy the expansion or I guess some of the challenges I haven't tried I think I might be done.
Trip to and through Ash Canyon was pretty unremarkable. Rope to Homesteader's was there already so I took the high road around to the mine. Kinda amazing how generous the region is with matches and flares but I'm not really complaining. Got back to Mountaineer's Hut and the moose hide is still only 66%. Decided to work on clearing out the scattered containers while I wait on the rest. I swear the crates on the ridge overlooking Crystal Lake are cursed because every time I go after them something goes wrong. This time a blizzard rolled in while I was sawing and on the way back I walked right into 5 timberwolves. Somehow made it back to base without getting lost, but that was really annoying.
Not sure what order I want to do things at this point. My next main goals are to get to the Ash Canyon mine and the summit of Timberwolf Mountain to get the loot there. But I'm not sure if I should head out immediately and let the moosehide cure while I'm gone, or wait for the satchel (plus deer pants and rabbit hat I'm also waiting on) and head out fully prepared. On the one hand, I want to get to the summit soon to keep the loot from degrading. On the other, I want to go full loot goblin mode when I get there. Or do I compromise and drag the hide with me to Mountaineer's, leave it there and hope it's done by the time I'm back from Ash Canyon? Decisions, decisions...
Rifle in trappers and moose right outside camp office. Eatin' good tonight.
I think I'm going to have to turn to custom difficulty to get the balance that's right for me. I'm trying Stalker right now and the scarce resources and punishing cold are tickling my brain in a good way, but the wolves are... Excessive.

"Oh it's just one raspberry. I should be fine without washing it first"
You'll never guess what happened next, folks.
I know it's not the *worst* starting location, but it does suck to have the game start you on the mostly empty side of the Forlorn Muskeg, about 50 feet from a wolf, and immediately have the wind pick up to gale force.
KICK THE CAN!
Letβs play the biggest game of kick the can on the internet.

Looking up how Hunted (pt 1) works after the fact and it seems I both misunderstood a core mechanic and got incredibly lucky. I thought it was going to be an immortal snail situation where the bear would follow me at a steady pace so I had to keep moving to avoid getting cornered. But no, it's supposed to constantly jumpscare you whenever you're outside, and through sheer happenstance the ENTIRE time I was hoofing it through a blizzard in Pleasant Valley it just kept spawning in out of sight and never catching up. I beat the challenge in less than 48 hours first try because I didn't understand it.
So, fun fact: emergency stims let you sprint as fast as the Old Bear can run, and lasts almost long enough to get you from the Train Unloading Area to the Camp Office.
