oh but how absolutely monumental it still is to have all these big and mainstream pieces of queer television right now. remember how excited you got when there was one character who said he was bi or gay only then to be killed or written off or treated horribly by both writers and the public. remember how hard it was to find queer shows and movie that didnāt make you hate yourself or so angry or scared. remember how seen you felt about that one queer kiss or that one coming out or within one particular character! yes, devastating sad queer pieces are important. fucked up queer stories need to be told. queer period pieces and dramas with unhappy endings too. but queer happiness, queer young and old love, queer cringe, queer joy- we deserve that too.
"Red white and royal blue is too cringy" "heartstopper is too unrealistic" yeah maybe but so is every single other rom com under the sun. Why does queer media always need to be realistic and profound while straight stories get more freedom to be silly and fantastical?
enough reclaiming slurs, I think in 2023 we should reclaim nascar. they banned the confederate flag on all properties & their stance on lgbtq+ isnāt just performative bc in 2013 they fined a driver 10k for using a homophobic slur, condemned indiana in a statement for an anti lgbt law, and partnered w carolinaās lgbt+ chamber of conference in 2022. nascar was founded by anti-cop moonshiners/bootleggers who drove suped-up fords to out-run the police. #yaaascar
HELP
To this day, my favorite argument I ever had was with my Nascar-loving family about how a thin blue line flag on a Nascar is antithetical to the core tenets of Nascar. There is no organization more rooted in ACAB than Nascar. Literally, the only reason it exists was that a bunch of moonshining families had to build cars that could outrun the cops while on supply runs during the Prohibition Era. The goal was to make the car look like a regular vehicle so they could pick up supplies or drop off illegal alcohol without arousing suspicion. But if the cops were on you all you had to do was put the pedal to the metal and that little truck could outrun them with no problems. And of course, families would be in competition over who made the best alcohol, and whose car was fastest. So, they would have races on the weekends. When prohibition was lifted, the races continued. And that is why we have Nascar. It really frustrates me how people look at American car culture and scoff at it. Formula One racing is more exciting and more dynamic to watch, but the history of it is not as interesting: a bunch of rich assholes who made specialized cars for racing. And to this day, it is still a rich man's sport. Whereas Nascar was about a bunch of so-called hicks in the backwoods who used some basic hand tools and trial and error to make a junker into a racecar.

can we take a moment to just think about how incredibly scary magical healing is in-context?
You get your insides ripped open but your friend waves his hands and your flesh just pulls back together, agony and evisceration pulling back to aĀ ākinda hurtsā level of pain and youāre physically whole, with the 100% expectation that youāll get back up and keep fighting whatever it was that struck you down the first time.
You break your arm after falling somewhere and after youāre healed instead of looking forĀ āanother way aroundā everybody just looks at you and goesĀ āokay try againā.
Youāve been fighting for hours, youāre hungry, thirsty, bleeding, crying from exhaustion, and a hand-wave happens and only two of those things go away. youāre still hungry, youāre still weak from thirst, but the handwave means you haveĀ āno excuseā to stop.
You act out aggressively maybe punch a wall or gnash your teeth or hit your head on something and itās hand-waved because itāsĀ āsuch a small injury you probably canāt even feel it anymoreā but the point was that you felt it at all?
Your pain literally means nothing because as long as youāre not bleeding youāre not injured, right? Here drink this potion and who cares about the emotional exhaustion of that butchered village, why are you so reserved in camp donāt you think itās fun retelling that time you fell through a burning building and with a hand-wave you got back up again and ran out with those two kids and their dog?Ā
Older warriors who get a shiver around magic-users not because of the wholeĀ āfireballā thing but theĀ āI donāt know what a normal pain tolerance is anymoreā effect of too much healing. Permanent paralysis and loss of sensation in limbs is pretty much a given in the later years of any fighterās life. Did I have a stroke or did the mage just heal too hard and now this side of my face doesnāt work? No iām not dead from the dragonās claws but I canāt even bend my torso anymore because of how the scar tissue grew out of me like a vine.
Magical healing is great and keeps casualties down.
But man.
That stuff is scary.
shit just got creepy
Or maybe magical healing doesnāt leave scars or damage. It is magical, after all.
So after years of fighting, your skin is still perfect. Unmarred. In fact, youāre actually in betterĀ shape than regular people who donāt get magical healing when they fall out of trees or walk into doors or cut themselves while cooking dinner. Youāre in such good shape that itās unnatural.
And the reallyĀ good healing magic takes away more than just the obvious injuries. You first start noticing it after about ten years when you go home and haha, you look the same age as your younger sibling, thatās funny.
Not so funny ten years later when they look older. Or forty years later, when you bury them still looking like you did at twenty. When do you retire from this gig anyway? How much damage is too much damage?
How many times do you glimpse the afterlife, or worse, how many times donātĀ you? What do you live through, get used to, show no outward sign of except a perfectly healthy body, too perfect for any person living a real life.
How many times are you sitting in a tavern with your friends and you hear the whispers, because the people around you know.Ā How can they not know? Your weapons shine with enchantments and your armour is better than the best money can buy and there is not a damn scar on you. You hardly seem human to them.
How long before you hardly seem human to yourself?
And you find yourself struggling to remember the places where the scars shouldĀ have been, phantom pains that wake you screaming, touching all the old injuries and finding nothing there. Itās all in your head. Was it ever anywhere else?
How long before youāre fighting a lich or a vampire or some other undead monster and you wonderā¦
ā¦what makes me so different?
The original pride flag and the sewing machine it was sewn on
#oh the irony
Inclusive language is for everyone!!
Their boyfriend is their partner why is this hard to understand
Also, āpartnerā is just a good word? It implies an equal relationship where both of your work together in pursuit of something, whether that be life goals or just having fun together.
Itās a good word. People should use it more.

On this, the anniversary of the lunar landing, let us also celebrate the greatest post-mission achievement by a crewman.
I refer, of course, to the time Buzz Aldrin (age 72 at the time) cold-cocked a moon landing conspiracy theorist straight in his smug face after being accused of being a coward, liar, and thief.
Yes, someone was indeed dumb enough to tell a man so unafraid of death that he was willing to go into the void on a fragile explosive rocket, a coward.
Said dumbass was filming this confrontation as some sort of proof of moon fraud, but has instead captured this glorious moment of near-cosmic justice for us to loop for all time.
Aldrin was not charged with any crime. He should have been given another medal for public service.
Itās solar and wind and tidal and geothermal and hydropower.
Itās plant-based diets and regenerative livestock farming and insect protein and lab-grown meat.
Itās electric cars and reliable public transit and decreasing how far and how often we travel.
Itās growing your own vegetables and community gardens and vertical farms and supporting local producers.
Itās rewilding the countryside and greening cities.
Itās getting people active and improving disabled access.
Itās making your own clothes and buying or swapping sustainable stuff with your neighbours.
Itās the right to repair and reducing consumption in the first place.
Itās greater land rights for the commons and indigenous peoples and creating protected areas.
Itās radical, drastic change and community consensus.
Itās labour rights and less work.
Itās science and arts.
Itās theoretical academic thought and concrete practical action.
Itās signing petitions and campaigning and protesting and civil disobedience.
Itās sailboats and zeppelins.
Itās the speculative and the possible.
Itās raising living standards and curbing consumerism.
Itās global and local.
Itās me and you.
Climate solutions look different for everyone, and we all have something to offer.
