MICKEY 17 (2025) Grade: C

Couldn’t get into it. There aren’t many likable characters, and a few are outright annoying, which makes it hard to stay invested.

The pacing drags for long stretches, and the story just kind of muddles around without direction. It never really finds its rhythm.

THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME (2025) Grade: B-

Dry humor at its best. Wes Anderson’s signature style is on full display, from the framing, the symmetry, the use of color, it all looks fantastic.

There are definitely laughs, but it still feels like something’s missing. It never quite hits the level you expect, even though all the pieces are there.

That said, fans of Anderson’s style will likely still enjoy it.

TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARA (1970) Grade: C+

The two leads have great chemistry, which really carries the film. The plot is simple, more of a western quest comedy, and it leans into that without overcomplicating things.

The climax moves quickly, maybe a bit too quickly, though that might be nitpicking. The score and shot composition are strong, giving it a nice stylistic edge.

SINNERS (2025) Grade: B+

Original, entertaining, and the kind of movie that gets better the more you think about it. The character development is spot-on, with arcs that feel natural and pay off in a satisfying way.

Nothing feels forced and everything unfolds with intention. The pacing is excellent, making it fly by, and the clever ending ties it all together perfectly.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE THE FINAL RECKONING (2025) Grade: B-

The first half is sluggish and takes its time finding momentum. But once it hits the second half, the action kicks in with some genuinely strong sequences that help save it.

A stronger antagonist would’ve gone a long way, the conflict never feels as intense as it should.

CRIME 101 (2026) Grade: C+

Disappointing overall. The opening sequence might be the best part, it hooks you early and sets expectations the rest of the film can’t meet.

The climax isn’t nearly as exciting as it should be, and the main character is too mysterious for their own good. There’s not much to connect with, and none of the characters are especially likable.

THE RUNNING MAN (2025) Grade: C

I’m just not a Glen Powell fan. He doesn’t quite have the charm to carry a film as a leading man. There are moments where he leans into a darker, funnier edge, but for the most part his performance feels flat.

What’s more surprising is that this comes from Edgar Wright. I usually enjoy his work, but this one doesn’t have the cleverness or energy you expect from him.

HOW TO BLOW UP A PIPELINE (2022) Grade: D

Hated the editing. It makes some baffling choices, like doing major character exposition near the end, when you’re supposed to already be invested. By that point, it’s too late to care.

Because of that, the characters feel shallow, and the emotional beats don’t land. The ending doesn’t help either, it’s a dud, lacking any real payoff.

THE ORDER (2024) Grade: C+

Great acting from the leads, with Nicholas Hoult continuing to prove how reliable he is. He brings real presence and depth to the role.

The film, however, loses steam by the time it reaches the climax, never quite delivering the payoff it builds toward. The supporting characters don’t help, they felt weak and underdeveloped. It was based off a true story, maybe that's why.

On the plus side, the DP work is strong, giving the film a polished visual edge.

WEREWOLVES WITHIN (2021) Grade: C

Silly, but it feels like it could’ve been a much smarter comedy. The ideas are there, but the execution never quite rises to the level it’s aiming for.

The ending drags and doesn’t land as cleverly as you hope. It just sort of lingers without a strong payoff.

I like Sam Richardson, but he feels a bit overmatched as the lead here. He does what he can, but the material doesn’t support him enough.

THE ASSESSMENT (2024) Grade: C+

Interesting premise with strong acting across the board. The film shows flashes of something really compelling, especially in a few standout sequences.

But the second act gets muddy. It doesn’t quite align with where the story ultimately goes, and the tone starts to feel uneven. One scene will hit, then the next drops off, making the overall experience inconsistent.

SPRINGSTEEN: DELIVER ME FROM NOWHERE (2025) Grade: C+

A mixed bag. The production is solid and the acting is good, but the story never really grabs you or hits on an emotional level.

It touches on the “struggling artist” theme, but never dives deep enough to make it feel meaningful. The subplot involving his father has potential, but it’s handled too lightly, it comes and goes without ever fully committing.

THE SON (2022) Grade: C+

The story goes exactly where you expect it to with no surprises, no real edge.

Zen McGrath doesn’t quite work in the role, and the casting there really hurts the film. It’s a noticeable weak point.

What keeps it afloat is Hugh Jackman. He brings enough presence to elevate it from feeling like a straight-to-TV movie to something at least watchable.

SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE (2024) Grade: B-

A quiet character study centered on a working-class man, told with patience and restraint. It’s a slow film, but one that rewards attention to detail.

More than anything, it feels like a reflection on society. It's subtle, observational, and grounded. The tension stays high throughout, even without any big action sequences.

NOT OKAY (2022) Grade: C-

I expected more with Zoey Deutch and Dylan O'Brien, two very capable leads. But the script is thin and, at times, downright boring.

It never commits enough to either tone, not funny enough to work as a comedy, not dramatic enough to land emotionally. It just kind of sits in the middle without much impact.

SOVEREIGN (2025) Grade: C-

It’s missing stronger supporting characters, which makes the story feel thinner than it should. Being based on a true story also works against it a bit, the audience can see most of what’s coming.

The climax doesn’t fully save it either. It builds toward something bigger but never quite delivers the payoff.

RENTAL FAMILY (2025) Grade: B-

A creative story that rewards patience. It’s a bit of a slow burn at the start, but it really comes together in the third act.

There are some strong plot twists, and the way the character storylines wrap up feels earned and satisfying. Everything clicks when it matters most.
