"I used to play basketball and I was pretty competitive, but I was never a bad loser. I never got angry. For me it was always about doing my best and devoting myself to a challenge. Sometimes that will cut it, other times it won't. But I'm someone who remains faithful to my dreams. That's how I looked at acting, even though I knew it would be tough going at first. I didn't think about the money, I've always lived simply. I just need my books and I can get by."Â
Happy 49th birthday Benicio del Toro! (19th February, 1967)

What youâre doing here is youâre giving us the opportunity to shake the tree and create chaos. In the meantime, just sponge everything up you see.

Happy birthday to the love of my life, Benicio del Toro!!! đđĽł

The signing scene would never be as terrifying as it is without all the shadows on his face. Right now we can clearly see Alejandro's emotions and know how things are about to turn out. We can see that he cares. That he wants what's better for that little crying girl sitting next to him. She doesn't belong here. She doesn't deserve to die because of some piece of paper. So he convinces her to make the right choice.
I recently finished making all these eeveelution designs for PokĂŠmon types that didn't have one yet!

i took this pic in 1995. that day we were planning to drive to the coast to spend the day at the beach but instead our shitty used car broke down and it started raining so we had to hitchhike back home. we were picked up by a truck driver from miami named antonio and we listened to molotov during the whole ride. we got to our apartment at night and invited the driver up to have a beer. we ended up getting very high and ran to the 7-eleven at 2am to get munchies food and we accidentally purchased these ugly sunglasses because we thought they looked cool. hence the pic.

âHeâs no assassin. He just wanted to know, what you know. Theyâre after us, not you.â
I love how he doesnât really look her in the eyes here.
Why do you think he does that?
Oh man, you have no idea how often I think about all these small things right now. :] I mean he does look at her about a second later, but I keep thinking back to that part in Sheridanâs script where Alejandro says in exactly that situation (you know, the extremely chatty Alejandro of the initial script): âYou remind me of my wife. I find it very difficult to look at you.â When I write a character, I always try to blend all the information I get (scripts, movie, interviews) to get a background that is as complete as possible, and then run free with it. So that scene in the movie when he says âYou remind me of someone very special to meâ⌠All the information I found on this scene and Alejandroâs character in general is like this mosaic to me. Does she remind him of his wife? His daughter (when he tells Kate that at the end)? Or does he mean himself? I believe he means his wife or daughter or both because he wouldnât refer to himself as someone special. But to me, itâs still implied that he also sees his younger self in Kate, when he was young and so very very idealistic. TL;DR I think he canât/doesnât want to look at all those things reflected at him. Her purity and naivetĂŠ (to a certain extent), her optimism and idealism. All the things that remind him of his daughter and wife and of that young man who thought he could fight evil with law and ballpoint pens. (Sorry for that long ass answer. I could talk about him for hours.)
So itâs like her canât look at her because it forces him to realize how much heâs changed since his younger days, and makes him wonder what his wife and daughter would think of him now, with all this blood on his hands (blood for them, but blood none-the-less)?
Like he canât really live with the person heâs become?
And less to do with âyou remind me of my wife and Iâm attracted to youâ or âyou remind me of my daughter and it confuses me because Iâm attracted to youâ??
Also, I know Beni is famous for cutting chunks of dialogue from his characters but I wonder if he hand any part of changing âyou remind me of my wifeâ to âyou remind me of someone specialâ and if so, why đ¤đ¤đ¤
(Look I am relieved to know someone else out there is over thinking every detail of this stupid movie. I will gladly talk about every second of this film with you.)
Iâm only guessing here. :D Thatâs why I like to talk about âmyâ Alejandro. And for my Alejandro, itâs really ALL OF THOSE: You put that perfectly âyou remind me of my wife and Iâm attracted to youâ and âyou remind me of my daughter and it confuses me because Iâm attracted to youâ (and I actually donât really know how to be attracted to someone anymore). But also âyou remind me of my wife and daughter because theyâve been just as innocent and pure as you are and I will drag you into this like I dragged them into these horrible thingsâ. And âyou remind me of myself and I would love to protect that part of you, keep it pure, but I think this will break you and if you step in my way, I will end you like they ended meâ. Alejandroâs life status on facebook: Itâs complicated. My Alejandro doesnât bother that much about what his wife and daughter would say, if they saw what he has become. They are dead. I donât even think he bothers about all the blood on his hands. Alarconâs children were only a means to an end. And at this point, Alejandro doesnât care about the means anymore. I believe heâs perfectly okay with the person he has become. I like to think about him as seeing himself as a tool, a vessel, to achieve that ultimate goal: bringing terror and death to those who bring terror and death to innocent people. I like that Sheridan started both scripts for Sicario and Soldado with these VOs (spoken by Alejandro in Sicario and by Isabel in Soldado): âThey must be forced to look at all they have destroyed. By having the same done to them. Or they will forget⌠Forget they are human. Believe they are as different as they feel⌠Then they are the lion, and everything we loved and lost, simply itâs meal.â I think thatâs his ultimate objective right there. Not just ending those who murdered his wife and child, but bringing pain and despair to every single one of them. And he actually is the means to this end here himself. (Itâs also why I think he wouldnât want to be killed in a Iâm-reckless-here-because-I-want-to-die-anyway-so-I-can-see-my-family-again way. He didnât turn his full front to Kate because he wanted her to end his grief. He did that because he knew she wouldnât do it anyway and this was just his way of saying âI told you so. Not a wolf. Get out of here as long as you still can.â) I really think he doesnât want to look at Kate and see what he has brought upon his family. He tries to protect her every way he can, by giving advice, showing concern (âHowâs the neck?â), but also by making her look at it, really look, so maybe she will not end up getting killed by him or them. Go away. You still havenât lost everything. Donât become me. Because if you do, youâll maybe discover you are not strong enough to walk that way to the end. (Itâs 3 AM here, oh godâŚ)
Fandom discussing complexity of a character in depth, meanwhile me:
Alejandro looks like an emo hedgehog.
A valid opinion. :D
Excuse me while I butt in here. I can definitley agree with the theory of it being about his wife or daughter but I really think it comes down to the naive prosecutor that he once was. How he thought he knew right from wrong - good vs evil and somewhere in the shitty road that heâs been down that it was him, he lost himself to this world. He once could have been a starry eyed lawyer who thought he could rid the world of all the bad people and now maybe in his mind heâs become one of them. Kate was by the book and he used to be as well but now his innocence is lost along with his family.
