Hucklerobby is in a secret relationship and it's late like 2 am and they are sleeping at Robby's but there's some big accident emergency so Abbot calls Robby for help except the one who answers is a very sleepy Dennis who thinks it's his phone.
"Yes?" A sleepy voice answers.
Abbot furrows his brows. Did he get the wrong number?
"Who's this?"
"Dennis." The voice slurs, "You called me so you should know," The voice said frustrated.
Which was totally normal for someone being woken up in the middle of the night. Abbot checked the caller ID just to be sure. Yep, it was Robby's phone number.
"No, I called Robby."
"Ah."
"Is he around? It's kind of an emergency."
"Somebody's dying?"
"Something like that."
"Who's this again?"
"It's Abbot."
"Like Dr. Abbot?"
"Yes, the very one."
"How did you get my number, Dr Abbot?"
He pinched the bridge of his nose and tried very hard not to let out a sigh of desperation or worse scream at the guy.
"I didn't. Can I speak to Robby now please?"
"Alright, alright. Don't get your panties in a twist. Just a sec."
Abbot hears shuffling on the other end of the line and some whispers. "Michael! Michael, wake up, it's for you."
"Huh? What? For me?"
"Abbot's on the phone. It seems important."
More shuffling.
"What time is it?"
"I don't know." The voice whispers back, "You don't need your glasses to answer the god damn phone, just take it."
"It was to check the time." The voice replied gruffy.
If Abbot wasn't in a hurry he would have found this "old married couple" convo hilarious. He takes note to tease robby later about it.
"Hello?" Abbot asks when nobody seems to be taking the phone to talk to him.
Finally Robby's voice comes through "Abbot?"
Finally.
"Heya brother!"
"Why the fuck are you calling Whitaker in the middle of the night?"
Whitaker? As in the intern?
Oh Robby you bastard.
Good to know, though.
"Why is your intern in your bed in the middle of night?"
"Mmh. I plead the fifth."
"Yeah right. And for the record I didn't call him. I called you."
Robby took the phone away from his ear to squint at the bright screen.
"Ah, my bad, you're right."
"Anyway, I know it's your day off but Shen just went home sick, I need you to come in to replace him as an attending, it's been a busy night and I need a second pair of hands to help."
Robby gruffs, "Fine. I'm on my way. You owe me."
"Yah and you owe me an explanation on why you're fucking your intern."
Robby groans.
"Can we not do this now?"
"Sure, we can do it when you get here."
"You know what, I think I'll stay here, actually. I'll let you deal with that mess by yourself and go back to sleep. Good night. "
"Alright, Alright," Abbot conceded, "Don’t hang up. I'm very sorry for tearing you away from your boy toy so early in the morning," he teases, "but you'll be doing me a solid by coming in today."
"I'll be there in 10."
Robby hangs up and puts the phone down with a sigh.
"I guess the cat's out of the bag, huh."
Robby rubs a hand through his face, trying to keep the exhaustion away. "You can say that." He starts to pull out from under the covers.
"So you leaving me?" Dennis pouted.
"Afraid so. Jack needs me."
Dennis rolls over to get closer to where Robby already is, on the edge of the bed, and whines, "What about my needs? You promised me breakfast in bed."
Robby laughs at his boyfriend theatrics and kisses him on the lips, "Rain check? I'll make it up to you tonight."
Dennis wraps his arms around Robby's waist preventing him for escaping the bed, "No, stay."
"Dennis, now, don't be a brat."
"Not fair. You said you were all mine today."
"I promise I'll be quick and come back home as soon as I can."
"Don't lie to me. I work there too. One hour inside the ED represents 3 hours in the outside world. I'm lucky if I see you tomorrow."
"Don't be dramatic." He kisses Dennis forehead and left the bed to go get ready.
Robby dresses in less than 5 minutes, years of being on call, and slithers back into the bedroom to say goodbye. Dennis is there waiting, upper body resting on his elbows, head tilted up for a kiss.
"Be a good boy and don't do anything stupid while I'm gone."
"How could I, you're taking all the stupid with you." Dennis smirks before bringing Robby closer for a long and deep kiss, a promise for what's to come tonight and reluctantly let him go.
