Victory over ADHD - I needed to change the battery in the bathroom scale. Forgot about it all day. Saw the scale tonight and thought, “I better do that now.” The batteries were in the vanity drawer. The screwdriver was in the tool set in the bedroom. Thus I was victorious over the household task. My strategy of having things where I am going to use them is paying off. Seriously, once we decided we were going to work with our brains rather than against them, things have gotten easier. Not effortless, but cutting down on the amount of friction and number of steps is a big help.
For the record, I find it disrespectful of my brain to feel as though I have not done anything today even though I completed my work task. And, you know, showered, and fed the children multiple times, and necessary things like that.
ok so this is another long shot but a few years ago there was a twitter post (in japanese i think?) that had measurememts for how to make this book stand thing out of cardboard that you could use to double up books and use up more space on shelves
back then i made a bunch of these but by now i lost the pic and dont know how to find the original post anymore
if it comes down to it i can just take one apart and get the measurements from there but i would be very grateful if anyone happens to have the original post or something similar??
don't mind how long it's been since i made this post, anyway i realized that i don't even need to take one apart to get the measurements when i can literally just unfold it and refold it /FACEPALM
so anyway here is the diagram for anyone else who is interested!!
this requires pretty big carboard pieces, if you have a really big box or something you can make it from one piece, but if you don't, you can also just make each of the pieces individually and then tape them together
and then in the end you put it together like this!!
and then when you make a bunch you can put them all next to each other and stack your books like crazy
EVERYONE START GETTING MORE USE OUT OF YOUR SPACE NOW!!!!
Reblogging because I will need this when we (finally) get the bookshelves organized properly.
i am massively overdue for a very very good week where not a single bad thing happens and everything is easy

But training on "synthetic stories" that model good AI behavior can help.
Gee, maybe if they hadn't started out by STEALING all that dystopian SF to train their autocomplete machine, this wouldn't be happening... :/
Another day, another “GEE, who could possibly have predicted this.” ISTFG watching the big AI cos. is basically watching the history of neural network research being rediscovered in slow time.
In case anyone's looking for a hopefully fun way to get their body moving, here's my second Fantasy Walking Tour, twenty minutes in Corus.
Reblogging this so I can find it again when it’s not outrageously, unseasonally hot.
I am demonstrating to my son that I can write a post to tumblr.
The fandom overlap is so interesting. I’m following Vorkosigan Saga and M*A*S*H* and Star Trek and the Cosmere and I see a lot of posts for The Pitt and Locked Tomb and several animes I do not know the names of. So if I’m ever bored, I’ll know where to look for something new to obsess over!
Oh and Sherlock Holmes but that’s sort of fandom zero, isn’t it. (Also, if you like Sherlock Holmes and want to make irl friends, Sherlockian groups are all over the place and I’m not sure anyone values friends the way Sherlockians do. A group of people trying to be as loyal and loving to each other as Watson and Holmes - I can’t say enough good things.)
tbh a lot of my advice boils down to “hey you know that terrible horrible looming thing you’re doing your best to avoid and distract and escape as much as possible but no matter what you do it just keeps looming and looming and ruining your life”
“just, fuckign, run straight at it screaming.”
i needed this as a background
I have nothing to add, I just love this so much.

reblog to make prev stop having headaches
🔪 knife stop 🔪
Take a knife or two to complete any tasks you need to finish soon. Reblog to give your mutuals a knife for any group projects you may be working on
hawaiian shirt + dark bags under eyes is a good look… it says yeah i would really love to be carefree and relaxed right now but certain circumstances have made that impossible
This made me realize that there’s a Venn diagram at the intersection of Aral Vorkosigan and Hawkeye Pierce… tired eyes that have seen too much, alcohol (also too much), shirts that seem intended to obliterate the monotony and, well, uniformity of uniform…
Then in one non-overlapping area, it says Doctor and in the other it says Soldier.
…also, the intersection of Hawkeye Pierce and Aral Vorkosigan is happening in an anonymous hotel room, well lubricated with booze, and, uh, lube, but the mutually-destructive attempt to drown themselves in degrading sex isn’t working because they respect each other too much, dammit.
Ilyan is in the bar, staring despondently into his beer. Cordelia is trying to buck him up.
Across the room, BJ is wondering whether they’re open to getting dinner, he thinks Hawkeye and Aral are going to be awhile.

I don't need the chatgpt random algorithm to write emails for me because I already have a custom and 100% flawless algorithm called "writing the exact same three emails with the names changed"
#1: "hi [landlord], hope you're doing well! [apartment thing] is [broken/a problem]. we need it [fixed/replaced/handled] by [date]. let us know when you'll send someone over so we can be here to let them in. thanks so much, [op]"
#2: "hi [professor], hope you're doing well! unfortunately, I'm [sick/stuck at work/dead] and won't be able to submit [assignment] by [due date]. could I please have an extension? if not, is there anything else I could do to make up this credit? thanks so much, [op]"
#3: "hi [customer service person], hope you're doing well! unfortunately, [product] [didn't arrive/is broken/wrong color/gave me a rash/poisoned my crops] and I'd like to receive a [refund/replacement]. here is the documentation of the order and photos of [broken thing/wrong thing/my rash/dead crops]. thanks so much, [op]"
"but op I work in an office I have to write way more emails than you" well that's your fault for working in an office i got nothing to do with that
Writing an email is so easy and I will tell you how it's done. This is the advice is for everyone with an email job, but you can apply it to normal human interaction.
The FIRST SENTENCE is the thing you want the recipient to do. Do not make them guess.
I want to let you know about ... (This email is to inform someone of something not to ask them to do anything)
Could you please do ... (This is a request. You want them to do something).
I'm looking into x and wondering if you can help me (this is also a request but for information instead of an action).
People do not want to read an email and even if they do read it, most people are skimming and not interested. Tell them what you want first, then provide context or other information (when you need a thing is often key). If the email is informational, you can even add "you don't need to do anything, this is just to keep you informed!" People will appreciate not having to figure out what you want from them.
If you can't articulate what you want the recipient to do with the message, you are not ready to email them. I read too many emails where I have no idea what the person wants from me.
Put the most important thing first and everyone will be impressed! AI cannot do this for you because it can't tell what's important! Only you know that, which is why you must write your own emails.
to everyone who wants help with emails: go through the notes of this post. there are ideas I've never thought of and plenty of scripts for all kinds of situations/jobs
Also want to add that you can save these e-mail templates — in outlook, you can do it as a signature — and use the appropriate one, so you don’t have to remember the structure.
If you write a certain kind of document or report, you can set up templates or samples to drop in — I use QuickParts in Word for that.
The folks who sound poised and professional in their communications got that way by deliberate practice and intelligent use of the tools they have to hand.

Middle-aged magical girl.
She's been defending the Earth since the early 90s and she's very tired.
My name is Tominaga Haruka. I was chosen by a magical talking animal, and for the last 29 years I've been Earth's one and only... Wonder-Sparkle Princess.
she's been fighting the same villains for three decades and they are also tired of it. Most of them aren't giving it their all. Half of them are in a groupchat they've added her to where they schedule their evil plans to make sure they don't interfere with each other, or more importantly, with *her* Xalkrax the space demon from outer space decided to attack the city when she was taking her vacation time once, and now he's dead, because even the power of friendship and redemption can't save you if you interrupt her rare vacations
Demon Queen Eluria: Gonna fill the city people's hearts with hatred on thursday to cause mayhem and discord.
Wonder-Sparkle Princess: Can't, got a PTA meeting.
Demon Queen Eluria: Friday?
Wonder-Sparkle Princess: A birthday party.
Demon Queen Eluria: Damn. How about I fill just the mayor's heart with hatred then?
Wonder-Sparkle Princess: That'd be redundant, lol. Maybe fill his heart with a desire to fix the fucking potholes?!
Demon Queen Eluria: LMFAO love you, bitch. Stay strong.
Wonder-Sparkle Princess: You too, gurl. How's the husband? Still dead?
Demon Queen Eluria: Yep. Thanks for that, btw.
Wonder-Sparkle Princess: Don't mess with my time off :p
Why are people tagging this '#wonder sparkle princess' like that's a thing and not a name I made up exclusively for this post?
Congratulations on inventing a new tumblr deity!!
She isn't 29 years old. She's been a magical girl for 29 years. If she started at 14 (typical magical girl protagonist age) then she'd be 43.
Slayers of Old by Jim C. Hines hits a lot of these notes. It was really good and very funny. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/223856335-slayers-of-old
Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Golden Girls in this hum…
at this rate Miles is going to wind up having conned his way into an honest to god interplanetary mercenary fiefdom entirely from If You Give A Mouse A Cookie style consequences of idly defending a rando when he was bored and out of sorts
this is not the direction I expected this to go from my limited fandom osmosis- I was aware going in that Miles is the scrungliest too-smart-for-his-own-good gremlin, and that Cordelia is the badass middle-aged lady that the target audience wants to be, and I was vaguely aware that Miles was a spy or something?
-- and yet I can't say as I mind the turns this has taken
Seriously, VK Tumblr is on fire lately! Yay!
Also ‘If You Give a Mouse a Cookie style consequences’ is an utterly perfect description of WA
I noticed on my reread that part of Miles’s motivation in WA is to impress Elena, and in some ways it’s very similar to his attempts to impress Ekaterin in ACC - with an ever-expanding circle of co-conspirators, a chain of events less under his control than he thinks, and …I’m trying to compare butter bugs to surprise mercenaries but I can’t quite make that work… ah! Unexpected uniformed adversaries!
Though today I re-read Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen, and found it as delightful a closer as I did the first time. Not that I couldn’t read several dozen more books in this series, but Cordelia coming full circle is really lovely.
