welcome aboard, iris ayala, student #13. we are excited to set sail with you! has anyone told you that you look like cierra ramirez? according to our records, you hail from kansas, us, prefer she/her, are female, and are here to study graphic design. we also see you received a spot on the ss university because of your academic scholarship — we won’t tell anyone. during your first few weeks here, other students said you were + determined, + kindly, but also - disorganized. it sounds like you spend most of your time at the wifi lounge. upon checking your luggage, we noticed you packed a heart shaped locket. hopefully your roommates don’t steal it!

he stares at the screen tying to figure out what he thinks but in the end, the fonts just don’t hit it for him the way that they seem to for iris. “if anything, the yellow isn’t enough,” he gives his very badly informed opinion.

“Really?” Iris’ eyes widened in surprise. “Not enough? So... go with a brighter yellow? Or should I change all of the text to yellow?”

“Does it really matter?” Romeo questioned as he looked at Iris. “I think they look pretty much the same.” He answered with a shrug of his shoulders. “Try red.” He replied with a curt nod.

“Yes, it matters, I get graded on this stuff. Red?” She repeated, a little surprised. “That’s a different suggestion. I kind of like it. What shade of red are you thinking?” 

Fable looked over Iris shoulder to gaze at the screen to see the edits and hummed. “They look amazingly great.” She replied honest to her opinion. “I think Asteriska is hands down the best font.” She stated before looking at the color on the screen. “Try yellow, but in pastel. Not as bright, not nearly as tacky.”

“Really? Thank you so much.” Iris beamed at the compliment. She loved being praised.  “I wish I could make up my mind as easily as you do. Pastel! That’s a great idea. Why didn’t I think of that? I swear my brain is only using half its’ potential lately.” 

brown hues glanced down at the screen from the other. as she admired her progress so far in her edits, quinn gave her a sweet smile, “it looks great, oh the fonts are so beautiful it’s hard to pick.” a soft hum left her lips as she brought her hands to rest on her waist. “maybe carolyna pro? i like how it looks. i wouldn’t say the yellow isn’t too much. i say it looks good how it is.. do you think there could be something missing, maybe?”

“They are really pretty, aren’t they? I have to make it tough on myself.” Iris let out a dramatic sigh. She would have an easier time coming to a decision if there weren’t so many options. “I think you’re onto something. It looks a little blank in this area,” she made a circular motion gesturing to the screen, “maybe I could put something there? A quote might be too much. An outlined sketch, you think, or some sort of a doodle?”

VLAMBERT: if i looked as good as you, i would too VLAMBERT: that’s very true VLAMBERT: it’s better to just keep that all for me to see then

               luckily  for  iris   ,   zara  has  an  eye  for  arts  and  design  .   so  when  asked  to  give  her  opinions  about  the  edit   ,   she  glances  down  on  two  calligraphy  fonts  being  showed  to  her  .     ❛   i  think  the  asteriska  looks  prettier  if  it  has  an  option  for  you  to  choose  to  make  the  glyphs  look  simpler  .   and  now   ,   i  think  the  yellow’s  great   !   just  turn  it  into  a  mustard  shade  then  it’ll  be  good  .   also  just  make  sure  to  use  a  slightly  dark   ,   not  black  —  background  so  it  won’t  look  like  it  hurts  the  eyes  .   ❜

“Ooh, I’ll check when I pull my laptop out tonight,” she nodded, with so many fonts downloaded it was hard to remember the options for all of them. Squinting at the picture, she tried to imagine how it would look with a mustard shade. “You’re right. That would make it look a lot smoother, but still stand out. Like a dark gray? Oh my God, yes, I love how your mind works.”

            “…..maybe, it wouldn’t hurt….” he said with a pout on his lips, leaning against the railing behind him as he let out a huff of breath, “i mean, the oceans so rocky at night and i took like, four shots and i don’t drink all that often but damn, that really hurt.”

“Oh, that’ll do it. Two shots for me and I’d be making a fool of myself.” It was really a shame Iris couldn’t hold her alcohol. She’d love to be one of those people that could party all night. “I’m sorry. Do you need some Ibuprofen? I’m sure there’s some in my bag.”

Harper wasn’t used to people thinking about her when she wasn’t around. Or honestly, even when she was around. She couldn’t really help her smile. “These are so cute. I love them.” Her cheeks flushed a little, her surprise apparent on her face. “Thank you, Iris. I can’t wait to wear them, actually. They are cute, aren’t they? But you know, some succulents even grow flowers.”

“Yay! You’re welcome, I hoped you would.” Iris was glad Harper didn’t seem to hold it against her that she’d insulted her dead plant a few weeks back, the earrings her way of trying to ensure there was no bad blood. “Really? I guess I have a lot to learn about... plants in general. My knowledge goes about as far as what a rose bush looks like.”
