Truth to be told, the majority of Manhuas Ive read let their abused MCs be angry, spiteful and unforgiving towards their abusers, who in most cases actually grovels on their knees during their desperate redemption arcs. In comparison, the manhwas I've read have had their MCs use some form of "soft" spite against their abusers, who in most cases are given metaphorical training wheels by the author to make it seem like they are regretful.
The abusers/regretful love interest, family or friends of the MC in majority of manhuas are reffered to as bad people by the author. Whilst authors in Manhwas often wants the reader to view it in a more complex light.
Whilst its good to introduce nuance into a story. I felt, as someone who has experienced abuse in my life, that the manhua validated those experiences more by not making excuses for the abusers they wrote. Even if the abuse was extended for several chapters, the abusers were rarely given a second chance until they truly showed they were remorseful through what the author showed the readers.
And I really appreciated how they, again, let the MC be bitter, unforgiving and someone who didn't accept just the bare minimum of redemption. 💅💕
EDIT: There's also the amount of times I've seen the author tries to use "cute" scenes in manhwas to make the readers view on the abuser soften, by blowing small acts of the bare minimum out of proportion. The same thing in the manhuas are always followed by the MC remembering what the abuser did, and instantly returning back to being cold with them. But in manhwas the MC is always like "huh? 😳 w-why are they being nice? 😢✨️ maybe... I was wrong about them?" It plays into the "perfect/forgiving victim" archetype, or the "love martyr" if the abuser is the love interest.
