i’ve added more to it and looks more like something that could be a real theme park now. not completely done with it yet but it shouldn’t take too much longer.

and also, a quick drawing of my dear pierrot, entirely because i can.

i finally have the plot figured out :3 took like two years but ehhh better late than never i guess. remember the last post i made about my jester son’s redesign? (probably not but whatever that isn’t important right now)

completely disregard pretty much everything i wrote in it, as i’ve changed dam near everything about the character/s since then. hell i’ve even changed the name, it’s Forgotten Carnival now. i finally got around to designing theme park layout, and while i was doing that i changed what he/they are. they? no, i didn’t give jester any new pronouns. i’ve added more characters :3

a magician, ringleader, and a harlequin/arlecchino (couldn’t pick one, so i’m using both :/)

in order of when they were designed. my dear magician wasn’t too difficult to design, but the ringleader and arlecchino? ugh. especially ringleader, as his color palette was a pain. i knew i wanted him to have blue eyes and gold hair, but omfg getting the shades right was frustrating. because i wanted hair color to be more like the color his coat ended up being (the yellow, not the red. i meant coat as in his fur.) and that like. really annoys me, cus even though it does look better the way it is, it’s not what i wanted :/ whatever. it is what it is. and arlecchino’s colors too. still not fully sure how i feel about the red.. do i like it? do i loathe it entirely? unclear. (/j) and i thought that i’d have more trouble with designing their lower halves, since they don’t wear shoes, but that didn’t end up being as much of a problem as i though it would be.

and also, side characters

the pierrot is a pierrot (mostly.. they’re not really hopelessly in love with anyone. they are very sad, though.) lola (the yellow one) and brighella (the red one) are general circus performers, and signora (the pink one) and cirrus (the blue one) are acrobats.

lola, signora, brighella, and cirrus’s refs are less personalized because when i started designing them, i hadn’t intended on doing anymore than just their costumes. and because they’re side characters. if i’d put the same amount of effort into them as i did with the main carnies, it would have taken way longer to get all the designs done. they’re all cats, but the only base i have is for human characters. that’s why none of them have tails. could i have just added a tail the same way i changed the feet to be more cat like? probably. but by the time i remembered that was an option i’d already finished designing them, and i didn’t really feel like going back through and adding a tail four times. and they’ll all get their own separate references anyway.

and last, the MC.

originally i was just going to have lemo be the MC, but when i changed basically everything about the plot, i also decided to have an MC instead of lemo. (lemo is another one of my characters, she’s a yellow and pink candy cat. she’s not super relevant to the visual novel anymore so i’m not including any pictures of her. she’s on my artfight if you wanted to know about her) i’d though about having just one simple design for the MC, but. ew no i’m NOT designing some gray, boring, BALD thing. idc if it’s more work. also the MC’s design is going to be relatively important, so i want them to look good.

they/you work in I.T while studying computer science, but what they/you really want is to be an actor/ess.

you’re a fledgling actor working in I.T until your acting career takes off. which it totally will (not). though you have decided to study computer science as a plan B due to the insistence from your parents, not that you’ll need it though (definitely not cope). one day on your walk to work, you over hear some kids gossiping about this old theme park out in BrightWood forest, daring each other to go out there. a theme park? you used to love those when you were younger, but you don’t really have enough free time to go to them anymore. or money.. you’re really only able to afford your apartment; and that’s with two roommates.

…but out in BrightWood forest..? explains why they’re daring each other to go out there. that place, ironically, is pretty dark and creepy. you’ve heard many a ghost story about it. not like you believe any of them; just folks being paranoid about some weird looking shadows, nothing more.

“hey, how about you go out there, since you’re so interested.” what.. oh. you accidentally lost yourself in thought, listening to them talk about how creepy it supposedly was. you come back to your senses and get back on your way to work, saying something about how you weren’t interested as they snicker at you.

you have nothing to prove to some teens. but.. hm. maybe you were kind of interested. it’s not like any of those ghost stories are true, and an abandoned theme park.. does sound kinda cool. you’d had a passing interest in that kind of thing for some time, but never really had a chance to act on it. until now, it seems. and say, you do have tomorrow off.. might as well.

that’s pretty much everything i have right now (well everything that i can post about. as much as i’d love to keep yapping about my children, i do kinda have to keep some things to myself. even if i do really want to tell you everything.)
