i know this is no new news but i don't care and i will keep talking about it but there is a genuine racism problem in general on this website, and in the selfshipping community.

i wont get into the yume vs selfship discourse even though my two cents of it is: just call it selfshipping.

to me when people use the terms "yume" "riako" and whatnot as a substitute for saying "i selfship with this character and i consider them my spouse" or "i have a serious relationship with this character", it reminds me on how white people would use AAVE as a means of "fitting in" or "it sounds cooler" without knowing the full context to how AAVE came to be. or to put it simply, steal from Black culture. when it comes to "yume" the context i mostly see it in is because "it sounds cooler/cuter" or "it has a stronger meaning" when in reality, it just comes from a different culture. sounds familiar?

and the thing about this is what white people wanna turn a blind eye to this in general or defend themselves by going "oh im white but i dont do any of this stuff". this post is Not About You. and even then, how do you know you aren't doing any of this stuff? just because some of your other white peers are saying that you aren't being racist? but you won't listen to your Black/peers of color when they call you out on something?

instead of trying to defend yourself when you get called out, just suck it up and if you care so much, make the effort to change how you’ve been acting instead of just going back and forth so you won’t have to feel like the bad guy in the situation. get over your white guilt.

i don’t talk about racism much as a Black person on this blog due to the possibility of getting annoying anons about racism. or people getting annoyed that i’m not selfshipping here. but YOU 🫵 white reader, can’t keep turning a blind eye to this and whatever is going around you just so you don’t have to face the fact that you are privileged. you have never dealt with racism your entire life. and HEY, guess what? racism is very real, and you are part of the problem when you don’t do anything about it. don’t try to talk over us, listen to when somebody calls you out and Fix It.

And fucking listen to poc self shippers for once.

ESPECIALLY Japanese self shippers when they say "hey don't do that" .

AND if a black self shipper tells you to stop speaking AAVE like "simp".

If you're white or not the race that is allowed to use those terms? Then keep your mouth shut.

And if I see you try to find another term to use from another language I'm hitting you.

This poll is specific to selfshippers themselves, since I've noticed that imagines are more mindful about including nonconventional F/Os as opposed to the selfshippers (unfortunately).
