Satluj: A Saint, A Super Cop and A Human Rights Activist
The movie Satluj has been facing delays for the last three years. The CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) changed its title several times. Originally, it was titled Ghallughara, then Punjab 95, and finally Satluj. The CBFC asked for 127 cuts, but the makers did not agree. Eventually, the movie was released on Zee5, but after two days it was taken down in India. However, people are still watching pirated copies by downloading them from the internet. Once a movie is released, no one can completely stop people from watching it in this high-tech world. The government says that it could pose a risk to national security, not because of the movie itself, but because some people might use it to influence the people of Punjab, negatively affect the state, or incite unrest among viewers. It is now being screened in gurdwaras across the country, while others argue that it presents the truth and serves the national interest. At the same time, Batwara has also yet to be released, and with the Punjab Assembly elections scheduled for 2027, many people are questioning the timing of these developments and asking who stands to benefit. As the political decisions are often driven not by national or anti-national interests but by self-interest. Time will tell how these events shape public opinion.
