there have been a few posts showing the parallels between lestat’s dynamics with gabriella and akasha (with the memory of baby!lestat and his sticks juxtaposed with keeper!lestat and his ice cream scoop being a major one) but i can’t help but notice that the changes to the towmbk storyline means that the dynamic between lestat and marius/akasha also strongly mirrors the dynamic between lestat and magnus.

marius is singing about lestat’s blue eyes and blonde hair when he wakes up from his dirt nap, which are the physical characteristics magnus sought him out for. marius also took lestat from where he was sleeping, dragged him to an isolated stone room in the middle of nowhere and then told him he was selected to inherit something he not only did not ask for, but was unaware existed previously. this powerful creature you do not understand has identified you specifically to be their heir/keeper congratulations on your new position you cannot refuse it, good luck. and then he gets left with the responsibility of the role with extremely minimal instruction and an empty hall full of treasures, and no one to ask for help. and then he gets forcibly bitten and then given new blood, which causes him to have new, difficult to control powers that he also doesn’t understand before being kicked out again.

The only one of Enkil’s injuries that sort of makes sense as a result of only burning is the fingers. Even those, it’s suspicious how none of the other fingers are even chipped.

That foot is cleanly severed. That head is bashed open by someone who then went for the brain (because they know a core exists?).

Something else happened besides Marius just having a few too many.

Theory #1 - Marius planned to end everything by destroying them and lost his nerve.

Theory #2 - Someone drugged Marius and tried to either destroy or steal Akasha and Enkil.

Theory #3 - Akasha has woken up before, tried to kill Enkil, and Marius has talked her down (possibly more than once) sometime before the burning, which was actually just a mistake like he describes.

In any of these scenarios, I’m convinced Marius is being misleading in the same way as Louis was with the fight - his story is technically true but missing a lot of context that makes a very different big picture. Him becoming more and more unraveled and unreliable and needing a replacement was all real, but he’s still hiding something.
