My Favorite genre of Iron Man captions is when they make it clear that Tony is human inside of the suit and that he’s very, very hurt, but he Wants To Help so he overcomes it. Nothing better.Â
Transcription of the Anthony Mackie Variety Interview
I saw someone do this on twitter too. Here is what was said in that podcast in it's full context. The interviewer is Adam B. Vary.
Interviewer: Did you pay much attention to how fans reacted to Sam and Bucky's sort of evolving relationship?
Anthony Mackie: I didn't, I try to stay away from fans' stuff, um, you know, the, the fandom is a very dangerous place. So uh, I just let it be what it is and, and move on.
Int: (amused) That's - I think that's probably very healthy. I was asking because, uh you know, my job is to pay attention to the fandoms so I-
AM: (laughs)
Int: I (chuckles) I noticed that, you know, and this is, I think that, is been happening with Bucky just in general as a character, there are fans who just sort of, are outright wanting Sam and Bucky to become a couple. That they just loved them together -
AM: (giggles)
Int: Um and (laughs) uh, you know, uh I can see that, that made you smile um.
AM: (laughs)
Int: I guess, I'm interested in the, you know, how - it's so rare to see male friendship.
AM: Mhm.
Int: And male, sort of, platonic love, in a superhero context, and Bucky's now had it twice, he had it with Steve and now he's getting it with Sam.
AM: Mhm. Yeah.
Int: For you, as an actor, like being able to explore that element of a relationship with another male character, I'm just curious how, how that evolves for you and what that's like for you to play.
AM: Um well, interesting, uh, great question. Because, for me, in this day and age so many things are twisted and convoluted. There's so many things that people latch onto with their own devices to make themselves relevant and rational. But it - it's not the first time I experimented or played with that, I did an episode of Black Mirror where it was the exact same thing.
[Mackie starred in an episode of Black Mirror called Striking Vipers. The episode tries to touch on the struggles of black masulinity, heteronormativity, gender and intimate relationships. Mackie's character rationalizes himself into thinking the feelings he has for his male best friend are purely virtual so as to stay with his wife.]
So, there's the missing context to what the Variety article quoted from Mackie. The question started with Vary saying "fans want Sam and Bucky to be a couple" to which Mackie didn't seem to react negatively to, but the question was not directed towards what Anthony thought about it. Instead, it was turned into what he thought of male frienships that are "rare" in the "superhero context." But in the actual article it says that "about Sam and Bucky's romantic relationship, this is what Mackie had to say" which is not true.
Here's the @thetransguard post that sums up a lot of what happened, including useful links for more info.
I don't want to bring more attention to this, I want to put this thing to rest, but accountability is important and what Variety and Vary did with this article was vile.
every time I think about din for more than two seconds I want to die he gave up everything for this little baby because he knows grogu is worth it he lives this life of incredible violence and loneliness but he still has so much kindness in him because he’s never been able to let go of being a soft and gentle person no matter how many people try to beat it out of him and now that he has this little baby to take care of he’s overwhelmed with years of unused love and he doesn’t know what to do with it so he gives grogu the little lever ball and lets him sleep in his lap and calls him kid

Genuinely where is this energy for Chris "I attend a homophobic church" Pratt? For Scarlet "whole ass zionist" Johansson? For Chris "let's sign bombs that will kill brown people" Evans? For Ryan "got married on an actual factual Plantation" Reynolds? Anthony Mackie makes one (1) tone deaf statement and now he's the King of Homophobia. Meanwhile y'all can't even write his character with any nuance or without any racial tropes coming in to play in the gay ships, but you want him to gaybait for you? The fuck is he supposed to do? Play coy and lead you on so you can give Disney/Marvel more fucking money? Or do you think they'll actually make him gay so he can be their 46th "NEW LGBT CHARACTER!!!!!"?
Anthony Mackie, paraphrased : I think homosexuality is a pure and beautiful thing that is often exploited and you shouldn’t assume a man is gay just because he’s sensitive or has close bonds with other men. Also toxic masculinity is bad.
Y’all weirdos : hE’S HoMOpHoBIC!1!1!1
regarding mcu ms marvel (2021)
tw / anti blackness, racism, sexual assault
back in august 2019, i was beyond excited to see kamala khan was being introduced in the mcu. i even cried when her disney + series was announced.
now, in june 2021, i hate everything the mcu has done to kamala, her friends and family and her plot lines.
please, please, i am begging you to share this tweet talking about the directors’ anti blackness in previous projects.Â
this is only the beginning, though. my friends and i are the admins of the MsMarvelNews Twitter acc and we’ve made a carrd to spread all the show’s scoops AND controversies (featuring things like colorism and orientalism).
HERE’S THE LINK spread it.Â
i don’t know, i know most mcu fans don’t care about this, but i don’t want to see any type of support for that show.
i be missing u:((
thank you, i do too :(( idk why but even tho i keep loving tony to death, i still struggle a lot w motivation in the marvel fandom so rip
lately ive been thinking of trying to become more active by maybe writing fics?? im participating in the ironhusbands and the stony bingo but we'll see how it goes bc life has been busy too so dkdhdj yeah

you know james bond isn’t a real person, right? i don’t know what you’re talking about.
Venom from Dan’s perspective is so funny. i mean. he tells eddie that he has a space tapeworm that’s eating his insides and eddie immediately starts crying bc his feelings are hurt and then he starts yelling about how he can’t believe the space tapeworm would do that after it acted like it wanted to be friends. and Dan’s just standing there like ?????! bc nothing in medical school covered how to handle this.
Okay but Dan never even says it’s from space, he just says it’s some kind of parasite that’s making his heart atrophy.
From his perspective, he tells Eddie he’s got a parasite that’s damaging his body and Eddie seems to take this personally. Then his gf Anne says to Eddie “You’re killing him” … is she saying Eddie’s killing his tapeworm? Is she talking to…the tapeworm??
So Dan tells him he needs to get it removed and suddenly Eddie’s arm goes all gooey? And starts choking him?? And Eddie kinda just seems embarrassed and apologetic about the whole thing???
Anyway a living blob of tar jumps out of Eddie’s chest and he breaks up with it before storming off and after all this Dan look to his gf for some sort of explanation and what does she have to say?
“I assure you I’m not cheating on you with that guy” LIKE THAT’S WHAT WAS ON HIS MIND!
They’re back baby🖤
Sony really went "you know our target audience is monsterfuckers so let's make Venom as much husband material as characteristically possible in the trailer" and it worked

I love how the whole point of Avengers is Steve was glaringly wrong about Tony Stark and everyone just heard “genius. billionaire. playboy. philanthropist.” and ran with it
Tony: hey the world is gonna end if we split up
Everyone: wow you’re so paranoid and arrogant
Tony: *is right*
Everyone: ok cool can you fix this for us now please?
Tony spends a whole movie trying to tell Bruce he doesn’t need to be afraid of Hulk because even though he has the potential for destruction he also has the potential for tremendous good and then Hulk saves his life and all the fandom remembers is that he was kind of annoying to Bruce
Tony made like...horrific mistakes at the beginning of his story (and in the middle! You know, like a real person) and then consistently adjusts his behavior and tries to make reparations. A direct quote from Tony Stark: “I was wrong.”
But he’s apparently a villain who never considers others
The fandom: ugh Tony’s so full of himself he thinks the world revolves around him
Like ten villains in the mcu: one time Tony Stark looked at me wrong so now I have to set this orphanage on fire :(
i intend to always be ready to help. regardless of the country involved.
