Now I was looking for the picture I've seen in a lot of places, because at first glance it looks like a tender arrowfam moment , but while looked at it I wondered why Roy wasn't included in the hug itself.
First of all this is from Green Arrow/Black Canary and before getting into this panel the context is sad itself.
They are all worried, waiting for some response from Hal since Connor has been shot in the chest by an unknown person.
The whole justice league came to rescue , but only the family members stayed to receive the news. Between them, Oliver, Dinah , Mia, and Roy.
Ollie is in a bad place , of course, he is worried about his son's well-being.
He begins to review aspects that he could have done differently, things that he regrets.
He could've told Connor the truth. He could've been there his whole life. He could've been with him since he was little.
But then Ollie says he actually looked for Connor. And maybe he could've found him. But he stopped. Why?
This is Roy's reaction to this information.
And while they were all in a bad moment, this comment was somehow unnecessary, a bit awkward at least.
Later on, Mia reasures Oliver about Connor loving him. About knowing , which eases up Oliver a little.
While Roy is silent, staring.
Oliver said he probably would've found him before if it wasn't for him. If he didn't stop looking.
And while Mia had lighten up Oliver's guilt, now Roy remains silent , staring by the side.
Later on, Connor lives , and chapters later, the topic is only brought by Oliver again, who recognizes Roy could've been his "replacement" to not feel guilty.
We don't get to see Roy's perspective about this , but instead those few panels of him, just being apart.
And it breaks my heart cause this goes right on point on Roy's insecurity of not fitting, not actually belonging.
But maybe I'm just overthinking it.
