It's sad how much Roy, even when their relationship is at it's rockiest, still looks up to Ollie and values what he thinks of him. In Snowbirds, Roy is still trying to be strong and independent as he was taught ( and what Ollie uses as an excuse to reason why it can't be his fault Speedy became an addict ). So much so that when Roy's obvious cry for help was dismissed by Oliver as a 'sob story,' it left such an impact that he initially refuses Green Lantern's help to prove that he can overcome his addiction alone and when explaining to Dinah what happened, he echoes back Ollie's words and minimizes his struggles as a 'sob story.'
Even if the ending is kind of rushed and bittersweet ( Roy having to grow up too fast because of his guardian's neglect being seen as him 'finally becoming a man' ) it's nice that Roy acknowledges Dinah and Hal were important to his recovery. That him reaching out was the bravest thing he could've done, rejecting Ollie's usual method of hanging tough. Community and support is what got him clean and he leaves so he can be the Black Canary to other people that were just like him.
