making mistakes in the process of learning is not only natural, it is also essential

activities that you enjoy can give you more energy back than you spent on them

from the bottom of my heart, if it will make you happy and you have the means to do so, i think you should! i do think people put too much emphasis on 'finding your own style'. its lovely to see people whove really honed one particular style that really works for them but to me personally, i find it limiting to only let yourself do that, because you learn SO much from mimicking styles, and its the only way to naturally create one of your own

i used to copy teen titans characters out of the comics, (until i ran out of panels to copy) and now a lot of the muscle structure i know comes from a comic i bought when i was 14 and still own, and it informed the way i was able to grasp rise of the tmnt's style a decade and a half later. the way i draw rocky backgrounds comes from a manga i read when i was 16, and i draw blocky metal because of transformers. i draw shoe shapes well because of copying sonic at age 8 , and when i was like 9 or 10 i remember painstakingly copying ben 10 off a dvd cover and the way i still do a clothing fold over shoes is learned from that. im 29 now and i still like to style match to whatever media im into bc i enjoy it! i definitely have some things that are mine, like how i draw stumpy thick hands, or particular clothing folds, but i genuinely see nothing wrong with style matching forever if you enjoy it

i think style comes from being inspired by others, and instead of being focused on finding one style to draw in, a lot of people would find it more liberating to focus on drawing for fun, and if they happen to find some things they particularly like drawing to graft onto their next thing then thats just a bonus!
