Pain takes a toll on us all. However, the damage done is often multiplied when you have no healthy outlet for your pain. If your heart tastes grief repeatedly and feels it cannot express how much it hurts, it stops expressing itself. And when it stops expressing itself, it traps a bunch of negative emotions and thoughts in the same place. You can imagine how disastrous that could be. Stress-induced illnesses and disease. "Acting out" out to feel seen or because asking for love and help feels difficult. Engaging in problematic behaviors to distract your mind from the chaos raging inside of you. An inability to stop thinking about old memories or advocate for yourself before others. Fearing the future or avoiding everything that your mind associates with the experience. One way or another, that pain will find its way out. It will force you to give it the attention it deserves.
So let it out willingly. Find a friendly ear. Discuss problems as they arise, instead of when it's too late. Pray and let yourself have hope. Remove yourself from stressful situations. Write down what you feel. Draw, paint, and make a mess. Channel your pain into something. Because if you try to silence it, it will force itself out of you in a way that can hurt you and others.
You won't always feel good. Bad days are a part of life. But finding healthy outlets will make the bad days more manageable and prevent them from seeping into tomorrow.
