"(I)f you could get far enough away from the earth to look back on it, as we do on Saturn through a telescope, you would see a belt of clouds around it. The water of the equator, under the hot sun, is constantly sending up vapor which turns to clouds in the cooler atmosphere of the upper regions and then comes down in rain."

In the summer of 1916, Georgia O'Keeffe camped with friends in the Appalachian Mountains before beginning a teaching position in Canyon, Texas in September. When she was not teaching, O'Keeffe could be seen exploring the landscape around Canyon. These excursions inspired several watercolors where her abstract experiments met her experience of the outdoors.

In 'Hill, Stream and Moon, O'Keeffe's approach is almost fully abstract: A large hill arches over the composition, while a blue stripe between two green banks denotes a stream. Above the hill, a yellow moon emerges in the sky.

Years later, in 1976, O'Keeffe wrote: "Objective painting is not good painting unless it is good in the abstract sense.

A hill or tree cannot make a good painting just because it is a hill or a tree. It is lines and colors put together so that they say something."

I was homeless. I was homeless as a child and as an adult. That shit sucks believe it or not.

The uncertainty. The ever-present grimy feeling from lack of access to running water. Having nothing to your name. The shame you feel is asking your fellow man for the bare minimum. Just so much shame, man.

"Unhoused" is so clinical. A technical term. Sure, its not incorrect, but it doesn't properly convey the emotional and psychological impact homelessness has on you.

You say "house", I think of a structure.

I have been given new and important information on the distinction between “homeless” and “unhoused”!

The term “unhoused” is useful for those in social work when they have to make the distinction between someone who is say, couchsurfing but still has a roof over their head, and someone who’s sleeping in a tent beneath an underpass. Both are homeless, but one is unhoused.
