Fun fact. Nothing can stop you from finding the oldest art your friend has ever made on their blog and reblogging it.
Saw someone on Reddit asking what the requirements are for going to the library. Not to get a card and check stuff out. Just to hang out there. I don't mean to make fun of the poster for not knowing. I blame capitalism and the reduction of third spaces for making the idea of being able to just exist in a free public space seem like a strange concept to people. Anyway. This inspired a meme.
the long awaited sequel
Every time an author reassures readers that the smut is skippable I sigh a disappointed sigh. This is not a reassurance. Why would anybody who likes smut want to read smut that was only included as an afterthought and has no impact on the narrative? Insulting. Just don't write it at all if you're not going to make it matter.
#on the one hand I understand that some people don’t want to read smut
Like 85% of tumblr users hate and loathe embarrassment based comedy with every fiber of their beings, but never in my life have I ever seen an author reassure their audience that the embarrassing scenes are skippable.
Lots of people dislike tragedy but never in my life have I ever seen an author reassure the audience that the death and grieving scenes are skippable.
Stop trying to pass off self-censorship as “accommodation.” Stop trying to pass off pandering as “inclusivity.”
Your audience can smell your fear, and it smells rancid.

Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
#'this is present in the text' is often a good first step #but those second and third ones (naming it; describing its function) are vital (via @elucubrare)
As Theodore Sturgeon said, ask the next question.
being too warm during the day: well, this sucks, but this temperature makes sense because the sun is up, and the sun is making me warm. i am unhappy but logically i can deal with it for now.
being too warm at night: what if i kill everybody.

I'm looking SO intently the Salvastra Mission AU‼️ I wanna know all the nitty-gritty logistics of it soooo bad. Communication between Erid and Earth would be borderline impossible, and even if they did manage it, a conversation between the two would take several human lifetimes! Did earth just send a bunch of messages in various ways saying "Hey, we are gonna send some people over. Please don't kill them. We love you" and then launch the crew into space (seriously, imagine the anxiety over arriving at this alien planet only to find out they wont welcome you... ough).
I kinda like to imagine humanity had the same sort of desperation to get in contact with the Eridians as they did to save their planet. They finally got confirmation they were not alone in the universe and scrapped together a dangerous, possibly lifelong mission just to see them...
I already explained in other post that “salvastra” is kind of a pun, “salve astra” means “hello star” but salve/salvar means “save” in mine and a few other languages, so salvastra has a sorta double meaning - save star/hello star(eridani) since they werent sure what to expect.
Because like you said, communication between Arid and Earth is borderline impossible.
When the beatles came back to earth, humanity had NO idea if rocky and grace made it to Erid. They figured the taumoeba worked (-maybe a bit TOO well considering the leaks) but not if it ever made it to the other planet. They knew grace didn't have enough food for the trip, they knew Erid had already passed their 70 year threshold for rocky's mission to return, and they knew there was a whole planet, a planet full of life (intelligente life at that- friendly, intelligent life- neighboors, finally.) posibly going throught the same thing they've been going throught for the past 29 years. Humanity could have sent a probe, but that risked the taumoeba dying en route, and if they were already going through the trouble of sending people- why not their best people? The salvastra is a sort of life-long mission for the crew, not because they arent expected to come back, but just because of the length of it, at least 30 years will have passed on earth when they come back, they're dedicating their entire lives to meet their neighbors make sure their make it too
