WIP - “Baker” 11x14 oil on canvas. Set this one aside for a while. Eventually decided it was because I hated my source picture of Baker so I picked a new one. This is another painting I’m mostly making up by stitching together things I like. A lot of it has just come from my head - a skill I’m trying to develop. I made a happy mistake - used a brush that had burnt sienna instead of the dark blue I had made, and pushed it in the shade up to the white. Finished - Pato Feliz, oil on canvas 12x16. He’s been in process for a year but got put away for a while. I chose this to paint because of his smile, and I thought it would be difficult to paint the reflection in the water and how he breaks the surface tension. I feel I accomplished those. The other reason was how bright and shiny his head is. I cannot get a good picture that shows the vibrancy of his head but I was unsuccessful at matching the photo reference. Seems nature has outwitted me this time. I caught my honey just staring at it for a while and he said he couldn’t figure out how I made ripples in the reflection.
