So much had happened in the wake of Laurel's disappearance- the falling out of her friend group, Nadine's involvement in Panic, the semi rekindling of her relationship with Reed. So long as the mystery of Laurel's whereabouts loomed over them though, they'd never truly be friends again, at least that's what she was delusional enough to tell herself. If she could just clear her name they could go back to the way things were- or not as they were exactly, but an improvement on what once was. She'd acknowledged the flaws of her relationships, and she'd been trying to do better, emphasis on try.
And then it happened: mystery solved. The TV at the bar caught Nadine's attention as it displayed a picture of none other than their Laurel, cut between footage of the authorities recovering a body from Lake Michigan. Slowly she set down the martini in her hand in favor of her phone, pulling up an article in a quick google search to gather the details. She doubted Saskia would respond but she brought up their old group chat anyway, firing off a text with just a link to the article at first, then adding, 'Believe this calls for a reunion? My place in an hour.' Whether or not any of them would actually show, or even want to talk to her, was yet to be determined, but she paid her tab anyway and headed back to her apartment. @beckett-guerrero @reedxlewis

.
The last 48 hours had been a whirlwind. A call from her father was a rare occurrence these days and the teary voice sheâd heard when she picked up sent her straight back to the night of Laurelâs disappearance in the worst way. It was like no time had passed but everything had changed. She went to their house to see her grieving father and step-father and they relayed the news. Laurelâs body had been found. Apparently, by the time they were able to positively identify her, theyâd ruled her death an accidental drowning. Theyâd seen no signs of foul play whatsoever. The news was both a gut punch and a massive relief. The mystery of Laurel had been looming over Reed almost larger than Laurel herself had when sheâd been tormenting her. Her immediate thought after the initial feelings cleared was of Nadine. She hadnât killed her evil step-sister, after all.Â
It didnât taken long for Nadine to reach out after the news broke. Reedâd heart lurched at the sight of the group chat name she hadnât seen in years. She scoffed when she read Nadineâs text. âMy place in an hour.â Reed repeated in a sardonic mumble. Her sister dies and Nadine is already giving orders to the old group. In some ways, maybe nothing had changed. Reed wrote out a few drafts of a biting rejection she never sent. What was the point? Of course she was going. Sheâd spent the night at her fatherâs house and left in the clothes sheâd worn there the day prior with no more than a vague announcement of her departure. It would take a lot more than a grieving father to fix that relationship. She showed up to Nadineâs a little after an hour, feeling silently proud of the pathetic defiance that would likely go unnoticed. She gave a half-smirk when she saw Nadine on the other side of the door. âGood news is, I guess youâre not a murderer.â
