It is okay for people you love to leave. For them to come and go. She taught it to me over and over.

It scares me that I don’t know how our story is going to end. Five months from now we could be together, we could also be strangers again.

Why is it so hard to articulate love yet so easy to express disappointment?

There are a few things in life so beautiful they hurt: swimming in the ocean while it rains, reading alone in empty libraries, the sea of stars that appear when you’re miles away from the neon lights of the city, bars after 2am, walking in the wilderness, all the phases of the moon, the things we do not know about the universe, and you.

How you feel about someone is not nearly as important as how they make you feel about yourself.

I think about you. But I don’t say it anymore.

Some people say home is where you come from. But I think it’s a place you need to find, like it’s scattered and you pick pieces of it up along the way.

Sympathy’s easy. You have sympathy for starving children swatting at flies on the late-night commercials. Sympathy is easy because it comes from a position of power. Empathy is getting down on your knees and looking someone else in the eye and realizing you could be them, and that all that separates you is luck.

She bottled everything inside and waited for the day she would explode.

You’re the only girl I’ve seen for a long time that actually did look like something blooming.

I still miss him. But I know now, that I don’t want or need him. My life is already better, and I think I found someone new who can make me feel everything I ever longed to feel. It took a while but I think I’m almost healed. It’s a nice but very complicated feeling.
