she's getting drunk night after night and she's not a cutesy drunk. she's sloppy and she trips over things and her dog also likes to get into things he shouldn't but she only half-heartedly tells him no because she doesn't really care. and she wakes up hungover in her clothes from the night before and her hair's a mess and she probably hasn't showered in who knows how long and she uses the bathroom with the door open and then passes out on the toilet. her sink is full of dirty dishes and half-eaten bowls of cereal and her dog is peeing in her ship. earth isn't her home and she's trying to avoid being there but she has vinyl records from earth and she's watching casablanca in bed and she makes earth pop culture references all the time. she's a mess. she's angry and grieving and she drinks to drown out her feelings and she's kind of an asshole and not always very nice. she acts like she doesn't care but the second some asshole guy threatens a young girl, she's putting herself at risk to fight him and get back what he stole. as her mother makes her promise and as ruthye tells her, she's not perfect or nice all the time, and she doesn't have to be. but at her core, even with her heavy, grief-laden heart, she is still kind and good. she is still a hero.
