SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME (2021) dir. Jon Watts
I love how committed Hadestown is to giving Orphydice different races, ages and body types across productions. There is truly an Orpheus and Eurydice for everyone.
the worst part of summer is that people get sooo comfortable expressing their disgust at having to see other people’s bodies. they’re always complaining about wrinkly old men at the nude hot springs or fat women in bikinis at the beach. I hate that shit. if you’re not capable of being normal about bodies you personally don’t find attractive, just turn your head to look at something else! and if you’re not smart enough to do that, then at least do the rest of us the courtesy of suffering in silence, because we don’t wanna hear your weird comments. thanks.
I can’t get a job because I’m too sick but I can’t get therapy because I don’t have health insurance and I need a job to get health insurance but I can’t work because I’m too

I conceptually liked DCU Kendra/Kara but we saw so little of Kara in Superman that I didn’t really think about it much. Anyway, now I have seen Supergirl and I very very very much would like to see these two interact. I see the vision so much now.
Pro tip: when you see a brand new slang term, your first question should be how that term has been used in AAVE for the past 20-30 years.
This, too. This is a big one as well.
Okay, so Forbidden Fruits is obviously very camp, very satirical, quite silly in places, but I genuinely love that this is at its core a story about lonely women. Like, it is so clear that these people are so alone and that’s why they come together so forcefully and with such toxicity. Cherry has lost her entire family. Fig was the weird girl without friends in high school. Apple is so very, very queer and angry, living out of her car. Pumpkin is trying to move through grief. Like, yes, this movie is wild and wacky and a spiritual successor to Jennifer’s Body, American Psycho, The Craft, Mean Girls—but it’s also weirdly one of the most honest depictions of female relationships I’ve seen in a minute. How easy it is to get obsessed with the first people who seem to see you. How easy it is to fall into the gravity of people who will tell you how to be your best self. How those rules will consume your true identity and replace it with conformity. How you can’t really survive that.

(kloysius) Unaltered Castlevania family portrait finally!
I think there are seeds of Gleb being a very interesting character in the book, but most productions look at this character and go, “Oh, he’s the romantic rival for Dmitry!” And they cast an attractive and fit man around the same age as Anya and Dmitry, and sometimes have him touch her or even assault her in their brief scenes together.
Gleb’s conflict is so much more interesting (and less disgusting) if it’s about his father’s actions during the revolution instead of a romantic/sexual attachment to this young woman he doesn’t know. His father is implied to have participated in the assassination of the Romanovs, and afterward is so upset with his own actions that he ends his life. Gleb grows up thinking that his father did the right thing and was a heroic figure, but then he meets a woman who seems to believe she’s one of the children his father was said to have killed. She becomes a way to honor his father’s memory, but it’s up for him to decide if that’s by killing her or letting her go free. Either he finishes his father’s task or lets him rest easy by letting one of the grown up children escape.
And that is so! much! more! compelling! than this awkward love triangle where he hardly knows one party and never interacts with the other. The scene where he points a gun at Anya’s head is already dark and scary enough without him putting his hands on her and trying to kiss her.
We NEED to keep talking about how celebrities are getting too thin. We need to talk about how that is not healthy, how it isnt and shouldn't be a beauty standard. We have to do it for Gen alpha growing up and for everyone else who lived through this once and recovered
I think that the max amount of time I can shove all my depression and mental illness into a bottle and ignore it is about 6 days, and every year we do this goddamn 8 day road trip and it sucks every single time for the last 2 days.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL (2003) dir. Gore Verbinski
at some point in your life you are going to do or say something racist, sexist, or otherwise bigoted. Your goal is not perfection, your goal is to be the kind of person that the people you've hurt feel safe being honest with when that happens.
