Developing a permanent mental disorder as a result of the trauma. PTSD, DID, etc.
Bad habits that they might be able to overcome now, but you know will eventually return when they're not mentally sound.
Forcing them to adapt to a new way of living because of something that was done to them is just so deliciously cruel. They've gotta go through the grieving process, and some might never fully heal from it. Some might not even survive.
