Favourite Krishna songs in so many languages!
Obviously there are many, many, many more, but my current fav atm. <3
Nithur Monohor: a song laden in abhimaan by @Ishaan ΰ¦ΰ¦° Gaan, running on a philosophical mix of (imo) Tagore's 'ko tuha bolabi mohe' and Khusrao's 'ba-janaaza-gar ni aaye, ba-mazhaar-khwaahi aamad'.
Aamar Hariye Geche Brajer Kanai: an absolutely heart-wrenching song by Kazi Nazrul Islam where the people of Braja lament how the city Dwarika has swallowed up their beloved Gopal.
Gahan Kusum Kunja: One of Tagore's, and technically not Bengali, but Brajabuli. An ethereal description of Radha and Krishna's nightly meetings, a part of one of Tagore's earliest works: Bhanusingh-er Padavali, a must check out, and you wont have much of a problem if you know Hindi. Another similar, by Vidyapati: Sundari Radhe.
Dekechi Roop-shaagore: an evergreen song written by Nabani Das Baul and composed by Rabindranath. A emotional offering of the sahajiya traditions of a human chasing the playful, elusive divine. Similar songs are also Hridmajhare, Moner Manush, Tomar Ghore and Kajol Bhromora, and one for the Krishna-Kali traditions: Mon Re.
Kaanada Raja: An exceedingly sweet song by G. D. Madgulkar, with all the right ingredients i.e., Krishna being an absolute cutie with people who like him!
Bharajari Ga: Such a beautiful song about Draupadi and Krishna by Acharya Atre (though I wish Subhadra hadn't caught a stray there), and I LOVE the imageries they've used.
Abeer Gulal: By Sant Chokhamela, and obviously a Mahesh Kale rendition, and that mean a masterpiece guaranteed!
Pandharicha Bhoota: Such a beautiful one! I loved the dance representation by Divya Ravi as part of her 'Vithamai' also! I LOVE Tukaram for this!
Vrindavani Venu: such a lilting melody by Bhanudas, and such flowing words! I cannot find the original video I watched of this, so this is going to have to do! <3
This kinds of songs being the extent of Kannada that I know, I am proud to announce that I can call an auto any time in Bangalore, but I can't make 'em go anywhere :/
Baro Krishnayya: This Kanakadasa devarnama absolutely elevated by Parshwa Sir and Shruti maam, is an all time favourite!
Krishna nee Begane Baro: Such a pretty, pretty song by Vyasateertha, and the baby Krishna imagery is just too much!
Kandena Udupiya: A Purandara Dasa classic obviously! I already like Udupi Krishna so much, legend and all, you don't need to make me like him more (but its working and I like that).
Naagar Nanda ji na Laal: Narsinh Mehta's such a playful lil song! I LOVE the 'Subhadra-na veera' and the 'Radhaji ni nathni no Shyamalio che chor'!
Radha nu Naam tame: A haunting melody, I keep humming this on and off months after I hear it even once!
Tara vina Shyam mane: Such an honest heartfelt prayer from the perspective of Krishna's friends, and the melody my God!
Hindi/Awadhi/Marwari/Brijbhasha/Urdu/That Side:
Shyam Ghanashyam Barso: A very poignant song I keep coming back to! Such emotional heights it touches.
Lalla ke sun ke main aayi: This is such a cute little song, and not everyday you see Yashoda actually getting the center stage!
Mathurabasi Kunvar Kanhaiya: This one, by Hz Aoghat Shah Warsi, has captured Krishna's essence so well, and it's such a warm and lovely song!
Mere Banne ki Baat na Poocho: Another gem from Khusrao, filled with such heartwarming imagery!
Madhukar Shyaam: This Surdas bhajan's renditio by K. L. Saigal is such a beautiful, simple song, with all the adhikara of the gopis!
Mai mhano supnama: This is such a beautiful, beautiful song, a narrative parallel to the Tamizh Nachiyar Thirumozhi- a rendition of Meera's marriage to Krishna in her dream! It is also a bit sad, considering Meera's actual life, and the lyrics reflect it.
Also, the entire soundtrack of both RS'Shri Krishna and Colors' Jai Shree Krishna, they are peak nostalgia for me as well as laden with so many nods to old literature!
Chandana Charchita: A gem from Jayadeva, and K. Srikanth Sir's voice just melts like butter on warm toast, not to say anything of the genius of Harinie Ma'am!
Alokaye Sakhi Bala-Krishnam: A rare keerthanam on our dancing Krishna, I haven't heard many of them, outside of the Kaliya-daman story-based song repertoire, and it is precious! Honestly though, anything from Leela Tarangini goes!
Kalinga Narthana Thillana: These two, Sooryagayathri and Rahul Vellal are absolutely amazing, and this is anyways a masterpiece of a song.
There are so many others, but I am not gonna list out 'a comprehensive overview of the entirety of Sanskrit literature'!
Vishamakara Kannan: This is such a fun, cute (slight risque) song. Love listening to it on repeat, and Chitrambari ma'am and Bhairavi ma'am just make it that much better!
Maadu meikkum Kanne: A classic for sure! I looked up the word-for-word translation and I was not disappointed, THIS IS KRISHNA. There was another version by Simran Sivakumar with fantastic acting, but I couldn't find it, so I put the cutest one instead.
Enna tavam seithanai: As I've said, I have a HUGE soft spot for Yashoda, and this one just hits all the right notes for me!
Kannan en kadalan: This one from a dance drama by Sridevi Nrithyalaya, is one of the more poignant takes on the Radha-Krishna love story from Krishna's side. The way they juxtapose Rama with Krishna, and the latter's absolute annoyance at all the extra work Lakshmi's making him do this around, is absolutely adorable!
Nachiyar Thirumozhi: Andal is just such a sweetheart, so is her Rangamannar, and these kids on stage are equally cute! On repeat, for sure!
Jo Achyutananda: CUTE CUTE CUTE CUTE! Krishna is cute, Annamayya is cute, Yashoda in the songs is cute, everybody is just cute!
Parama Purushudu: I love how they've incorporated Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam's voice, and the song itself is so exceedingly beautiful and danceable! Why is Annamayya so great, not fair!
Muddgare Yashoda: The idea of combining precious stones with precious Krishna is so lovely! "Kantula mudu lokala gadura-pachha-pusa, chentala malo ninna chinni Krishnudu" is just peak literature for me!
O Jadobo utha Bonomali: LOVE how the gopas (and his mothers) are trying to wake up their lil god buddy to go take the cows out!
Kede Chhando: An old-fashioned gem from the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra's repertoire, and always a pleasure to go back to it!
Also there are obviously so many more languages to learn and so many songs to enjoy outside of just these! If yall have any recommendations too, do send Γ©m over, I'd love nothing more!
