I have many other things I should be writing, but I recently binged Solo Leveling and couldn't help myself.
This is set pre-canon - but I am tempted to continue this into the canon events! Disclaimer: I have not read the manhwa/light novel though I have been spoiled for the general ending. (Title may change later if I post this on AO3.)
Now have fun reading submissive!Jinwoo with a crush on the reader :)
You huffed, arms straining as you shuffled up the stairs. Why did you have to live on a higher level?
The shopping trip was to set you up for the next fortnight, a task you never looked forward to because of this exact moment. A weekly run never ended well for your bank account though, so you had long resigned to make do like this.
It was good exercise at least…
“Nuna, let me help!”
… until your neighbour inevitably found you struggling.
Jinwoo ran up to your side, his face and hands covered in bandages. You sighed fondly at him, “How bad are your injuries?”
He waved your concern away quickly, blushing but determined. “I’m okay, it looks worse than it is.”
He was stubborn, so you just sighed again and smiled. “Fine, you take this one.”
You gave him the bigger of the two bags, knowing he’d only complain if you handed him the other. You were stubborn too, so he didn’t argue that he could carry both.
The thought hit that you needed to remember to swap arms next time, to workout both evenly. It wouldn’t do to have muscles on only one side.
The two of you continued up another few floors, passing his door on the way. “How’s Jinah?”
His face lit up, even as sweat started to bead on his forehead. “Good! She’s doing really well in school.”
It was cute how proud of her he was. You laughed a little and nudged him in the arm, wobbling from the change in balance. “Do you think she’d like me to cook her a meal tomorrow?”
He practically glowed. “We’d both love that, nuna!” Then his eyes dropped politely. “Only if you have time of course.”
“I always have time for my favourite neighbours.”
Finally, you arrived at your home. You unlocked the door, letting him in first where he beelined to the kitchen and set down your things. Relief flooded his features even as he hurriedly came back to take your other bag from you.
This time you let him, the both of you falling into routine as you put the groceries away. The apartment was quiet with just the sounds of bustling about. With everything sorted, you turned to him, leaning against the counter. He nervously looked away at your scrutiny, aware of what you’d say.
“You’re being careful, right? Those dungeons are deadly, and I don’t mean because of your rank. Any hunter can be caught off guard.”
“I know, nuna.”
You hummed at his non-answer. He was avoiding your gaze, fidgeting with his hands until he noticed and hid them in his hoodie pocket. You watched him a moment longer, then reached into a side drawer.
“Here, take this.”
Immediately he looked at you with disapproval. “I’ve told you not to buy anything.”
His protests did nothing; your willpower was always far stronger when worrying. You took his hand and physically put the bottle into it.
“A health potion,” you announced calmly, ignoring him. “Pretty high grade, from what I can tell. Sip, don’t chug.”
“Nuna!”
“If you get too badly hurt,” or worse, you didn’t add, “Jinah is going to be devastated. Do not let your pride be the reason she cries.”
As expected, his shoulders deflated at your words. He nodded somewhat miserably, bandaged hand gripping the bottle.
While his head was bowed, you gently patted it and stroked his hair. Pink crept up his features, but he leaned into your touch, never one to pull away.
He and his sister were very dear to you. It wasn’t just flattery to call them your favourite neighbours; they and their mother had been the first to welcome you when you moved in.
“What should I make for dinner tomorrow?” you asked him, stepping back.
“I’m sure it’ll be delicious no matter what you make.”
You rolled your eyes at him, grinning. “I guess I’ll ask Jinah when I get there. Have you been carefully washing that new pan like I told you to?”
He also rolled his eyes now, playfully. “Yes, nuna. If you don’t believe me, feel free to inspect it.”
You nodded firmly, already thinking about recipes. “I will.”
You had a close relationship with the Sung family. The day their mother was admitted to hospital from Eternal Slumber, you decided to take the siblings under your wing.
You’d almost lived with them for two months, always on hand to console Jinah while Jinwoo took every hunter job he could to pay the bills. He’d rejected your offer of money, so you simply went around his logic and made sure you could provide for their other needs.
Whether it was cooking, cleaning or emotional support, you were there. When Jinah cried herself to sleep, you wiped her face clean and tucked her in. When Jinwoo came home with injuries, you patched him up and scolded him in equal measure.
Jinah accepted you into their life without question, desperate for comfort. You thought it would take longer for Jinwoo as he was only seven years younger than you, but after some initial resistance in the chaos of essentially losing his last parent, he had folded into your care.
You relished the opportunity to give what you’d once needed and hadn’t received, having no family to rely on yourself. You held onto hope that their mother would wake up one day, and you’d be able to present her children to her - whole, healthy and loved still.
A chime from his phone pulled his attention away.
“Another dungeon?”
He read through the notification. “Yeah, E-rank.”
Slowly, you inhaled. “I guess you’ll be missing dinner tomorrow then.”
He glanced up at you guiltily, even as a pout crested his lips. “Save me the leftovers?”
“You know it won’t last. Don’t rush the dungeon for food,” you swatted his arm gently, “I’ll make you more when you’re back.”
“Thanks, nuna!” He lifted the potion bottle. “I’ll bring it with me, I promise.”
“You better. Now be careful!”
With one last farewell, he was out the door. You frowned. Really he needed to rest up more from the last job before he took on another. Hopefully this one would result in a decent paycheck, enough for you to convince him to pause at least a week.
“That boy,” you muttered under your breath.
A familiar uneasiness settled beneath your ribs; it wouldn’t abate until he returned, so you did your best to put it aside. In the meantime, you’d cook up a feast for Jinah as the girl very much deserved.
So I did a poll to ask what otome archetypes people preferred and the resounding winner (of admittedly a small pool, shh) was yandere...
I wish I could say that was a surprise, but hey - it's a stereotype that otome lovers adore red flags for a reason. As long as it's fiction, I say: go wild!
(I personally recommend Yang from Piofiore, though he is less crazy in the sequel. I really like that, but a yandere fanatic might not.)
At least I feel better about my choices for the otome game I'm making. The poll was for research after all :)
Just starting to get back into the swing of things again. Happy New Year!
A status update for anyone interested:
I have done a little more for Sang a Lady Radiant. I was hoping the Skyhold setting would make writing easier, but it's still intimidating - I have too many ideas competing! Don't worry though, I'll get there :)
I've got some drabbles for An Ode to Univeil lined up. They just need some fine tuning before I'm happy.
I'm toying with the idea of doing some My Hero Academia drabbles as well. Mainly because I'm not sure if I can commit to a full story, but I already miss the show!
I'm also still working on my browser otome game. New question of the day: Would you rather have less text on the screen and need to click more to progress, or more text and less clicks?
Keeping in mind that there aren't really any visuals to take up other screen space! (My artwork leaves much to be desired still unfortunately, so we're sticking with the classic text-based adventure...)

As if I wasn't busy enough with work and behind on my fanfic writing, I have started an ambitious project to create my own browser otome!
There's quite a lot of moving parts and things for me to learn to be able to do this effectively - and to present the story in the way that I want it.
So far, I've spent hours studying HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Some of it I knew before, but coding is a real beast to learn.
The writing portion has been somewhat delayed while I figure out the practicalities such as how the game systems work together. Every time I look at some new coding, I think of more possibilities to try out. It's a long process but I'm enjoying it!
Originally I was going to put vague messages for if your choice changed something, like 'Your X skill has increased' or 'X likes you more', without any actual numbers. I want the game to feel more organic and flexible, sort of like DnD.
Sometimes I play otomes fully following guides because the game is so particular about choices, but then I always feel like this ruins the experience for me. I prefer my first run through to be blind, so I can see what kind of ending my natural choices would get. That doesn't work if the game is super punishing because I'd rather not waste 30 hours on a dead run.
Question of the day: If you were playing a game like this, would you want to know your character stats at all times? Would you also want to know the love interests' stats? Or would you rather go in blind for everything?
To reassure readers of Sang a Lady - I have drafted the next chapter! When I have more time (and more focus), I will go back to edit and then post it. My mind is utter mush right now from a very long week at work, and I'm frankly surprised I managed to write so much this evening.
I can't speak to the quality of the draft, which is what the editing process is for, but we have made progress! Celebrations are in order.
The winter performance begins, but Kisa is having a hard time getting into character.
---
The winter performance started with a boat.
It was only now, fighting back dread as Quartz was introduced, that Kisa realised Sou-chan was right; most of Neji-senpai's plays did include the ocean in some way.
Of course there wasn't actually any water here, but the props and lighting did wonders to simulate the glimmering waves. Some sound effects of wood creaking and gentle laps of the sea truly sold the moment as Kai-san put his foot to the half-made boat, 'stopping' it. A brighter spotlight now shone on the two of them for their opening appearance.
Her cloak hid most of her costume as planned and she chirped her lines with a youthful, innocent smile reminiscent of the Maiden from The Sleepless King. To finish, she took Kai-san's hand and danced with him all the way off the side of the stage as the music of 'Oh Rama Havenna, Oh Beloved Havenna' began.
I realised yesterday that I hadn't received a single fanfiction email since the end of August. Which, considering how many fics I follow, really should have flagged up much earlier.
My mental health has been on a bit of a roller coaster, which I kinda predicted so took a break from most tech, as mentioned in my last post. So I have been a bit distant and distracted - still, how did I not notice sooner?!
I even missed kudos and comments! (Thank you again, you're all so lovely, and I promise I won't neglect you for much longer. Just need to get my wellbeing back in order.)
Turns out all the emails were in my spam folder, which don't show properly in my mobile app. Sigh. This isn't the first time, unfortunately.
The only bright side is the pile of updates for really good fics that I can now sink my teeth into...

A very quick note to say thank you for the love everyone’s shown to the latest Sang a Lady chapter! I've been taking a short break from Tumblr and writing, as it's been a busy couple months in my personal and work life. I will come back soon though and will definitely reply to all your wonderful comments <3
I think I've finished the next chapter of Sang a Lady - I was quite eager to write this bit ;)
I just need to reread it, make some minor edits, and reply to your lovely comments first. Hopefully, I'll have time today to do that, so it should be out soon!
With the craziness of prep for Weekend Lesson, Kisa needs a breather and is drawn to Shirota's singing practise.
---
The light filtered through the classroom window and cast a glow on Shirota-senpai's pale skin, his doll-like eyes closed as he sung the English lyrics.
Kisa watched in a daze from her place hidden just outside the open door. Though her muscles cramped with tension as she tried to keep still and silent, her mind felt comfortably fuzzy and relaxed.
Shirota-senpai had complained at Neji-senpai when the song for Weekend Lesson was revealed. The different language made the Tresor's task harder, and he was not shy about sharing this gripe.
With all the drama of her Jack role and the stressful inter-class competition it had inspired, Kisa was just glad she could sneak away and listen to her senpai sing. His voice never failed to enrapture her.
A smile lifted her lips and, despite her long day, she felt soothed.

I've added a list of fics and pinned it on ny page, so hopefully it's easy access when looking for my stories.
And wow, that was a wake-up call for how many stories I've left alone for years! My new little side quest is to go back to them at some point.
Currently, I'm around halfway with the next chapter for Sang a Lady. I also have a couple of new drabbles to add to Ode to Univeil soon.
Writing short form content is so freeing. Why didn’t you guys tell me?! I kid, but seriously - before, I was always super hard on myself if I didn't do more than a certain word count!
As an aside, I've been experimenting with digital art but I'm so bad at art, help. Specifically, I'm trying to draw my original character Nanin. We'll see how far that gets! I'm trying very hard to subdue my perfectionist traits and harsh self-critism...
Art is supposed to be fun and relaxing, art is supposed to be fun and relaxing.
