bsd is a phase i don’t think i will ever get out of (fortunately or unfortunately, up to interpretation) but its become a defining part of my identity and i owe a lot to the fictional character, osamu dazai. i feel like he is one of the only characters that really resonated with me and made me feel seen, someone who does not feel human regardless of their biology because of the things they have done and the things that have been done to them. i also greatly enjoy the author osamu dazai’s works a lot and they are some of my favorite parts of japanese literature. i have read almost all, if not all, of his works and own a physical copy of a lot of them.
anyway, today is his birthday and i want to express my appreciation for this day. both me and dazai have survived another year without meeting our end by our own hands. even when we want nothing more but to die, we keep living. to find a purpose in this world? or perhaps to become a better person? regardless of why, we keep living. and sometimes we aren’t so alone. sometimes it isn’t so bad.

I don’t mean in his romantic relationships (though loverboy Dazai is real to me),but I more mean for humanity as a whole.I can’t help but think of the party scene in 15 where he asks Randou,genuinely,why anyone would hate the party he set up and how “this sort of music is popular with young people”as if he googled all this stuff the night before.As if he had to research how to socialize,how to be a kid.
I can’t help but think of Beast Dazai throwing out our Dazai’s anecdotes at Beast Oda like he’s trying to see what sticks,using a cheat code to see what works.And being so shattered when it doesn’t because he has imperical proof this works so why isn’t it working!?
I can’t help but think of his genuine surprise at Kunikida,Chuuya and Atsushi seeing trough him as if he sees himself as something totally different,beyond approach.
How he’s so intrigued with humanity’s fighting spirit,how he observes it with this scientific detachment yet it so obvious he wants to have a part in it,oblivious to the fact that he already is.Oblivious that when he tries the least is when he’s at his most human.
And I can’t help but wonder what could have possibly happened to this man,prior to even Mori that forces him to learn it all from scratch like this

The two best reasons to ship anything are:
1.Incredible deep and detailed narrative themes. The parallels that seem to hit just right, the narrative foils that they can be to each other, the intricate dynamic that's both extremely complex and easily understood. The juxtaposition between something that's harsh and undoubtedly toxic, with the softer undertones, the parts where you read in-between the lines and find a mutual feeling of loneliness from both parts, their intrinsic understanding of each other comes from the mere fact that they're each others mirrored reflections and shadows. In the end both sides will be together forever, and you as an audience can clearly see their tragedy laid out before in a path that blurs pure anguish and tender romance
