Percy & Poseidon being a cute father and son duo
Some small moments over the saga that I think built Poseidon's relationship with Percy and made my heart warm up thinking about how fond they are of each other, as I'm rereading it.
“Perseus,” Poseidon said. “Look at me.”

Poseidon gripped his trident. “In the First War, Percy, Zeus cut our father Kronos into a thousand pieces, just as Kronos had done to his own father, Ouranos.
This is from their first interaction in The Lighting Thief. I just wanted to point out how Percy didn't introduce himself, and Poseidon called him "Perseus" at first when Zeus was present, but changed it unpromptedly to "Percy" as soon as he left. Percy never told him he preferred "Percy". And he kept this little detail to himself when Zeus was around, probably bc he didn't want to show any form of familiarity towards Percy in front of him, so he wouldn't wonder how Poseidon knew that. But how did Poseidon know that? Did he manage to steal a few moments over the years to check on Percy, and discover small details about him, such as this? Bc it really is such a small thing, but it's so cute that he knows that. A hint that he might care more about Percy than he has been able to show so far in the story.
In arts and crafts, I started a marble bust of Poseidon, but it started looking like Sylvester Stallone, so I ditched it.
From The Sea of Monsters.
So your honor, one thing about Percy is that he really tries to be a good son even when his dad is a freaking god and their relationship is much different than the average father&son experience. Look at him, trying to make a fucking bust of his dad. Next thing you know he'll be asking to die for him in a war bc he thinks this is what being a good son is like when your father is the sea god :/
“All right,” she said. “How do we get to that ship?”
“Hermes said my father would help.”
“Well then, Seaweed Brain? What are you waiting for?”
I’d always had a hard time calling on my father, or praying, or whatever you want to call it, but I stepped into the waves.
“Urn, Dad?” I called. “How’s it going?”
“Percy!” Annabeth whispered. “We’re in a hurry!”
From The Sea of Monsters. Btw this was the first time Percy called Poseidon "dad", tho it wasn't exactly to his face.
Also, I love this boy so much, Poseidon is the luckiest god alive for having him as a son.
I couldn’t hear them, but I could see they were singing. As their mouths moved, their faces morphed into people I knew - my mom, Poseidon, Grover, Tyson, Chiron. All the people I most wanted to see.
From The Sea of Monsters, when Percy sees the sirens (tho he can't hear them). He wants to see his dad 😭😭😭
Could an Olympian parent turn against his half-blood child? Would it sometimes be easier just to let them die? If there were ever any half-bloods who needed to worry about that, it was Thalia and me. I wondered if maybe I should've sent Poseidon that seashell pattern tie for Father's Day after all.
from The Titans Curse. Speaks volumes of how weird the relationships between kids and their immortal parents can be (something to be said about how much credit Percy gives Poseidon just for not killing him... My boy is so messed up in the head). But it's really cute that Percy thought about giving him a gift for father's day, he's just the cutest kid ever
I was staring at the shield when I noticed a strange sound—water gurgling—and I realized there was something new in the room. At the back of the cabin was a big basin of gray sea rock, with a spout like the head of a fish carved in stone. Out of its mouth burst a stream of water, a saltwater spring that trickled into the pool. The water must've been hot, because it sent mist into the cold winter air like a sauna. It made the room feel warm and summery, fresh with the smell of the sea.
I stepped up to the pool. There was no note attached or anything, but I knew it could only be a gift from Poseidon.
I looked into the water and said, "Thanks, Dad."
The surface rippled. At the bottom of the pool, coins shimmered—a dozen or so golden drachma. I realized what the fountain was for. It was a reminder to keep in touch with my family.
From The Titans Curse. This was really thoughtful of Poseidon. I wonder what made him think of that. Did Sally pray to him, talking about her worries? Or he just keeps an eye on them more often than Percy realizes?
Something about his way of trying to be part of their lives man :/ It really gets me.
"Well," Zeus grumbled. "Perhaps. But the monster at least must be destroyed. We have agreement on that?"
A lot of nodding heads.
It took me a second to realize what they were saying. Then my heart turned to lead.
"Bessie? You want to destroy Bessie?"
"Mooooooo!" Bessie protested.
My father frowned. "You have named the Ophiotaurus Bessie?"
"Dad," I said, "he's just a sea creature. A really nice sea creature. You can't destroy him."
Also from the Titans Curse. This is the official first time Percy calls Poseidon "dad" to his face. Pulling out the big guns to defend Bessie huh.
She blinked. "Homework." Then she seemed to understand the look on my face. "Oh, honey, that's just Paul—um, Mr. Blofis. He's in my writing seminar."
"Mr. Blowfish?"
"Blofis.
//
Paul was looking back and forth between us, trying to read our expressions. Finally he stepped forward. “Hi, I’m Paul Blofis.”
Poseidon raised his eyebrows as they shook hands. “Blowfish, did you say?”
“Ah, no. Blofis, actually.”
“Oh, I see,” Poseidon said. “A shame. I quite like blowfish. I am Poseidon.”
Percy in the Titan's Curse vs Poseidon in the Battle of the Labyrinth. They're never beating the clone allegations :/
We parked on a ridge overlooking the Atlantic. The sea is always one of my favorite places, but today it was especially nice—glittery green and smooth as glass, as though my dad was keeping it calm just for us.
My dad, by the way, is Poseidon. He can do stuff like that.
From The Last Olympian. Percy considering his dad might spend his time making sure the ocean is nice just so he can have a good date says a lot about their dynamic and how much credit Percy gives Poseidon
"Tyson!" he roared. "Well done, my son. And Percy—" His face turned stern. He wagged his finger at me, and for a second I was afraid he was going to zap me. "I even forgive you for sitting on my throne. You have saved Olympus!"
He held out his arms and gave me a hug. I realized, a little embarrassed, that I'd never actually hugged my dad before. He was warm—like a regular human—and he smelled of a salty beach and fresh sea air.
When he pulled away, he smiled kindly at me. I felt so good, I'll admit I teared up a little. I guess until that moment I hadn't allowed myself to realize just how terrified I had been the last few days.
"Dad—"
"Shhh," he said. "No hero is above fear, Percy. And you have risen above every hero. Not even Hercules—"
THIS SCENE MEANS THE WORLD TO ME BTW THAT'S MY BOY 😭😭😭
I'll be normal about them one day (maybe? probably?) but it won't be soon
