A little comic for “Poseidon, God of the Sea” by Nikita Gill. I recently bought her book Great Goddesses and fell in love with it.
so you’re telling me this whole time hades, poseidon or zeus couldve just banged a dude?? imagine another big 3 kid rolls into camp and they’re like “oh ur dad broke the oath… which means you’re gonna have to pay for it…” and this kids like “lol which dad?”
no oath broken. loophole of the century.
I had a dream where Poseidon doesn’t officially claim Percy till after The Last Olympian, instead he sends him a message like “I’m your father but I’m not supposed to have kids so here the plan…” and they proceed to spend the next 5 books attempting to gaslight Zeus and Hades into thinking Percy’s the child of one of his other children but never officially say which one so they can’t get in trouble when the truth come out. Like the lightning thief quest? Triton showed up and asked him to go.
Okay so I was thinking about this today and like this could potentially be so funny?? Like it’s an open secret on Olympus but so long as Poseidon doesn’t openly/officially claim Percy, plausible deniability. So eventually the other Olympians get in on it. During the sea of monsters quest Hermes casual mentions to Zeus “oh he might be my son but I’m not sure yet, I’m looking into it.” And shit like that. Nobody actually claims Percy cause they all know that’s Poseidon’s boy but they just… causally say he could be their son when around Zeus. As a joke. Zeus is so done with all of them but he can’t do anything about it.
among us (2026) spoilers
good thing their hands are already red

for all of you:
One of my favorite deeply stupid linguistic distinctions in English tbh:
"I will be there shortly" and "I will be there briefly" mean pretty much completely different things. "I will be there shortly" means "I will be there in a short amount of time from now." But "I will be there briefly" means "I will be there, but I'm not going to stay for very long."
As adjectives, brief vs short can be used as synonyms pretty often, though by no means in all cases. A message can be equally described as brief or short without much difference in meaning. But if you're describing a person, and you said she's very brief, it would mean that she's concise and probably pretty brusque in how she talks, while if she's very short you're talking about her height; the qualities are unrelated. But as adverbs, short(ly) vs brief(ly) convey different information in yet another way.
When he heard the death rattle, Gilgamesh moaned
like a dove. His face grew dark. “Beloved,
wait, don't leave me. Dearest of men,
don't die, don't let them take you from me.”
(from Stephen Mitchell's translation of Gilgamesh)
Look, Percy usually isn't this petty, even with monsters... He's a chill guy, seriously.
But the Minotaur is a special case. Subscribe and turn on notifications to get exclusive content every time this little shit reforms and Percy sends him back to Tartarus. Now also broadcasting on Hephaestus TV!
(Apollo, obviously, is a loyal subscriber of his channel from day 1)

I'm not necessarily against the idea of Percy losing the mark of Achilles. I just hate the way it was done in canon.
Not only is it incredibly stupid (,a Greek curse so it can't transfer to Roman territory, really? If so why doesn't he just get it back after he enters greek territory again?) but also just so...𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨. getting that curse was a journey and a half. Percy was quite literally at risk of 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴. Soul and all. It should not have been that easy to lose.
If Percy 𝘩𝘢𝘥 to lose the curse of Achilles,I would have liked if it A)was done in a way that has higher stakes and makes more sense. And B) happened later on in SON and not in the beginning of it.
Okay because one thing I really liked about this book, was that every member of our trio had a death flag hanging over their heads.( Frank being told that he would die holding his match stick+ fearing that Thanatos would kill him anyway because he was supposed to die when he was a child. Hazel being an escape soul on a mission to free the god whose entire job it is to capture escaped souls and send them back to the underworld. Ella's prophecy that foretells a son of Neptune drowning).
As @bayetea so aptly puts it
son of neptune is a story about death and the terror of its inevitability. the gang was in a state of highly personalized abject mortal peril for most of that book and there is a very feasible alternate universe in which the quest to alaska "succeeds" and not a single one of them makes it back alive
And I love that. It's a wonderful writing choice that adds so many stakes. I would have loved the added narrative symmetry of all three of them being cursed as well(hazel with her jewels bringing misfortune. Frank's life being tied to the firewood. Percy's Achilles curse)
And idk it would have been neat,if after the cat is out of the bag and both hazel and frank have revealed their curses and respective weaknesses—percy revealed his mortal point to them,as an added show of trust. It's a"fair's fair" situation. It would have been a sweet meaningful moment. Plus it could probably have brought some interesting annabeth feels in the next book.

based off this still
lets call in sick tomorrow and go to the natural history museum
One of the other reasons I've really come around to the midi-chlorians as a concept (the Force being interactions between magic space bugs that have flooded this particular galaxy and every living thing in it) is that my family has long had many discussions about the midi-chlorians potentially also "explaining" droids and the computer situation.
Because SW computers are apparently incredibly simple and/or one-purpose (as a result of the original movie having been made in the 70s), but droids are incredibly complex, capable, independent, remarkably emotional, irrational, free-willed, etc., compared to other technology in this universe. SW writers can't seem to decide whether or not droids are fairly basic machines or fully sapient beings.
So, one of our solution headcanons has generally been that: midi-chlorians REALLY like feeding on or making their home in various technological materials required for computers. Any sufficiently advanced technology BECOMES magical, whether you want it to or not, because the magic space bugs really like infesting these machines. And since the magic space bugs hold the memories of the cycle of life of countless living beings in this galaxy, etc., you could snappily phrase the inevitable sapience of complex computers in this particular galaxy as: "Droids are accidental composite Force ghosts, actually."
So, in SW (in this headcanon), if you DON'T want your advanced technology to randomly develop a personality and capabilities beyond its programming, you have to design your complex computers BIG with all of these bulky, heavy anti-midi-chlorian safely measures. Maybe tech factories are best built on 1) planets with no prior history of life (and thus midi-chlorians) or 2) planets the midi-chlorians hate for some reason, because that produces the most reliable products, and you can try to seal up a computer or a droid's systems as best you can before sending them out into the magic-bug-flooded galaxy.
So, you can have reliable, non-sapient complex computers in big space stations or communications stations or big ships, but that's not very portable! If you want advanced portable tech, you need a droid, and the midi-chlorians are almost inevitably going to get in there (especially once any repairs are done by cracking them open) and get comfortable (it's SO hard to get them out fully again), and so your space navigation machine or translation device is inevitably going to develop 1) sapience, 2) a personality, and 3) some kind of mental illness because droids are inherently pretty diverse, unstable lifeforms put to difficult and unpleasant purposes. One way of dealing with the inevitable infestation is just to design your droids accepting that they will develop some form of sentience &/ sapience, and putting in some safety rails in the hardware and software accordingly.
Because of this, being an IT person in the SW galaxy sucks even more than usual, because someone will call you up complaining that their household terminal is acting up, and you have to try to figure out if and how to explain that the computer has started running itself partially on an infestation of microscopic magical space bugs and is inventing new processes and programming accordingly. So, the solutions are basically: 1) wipe most of the system, replace a few key parts, and accept the loss (knowing that this will happen again in a few years), 2) buy a brand new machine and be REALLY careful about any file transfers if any, OR 3) give the computer some cheap wheels and a way to communicate to see if that makes the baby ghost now possessing the machine calm down enough to be persuaded to keep doing the damn job.
It's impossible to watch MP100 without having Mob in your top 3 he is simply the protagonist ever he is The Character cocaine. ONE just arrived and said hello here is Shigeo Kageyama (shadow/hidden depths pun in his SURNAME just so you know) he is an autistic middle schooler who is a living hydrogen bomb and he has a severe complex related to his ability to hurt others. He doesn't let himself have needs or emotions really and he explodes over it. It makes him super guilty. He also has intrusive thoughts and complex feelings and lots of grief and anger and resentment but that doesn’t make him less of a person. He is good not out of a "lack of negativity" but because he actively puts an effort on being better than he was yesterday. He is incredibly kind and forgives so much because he wants to think everybody can change, and so can he. He is quiet and has a soft voice. He can destroy people verbally. He doesn't get social cues but he gets others' issues pretty quick. He loves his little brother. He stares at clouds. He is bug eyed and has huge round cheeks. He has a very interesting inner world despite people's claims and is very thoughtful. He is anemic. He is a bit lame in the best way. His one dream was holding his crush's hand and walking her home and that thought alone made him blush furiously. He likes ugly clothes and cats. His character arc ends with him accepting he can be loved for his nastiest parts. And you say I'm not supposed to imprint on him or perhaps take him under my fluffy feathers like a chicken receiving some random chicks. Its just not possible
How do you not dedicate your life to something that looks like this
everyone's like wehhhhh why doesn't doctor house gets suuuueeed! like my man. literally every patient he sees is someone that's been trying to find a diagnosis for ages. i could live with a little medical malpractice if it were coming from someone ready to break into my home to look for allergens and not simply half heartedly listen to me before suggesting I lose weight and take ages of back and forth arguing to order a single test
"it's medical malpractice" have u ever been a doctor? most medicine is malpractice. let the man limp around chewing vicodin doing 50 invasive tests please
Once Taub (derogatory) derisively said about a patient with unexplained chronic pain “7 doctors couldn’t find anything wrong with him, what does that mean?” and House replied without even thinking “it means they’re idiots” and proceed to work his ass off to diagnose the patient Taub wanted to write off as a faker or something. If a doctor had said that when that patient was ME, I wouldn’t dream of suing them in a million years
Edit to add: i dont know what it says about me that i had to look up rouge the bat but can draw hugh laurie from memory

I can very much relate to this and all jokes aside, I know the reason why I read more fanfics than original novels is because I’m here for the characters I already know, love, and am passionate about. with original novels, I don’t know who these characters are, I’m not passionate enough about getting to know them. which is the same reason why I don’t read fics with ocs either. which is not to say original novels and ocs are bad. but personally, I’m only here for my comfort fictional men being put in Situations
I've seen other people do this and it seems like fun so:
Enter names, spin wheel to pick a random winner. Customize look and feel, save and share wheels.
If you don't know who that is, you can spin again. If you get the same character, they're multitasking c:
You're an Ensign newly assigned to a ship with these people as Captain and First Officer. How fucked are you?
I'm in good hands
We're making it out alive, but only thanks to the Captain
We're making it out alive, but only thanks to the First Officer
Half the crew isn't coming back
We're all dead
We don't even make it out of spacedock
