idk why i'm thinking about this in relation to modern aus. i support all headcanons especially in modern aus about how these characters could be related to each other. but i don't think the big 3 characters (percy nico thalia) think of each other as cousins nor do they have a sibling relationship. or they do and they don't. idk. i think the antagonism and distrust and recognition of the self through the other are very significant. even though that is a mirror of the actual sibling relationships of their fathers, percy's relationships with thalia and nico defy easy description and that's a credit to the writing, as well as these relationships informing each other without copying the same arc. these dynamics to me are at their richest A. when percy is having dreams and visions about thalia and nico B. when percy is suspecting that one of them will throw him under the bus to get what they want C. when the girls are fightingggg.

adding to that i don't always mind that hazel gets excluded from the big 3 kids because the text never once frames her that way (which is its own issue but not the fandom's fault) and bianca died before any character could identify her as one but swapping thalia for jason is insane. like actually. what is he doing here.

Imagine if the gods actually need to consume ambrosia and nectar not to starve (even if they won't die of starvation) and the first sign of a demigod straying too close to divinity is that mortal food is not enough for them and they start feeling hungry all the time until they finally get a bit of ambrosia or nectar

the fact that as a mortal he still has a limited amount he can consume without dying vs

the idea of his hunger getting bigger and bigger until the amount he has to consume not to feel the effects of starvation is genuinely dangerous even for him

Idk I just like the idea that you can only get so close to divinity bf it becomes a bad thing and it starts clashing with your mortality. If your power is on the same level as a god (points at the akhlys scene) then maybe you should start to consider whether your mortal body can stand it without consequences.

In Chalice of the Gods we learn that the nectar demigods consume is diluted, bc consuming it pure would kill them immediately

So in this au, the fact that he only has access to diluted nectar might be contributing to his feelings of insatiability.

Now imagine a scene where he unknowingly drinks the unblended nectar from a god and not only does he not die, but also, this is the best he has felt in weeks.

And the god in question is just looking at him like 🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪🫪 bc they low-key thought they were about to see him die but now they've been hit with the knowledge that this kids is low-key on the brink of becoming a god all by himself...

(but then after an hour of finally feeling well and normal again Percy starts feeling sick bc his barely-mortal-but-still-mortal body wasn't really made for consuming unblended nectar. So he ends up vomiting everything up and going back to feeling hungry)
