Honestly even the sterile crops thing is not evil in and of itself! It’s a safety mechanism to ensure that crops engineered to outcompete all other local plants don’t open pollinate and end up invasively spreading. What is predatory is the pricing structures & aggressive litigation that attacks farmers for profit!

I played Talisman to DEATH when I was in high school. I loved it so much, I'd play it solo, simulating other players. It remains my son, Ryan's, favorite game of all time, even though we both know better. But I love that Talisman exists. It gave a younger version of me, who was hurting, abused, lonely, and so afraid, a place to escape for hours at a time, when I needed that so very much.

Yes. Reading excessively as a child for a lot of us was a form of escapism. But part of the reason so many of us struggle to read now is because we based our entire taste in reading on what helped us escape, but as we get older and our needs changed, a lot of us never adapted our reading tastes. So we keep trying to read YA fiction and it just doesn’t hit the way it used to and we assume it’s because we can’t read like we used to, but the reality is that we need a new genre of liturature to suit our new life experiences and mature taste.

I love wool. A few years ago, I started switching out all my socks and boxers for wool, and I will never go back to any other fabric or fiber. Sheep are amazing. Thank you for the gift of your wonderful wool, you magnificent sheeps.

Have you tried a wool comforter yet? We switched to a Merino duvet with linen cover and holy hell it is the best thing ever for hot and sweaty sleepers - warm and breathable and neither of us overheat any more. Plus no feather allergies, and the heavier wool gives it a semi weighted blanket feeling - much deeper sleeps!

It took me 46 years to realize how consistently I had been emotionally abused as a child and adult, until I pulled away from my abuser and stopped letting him keep me in a toxic relationship. It’s never too late to reclaim your life from the people who hurt you, because you deserve to be happy and to live your best life.

So I just watched the Kal Penn series on The Giant Beast That is the Global Economy, and this reminds be on the section about corruption. And how in the efforts to crack down on money laundering, yes, they reduced mid-level money laundering... but actually ended up handing over more power to those who are doing the world-class money laundering, by essentially giving the richest of the rich ownership of the banks. This seems to me not so much evidence that the wealthy are buying their way into universities (duh), but that what we think of as wealthy - celebrity wealthy - has been squeezed down into ‘middle class’ by the obscene wealth of the truly rich. Because the “rich person” way to get into university is to make a major donation. But what counts as a worthy donation is way outside the realm of even people with this kind of money. Which is why they were cheating, and why it is a scandal - rather than the hush hush smooth entry of those with ‘real’ money
