It is time for the ban on assault weapons to begin again
I can't stress enough how much I miss StumbleUpon
StumbleUpon once sent me to a supercut of Lion King, Lion King 1 1/2, and Lion King II, the main edit being that the scenes of Lion King and Lion King 1 1/2 were interspersed so that they happened in the order they actually happened.
stumbleupon not existing anymore can be directly traced to a dramatic decline in my mental health, I could do a thesis on it.
bestie stumbleupon very much still exists its just called cloudhiker now. i use it all the time.
mini compilation of suggestions from the replies:
The Bored Button - "Press the Bored Button and be bored no more."
The Useless Web
Cloudhiker - "Discover the most interesting, weird and awesome websites of the Internet" (not really a rebrand, it's a different person running it but they have the same intention in mind)
Astronaut.io - "These videos come from YouTube. They were uploaded in the last week and have titles like DSC 1234 and IMG 4321. They have almost zero previous views. They are unnamed, unedited, and unseen (by anyone but you)."
Marginalia - "This is an independent DIY search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and attempts to show you sites you perhaps weren't aware of in favor of the sort of sites you probably already knew existed."

Teaching kids to cook, so good! My parents did this with me as a kid, a little at a time. I was a bit older than this kid before I was doing this kind of cooking, but only by a few years.
It's good to do! It takes the fear out of cooking, teaches good skills, and fosters independence.
You can tell by the cuts where the parents had to intervene a little bit, like when the egg flip was tricky and every time the kid stood up ready to throw the bowl like a discus, but I think itâs really nice how they gave space to cook independently while still supervising for safety.
That's how you teach independence!
able bodied people will freak out when they see an ambulatory mobility aid user not using their aids but won't question it when a hiker only uses a walking stick or trekking poles when they're hiking. they're the same thing.
post got too big and is leaving the target audience. petrifying.
i feel like people don't understand this post so i'm gonna break it down for you:
trekking poles are devices that improve your ability to go where you wanna go, but you don't use them all the time
mobility aids are devices that improve your ability to go where you wanna go, but some people don't use them all the time
i use my crutches the exact same way a hiker uses their trekking poles and walking sticks. Walking around can be hard for me because of balance issues, and if i stand for too long it begins to hurt, the crutches help make that less so.
hikers use trekking poles to keep their balance and help them move up steep hills, they'll use a walking stick to take some of the pressure off of their legs.
are we all caught up now?
have you ever used a car, bus, bicycle, or any form of transportation to travel a distance you couldn't walk? or even a distance you could, but not as fast or easily as you would like?

I thought this was a joke until I read the description
WHAT HTE FCUK
Itâs one of my favorite pieces at the Renwick. Itâs a solid block of mahogany and you can see the impression of knobs under the cloth.

The highest privilege of owning a business is getting to say "actually, I don't want your money, please take it back, and you're banned," to customers who behave rudely to my staff.
Yep, there was a problem, but you don't need to be an asshole about it. Yes, I do give my staff Labor Day off. You might have to wait a day or two for an answer, because I don't treat my people like Amazon.
And if me saying, "Actually, this person acted like an ass, I've added them to our banned customers list," is a problem for anybody else, um. I'm proud of not letting people be rude to my staff, so. đ¤ˇ
Don't rouse me from my medical leave. I'm grouchy.
We have a cat cafe that just made a polite announcement about banning people for invading the staff areas that say "Staff Only" bc they wanted to pet the kitties (that went in there to be left alone)
It basically went "these areas are clearly marked, and we have cameras. We don't like to be mean, but you are now banned from the shop and the local adoption lists"
Not even a teeny bit rude. Small businesses putting their foot down and having boundaries is so wonderful to see.
I'm glad y'all have the ability and willingness to do that, and don't treat your folks like robots đ§Ą
I worked for Wells Fargo, RBS, and Ditech, three of the shittiest places to work in finance.
I will never, ever ask my employees to eat shit for a rude customer. I did it for a decade. My people don't have to put up with people all-capsing at them. Fuck that noise.
That cat cafe sounds rad as fuck.
Once I was helping a friend help a young, disabled, homeless trans man and we were trying to get him placed in a domestic violence shelter. When my friend called she was told that of COURSE they couldnât take him, heâs a MAN. She then found out that they wouldnât take trans women either âfor our other clientâs comfort.â
If that isnât a perfect example of how trans people will always be gendered by transphobes in the way that allows them to harm us the most, then I donât know what is.
i feel like this very succinctly describes the trans masculine experience and the ways ppl will just openly gaslight us abt our experiences with oppression and discrimination.
and itâs fascinating bc like. a trans man in a situation like this is given the exact same âoptionâ as a trans woman in this situation: call and ask. and both are being denied, thus negating this âoption.â so what âoptionâ is this person talking about that trans men have but trans women donât? the âoptionâ to detransition to access an emergency space for victims fleeing domestic violence? do you really see that as an option? because i could have sworn we agreed that expecting a trans person to detransition in order to access life-saving care of any kind is explicitly transphobic. or does that not apply to trans men bc deep down you agree with terfs and see us as âgender traitorsâ and therefore deserving of being rejected for help usually reserved for women? or perhaps you think dysphoria for trans men is incidental and couldnât possibly be as severe as a trans womanâs so therefore detransitioning to access care should be an easy decision because it will allegedly cause minimal distress? the other option is that youâre just stupid and at this point ngl for some of yâall iâm kinda leaning toward that one.
