The day poll I did for this was very interesting and I kind of used it as a base for how I should expand the options.

Morticia : very good, very dramatic

Gomez : I love him, your honor

Wednesday : a bit obnoxious, but that is just how she is, honestly very engaging

Pugsley : I always got the impression they were very close in age so I am confusion but he was cute

Thing : 10/10

Fester : goofier than expected, took me a couple of scenes but I approve (shouldn’t he be Latino, tho?)

Lurch : wasn’t really present :(

the way she was literally just a helpless pawn for everybody who had more power than her (which was everyone) for her entire life until she became the evil queen which, oh, was just another manipulated move made for her by rumple to serve his own ends.

not to track everything back to swan queen, but besides daniel, i think emma is literally the first person in regina’s life to fight for her happiness (maybe to care about it at all). we know henry sr loved his daughter but he was a pretty useless parent, scared of cora himself, an enabler who tried to brush off his daughter’s severe trauma and distress instead of facing it.

for emma to say <i>you can have happiness. i know it doesn’t seem like it but you just have to fight</i> is HUGE, for regina to hear that validation when her own mother told her she’ll ‘never be happy’ because she ‘doesn’t know how’ is enormous, let alone for emma to continue <i>and hey if you won’t, i will</i> because who the fuck has ever fought for regina’s happiness before? who? nobody. 

emma swan, the golden shining symbol of heroism, fights tooth and nail for regina’s happiness. throws her own soul to the darkness without a second thought to save her life. defends her and advises her and validates her, supports her and listens to her and resuces her time and time again. to emma, this is just what she does because regina deserves it, because she can’t bear the thought of regina in pain or unhappy. to regina this is a fucking miracle, this is unheard of, and to come from the saviour herself…

Her season one Dealing-with-Regina face comes back, trying to parse the lies from real motives. Curious puppy head tilt at the unexpected show of sexual power. It’s the same sort of wary, defensive, “I’m listening but ready for anything” look she has when Henry first shows up in her apartment and he’s pouring himself juice. It’s the face she gives to Gold.

But before? Before! That initial reaction, before she comes back to herself…that’s what my face did when I saw Regina on the desk. “Holy hotness from hell…”

There are many things you can explain away or tell me are unintentional. But this right here will always tell me that the sexual subtext between these two in season one was carefully orchestrated and acted. I call bullshit based on this and “forbidden fruit” every time.

It’s my headcanon that before Emma realized who she was dealing with, when she was a quiet “hi” and open stares on the porch or she tried to share how she didn’t want to be alone on her birthday, defenses peculiarly low, Regina picked up on her attraction to her like a shark with blood. I think she knew she had this tool in her arsenal with Emma, and she tinged their interactions with sex for this very purpose.

Her body language, tone of voice, the positions of the players (one walking in to find her propped up like a commanding delicious dish, chin rising to meet them), the opposite party at once wary and curious…the only real difference is that the gender of Regina’s target has changed. That is the only reason that this scene is “questionable subtext” and not clear seductive manipulation. Emma is not a man.

The scene with Graham is slightly more overt (as a velvet gown, roaring fire, and Lana’s less restricted physicality when portraying the Queen will do) but they are the same method, tried and true.

this post has been haunting me for months (and the subjects in terms of regina’s weaponised sexuality way, way longer) and i had to get it out. so here, a character study inspired by and based on all of the above:
