Love your stuff. I see you everyday on my Tumblr home page.
Also like Compton man. I love him. I love seeing him regain confidence through Comptons cook off like yes you can face the world and three bees talking to you again.
Like have you ever considered like Compton's cook-off as a metaphor? the Psychonauts like with those ingredients as Agents so eager to be brutalized for a good end product?
How he's responsible for inspiring some of these agents who come and go and die in the field for an organization he helped start.
Like imagining Compton being forced to watch as his cool friend group operation turns into a spy organization with dangerous missions and hierarchy and responsibility over people's lives and how the organization sends secret agents out and those agents might die on their missions.
And Compton can't stop the thing he was a part of starting. He's responsible for this and even though it's all for the greater good, people are being killed and he's expected to be taking a leadership role (As an original member).
And then theres the ingredients. I felt bad for what I was doing to them. But there also so positive about the whole thing I could see it causing some guilt over how Compton wouldn't be happy with the dangerousness of the current psychonauts.
He barely does anything during the beginning rounds and he believed himself so incapable of doing it right he doesn't even try. And in the end he's back in control and he's just clean up now. So functional.
I dunno I have many thoughts. May your day and week be purposefull and your well of creativity and positive energy never run dry.
Thatâs a really interesting perspective on the cook off!! I think that layered in with the fact the judges are all Psychonauts leaders makes for a good read of another source of Comptonâs anxieties alongside judgement & the overwhelming sounds of animalsâ/peoplesâ thoughts: the responsibilities he has (or should have) as a founder.
Now Iâm thinking about the fact that he has always wanted to help the unfortunate in the ways he was able to, and must feel like heâs failed at that consistently⌠he feels like heâs a danger to himself and others so heâs stuck not being able to do anything but watch others try and do what he must feel heâs obliged to be doing.
Comptonâs Cook Off is like an onion⌠layersâŚ
Thank you for the kind words as well!

In case you were not aware, Izuku does, in fact, have a quirk.
A skin-contact quirk plus One for All should produce interesting results, no?
Bcus ur love hurts u little monster
I started reading BNHA on August 5th and caught up to chapter 322 on the 18th. Not counting weekends, since I didnât read at all on them, I read 322 chapters in ten days.
I regret nothing BNHA is good as fuck
Remember that whole âwhat if someone sees meâ thing from when Annabeth and Percy went on that love ride when they were 12? Percy does and sets out for revenge when he and Annabeth start dating.
Annabeth: I want to go to the restaurant-
Percy: but what if someone sees me with you?
Annabeth: what?
Percy: that would be so embarrassing
Annabeth: you just told the barista we were dating unprompted
Percy: so embarrassing. Like how you didnât want to be seen with me on that love ride when we were 12-
Annabeth: oh my gods
I love petty Percy. Let him remember all his girlfriendâs slights against him.
Annabeth: why are you being weird? Just hold my hand, you dweeb-
Percy: but IF SOMEONE SEES ME-
Annabeth: Iâll tell them that you got lost and weâre looking for your real girlfriend
I just enjoy him teasing Annabeth tbh
Percy: you have to sit over there
Annabeth: why
Percy: Piper might see us sitting next to each other-
Annabeth: not this again
Percy: -and that would just be so embarrassing
Piper: wat
Annabeth: stop it. we were 12
Percy: my reputation is on the line
Annabeth: you know I was right, though? do you remember that part?
Piper: whatâs happening
Annabeth: they literally filmed us on that ride and broadcasted it on Olympus. You canât be bitter when my concerns were literally-
Percy: you dare underestimate my bitterness?
Piper: you two are the weirdest couple I know
Donât let him ever forget this sin committed against him lol
Annabeth: are you ready?
Percy: Iâm so nervous. What if someone sees us and thinks weâre together?
Annabeth: that would be a shame
Annabeth: for that to happen
Annabeth: on our wedding day
Percy: maybe we shouldnât have invited so many people
*procrastinates happily* remembers that i have Responsibilities *procrastinates uneasily*
So, I canât remember for sure what Sally did with Medusaâs head. I think she wrote in her letter to Percy something very vague about her getting rid of it after Gabeâs disappearance, but no real details.
And It was a spoil of war so I donât think it would just disappear on itâs own, and it seems kind of dangerous to just throw out. However, Percy did give the nemean lionâs pelt as an offering so she could have done that. Perhaps she offered it to Hades as a thank you for returning herâŚ
âŚor, my personal favorite theory, she just put it back in the box and sent it to the gods again. Zeus is up on Olympus LIVID that he has received Medusaâs head in a box twice and Poseidon is just there like âOh, you thought Perseus took after me?â
Tbh it would have been a funny gag if Medusaâs head getting sent back and forth between them was a running gag. Like, Percy is in the middle of a fight and Hermes pops up to hand him a box, so he just opens it and turns his enemies to stone before calmly putting it back and just handing it over to Hermes again. On the night of that winter council meeting, Hermes interrupts to whisper something in Zeus ear and hands him the box as Percy is just :D
Whenever he meets new gods like Aphrodite or Apollo, they hand him the box and Percy always, always finds a way to get it back to Olympus. It isnât even a huge plotline or anything, but it appears once every book. idk why I find it so funny, but yeah. That would have been fun lol.

So... What is the Nico-Castor relationship like? Since Nico still has somewhat of a crush on Percy, but he brought Castor back, and you said he and Percy were kinda like his camp parents back at Camp Half-Blood. It sounds complicated.
...oh. I just realized how much you are all going to hate me for this. Sooooo. Um. Just as some quick background, for this new fic Iâm playing with the idea of having multiple POVs bc there are just so many storylines happening. One of which is Nicoâs and I havenât 100% committed to his role in all of this, but I have been doing some test-writing in this regard. Below is something I played with and I feel like it does a good job explaining Castor and Nicoâs relationship as a whole.
A dating service where matching is based on peopleâs search history exists. Youâre a serial killer. You go on a date with a writer.
Serial Killer: metaphorically, if you were to kill someone, how would you do it?
Writer: Air shot between the toes, itâll look like a heart attack.
Serial Killer who is obviously in love already: *sucks in a breath* ok
Writer: how long would it take to die if you were to potentially stab someone in the guts
Serial killer: anywhere from 2 to 30 minutes
Writer, already bringing a ring out: *shaking* thanks
A++ addition
Writer: *shows the serial killer the murder scene theyâre writing* babe, iâm not sure if this would actually work?
Serial killer: *kisses writer on the forehead and leaves, comes back later, a suspicious scent of blood coming off them* it works baby, youâre doing great
I LOVE THIS
Oh no, murder comedy is my jam
I love this, I love all of this, but quick question, does the author know? Like are they aware that their significant other is a serial killer or do they just think that they have a morbid sense of humor? Itâd be even funnier if the author had no fucking clue, like how Aurthur Conan Doyle was apparently stupidly gullible, and on top of it theyâre a horror or crime novelist. Like the serial killer works at a butcher shop or something so itâs completely normal for them to come home smelling like blood, no murders going on here, no sirey. Just my darling coming back home from a long day at work.
Now fast forward a bit and the author has managed to get their first book published, with loving support from the serial killer who helped them fine tune all the murder scenes, and itâs a big hit. Enough so that a detective with the local police department has noticed some disturbing similarities to several active cases, including details that were never released to the press. Obviously he brings this up to his superior and convinces him that thereâs something to the theory, but itâs all circumstantial right now. He stakes out the authorâs home and is super convinced that the author is the murderer, but they donât seem to do anything??? Like they literally are at the house all day, thatâs it. Most they do is leave for groceries.
So you get this dynamic of the serial killer mining the author for creative murder schemes, the author being lovingly encouraged by the serial killer, and finally the detective who is just so sure that the author is the killer and that if he sticks it out long enough heâll FINALLY have proof.
Plot twist, The serial killer and detective use to go out so it gets sub what personal.Â
âYou need to stop seeing them. I think they are a serial killer.â
Serial killer breaths in. âLook-â

THE ORIGINAL POST HOW DID I GET SO LUCKY
Oh my god I would watch/read the hell out of this shit
Jaune: *Opens door* Aight, Imma head out
Everyone else in the submarine: *Crushed by water noises*
Once Percy jokingly prays for Poseidon to come to this parent function at New Rome or something and Poseidon... actually comes and everyone's like,,, WHAT THE HELL WHY IS POSEIDON HERE?????!!!
omg amazing.
Also, Percy would 100% regret this. I like to think he didnât even technically invite him. Heâs just rambling in his prayers like âI bet Professor Foyer would stop giving me shit if you showed upâ and Poseidon (who has gotten numerous complaints about Professor Foyer via prayers in the past) is just like âletâs give it a whirlâ and shows up. The following then happened:
Instead of a Camp Swap how about Hera just kidnaps both Jason and Percy at the same time, wipes their memories, and puts them somewhere in like the midwest or the south together.Â
Without memories or any context of who the hell they are, these two demigod legends try to fumble their way back to their respective camps (also while figuring out where exactly that is and which one to go first) all the while monsters chase them going âfinally revenge is mine!â and these two lovable amnesiacs go âis this one here for you or for me?â
For conflict, letâs sprinkle some misunderstanding that the Roman/Greek camp kidnapped their respective camp leaders and they try to duke it out somewhere in Florida only for Jason and Percy to show up and be like hey do any of you know who we are because weâve been arguing over it since Utah.
I feel like at some point one of the monsters mentions one or both of their names, but didnât make it clear who was who before dying.
So since then they have been arguing over who is Percy and who is Jason based on how the monster said the name (which is kinda subjective since neither have particularly good memories of that fight) and which name sounds cooler (this just desolves into them being petty and insulting the name they donât like).
That results in Percy thinking his name is Jason and Jason thinking he is Percy for the majority of their time in Colorado before another monster mentions their names again- which doesnât confirm anything, just sets off the argument again.
They eventually come across a monster who was actually clear on which name went to which face during a memorable fight in Amarillo involving a tornado warning, two (2) warrants (one for Percy, and one for an innocent bystander), an alligator, the discovery that Jason can actually fly, and the agreement to never ever mention that taco stand ever again.
But even with the apparent confirmation on whoâs who, they are never actually sure until they show up in Florida.
They never forget that one time in Colorado when they confused a monster so bad with who is who that Jason was able to get the drop on it tho.
But imagine if they encounter a centaur and are utterly clueless about what they are and they only see the top half when they ask them for directions or smth.
Percy Jackson: Excuse me, sir, do you know where we can get a ride forâ Holy shit, you have a horse for an ass.
when they wake up after being teleported and their memories wiped, they have a big argument over whose weapon is whose. They both want a pen-sword but they also both want a golden spear/sword.

Percy Jackson & The Curse of Achilles
Namely, why it isnât talked about enough, and why it should not have been dismissed so easily.
Firstly, some reminders on what the curse of Achilles actually is, and why itâs such a big deal:
You get the curse of Achilles by bathing in the River Styx. The River Styx forms the boundary between the Underworld and the Earth. In Greek mythology, it symbolizes the passage of life to death. Swearing on it is the highest form of an oath that you can make in Greek mythology, partly because the goddess Styx sided with the gods during the Titan War and it was how they honored her for that, but mostly because you donât mess with the buffer between life and death.
The River Styx sucks your soul out of your body. If you drown in the River Styx, your soul ceases to exist. Since the Styx is between life and death, if you drown in it, you get trapped between life and the afterlife, which, in Greek mythology, is a zone that souls canât exist between.
But, if you can survive the River of Styx trying to rip your soul out, then you get a reward: invincibility⌠or, at least, conditional invincibility.
You need one spot on your body to remain vulnerable, because thatâs where your mortality, otherwise known as your soul, is anchored. True invincibility is considered a form of immortality, because humans die in one of two ways: aging (which, for this purpose, includes illness), or they get injured. So if you canât get injured, youâre partially immortal. And, in Greek mythology, immortals donât have souls. So, if you want to avoid losing your soul in the river, then you need to anchor it to a spot on your body.
In the Last Olympian, Achilles explains this to Percy: âHero, if you must do this, concentrate on your mortal point. Imagine one spot of your body that will remain vulnerable. This is the point where your soul will anchor your body to the world. It will be your greatest weakness, but also your only hope. No man may be completely invulnerable. Lose sight of what keeps you mortal, and the River Styx will burn you to ashes. You will cease to exist.â
The point is, essentially, no man can be completely invulnerable because then he isnât really a man anymore. And, since there are divine rules about achieving immortality, you arenât allowed to obtain it without the godsâ consent. Thatâs actually a huge part of the Achilles story: the reason his mother dipped him in the Styx in the first place is because she was trying to make him a god, but she wasnât allowed to do that, so the heel remained vulnerable.
The problem is, thereâs only one vulnerable spot. Other than that, you are completely invincible. So, if you lose sight of that one mortal point, you become arrogant, and begin to behave as an immortal, because, for the most part, you kind of are.
Think about it. You act more recklessly if you know youâll come out unscathed, but without risk factor, life quickly becomes mundane. Thatâs why the immortals are so bitter. Thereâs a quote that Achilles says in Troy: âThe gods envy us. They envy us because weâre mortal, because any moment may be our last. Everything is more beautiful because weâre doomed.â And the reason why he says this quote is because he sympathizes with how the gods feel, and he understands this concept on a personal level. Because heâs fought battles his whole life, watching his comrades and enemies die, and he always, always comes out fine, because he cannot be killed.
The myth of Achilles is commonly told as a cautionary tale: donât lose sight of your weaknesses, or theyâll be your downfall. And Achilles did lose sight of his mortality⌠because itâs incredibly easy to do. And this is what he tries so desperately to warn Luke and Percy of before they decide to take the curse. Thatâs why his warning is so significant: he lost touch with his own mortality, and it cost him his life.
Taking on the curse of Achilles is a radically life altering event, which is reinforced by Hestia, Chiron, Nico, and Achilles himself. Because not only is the process of bathing in the Styx incredibly dangerous, but because bearing the curse totally changes the way you fight, think, and view the world. By taking the curse, youâre right on the edge of immortality, which can cause recklessness, arrogance, and even boredom, since you cannot die in battle.
The curse of Achilles has a lot more to do with immortality than it does invulnerability. Last Olympian makes a lot more sense when you look at it in this light. The reason Luke needed to bathe in the Styx before hosting Kronos is because Kronos cannot be contained in a mortal body. And the reason Percy needs to bathe in the Styx is because he canât fight an immortal in a mortal body. The curse of Achilles kind of gets treated like a wicked edge in battle, but itâs a lot more complex and important than that. Now, the theme of immortality is hugely, insanely relevant in Last Olympian. As is the concept of learning to yield. Thatâs the entire point of the book.
And we see that the pull of immortality has an effect on Percy. He is a very humble person (and very prone to self-loathing and insecurity, which is not the same thing, but it definitely prevents him from getting a big head), which is probably the only reason that he doesnât immediately become arrogant. And even Percy has some less-than-humble moments, although they are fleeting: laughing while he fights the army on the Williamsburg Bridge, and being tempted to wipe out the whole army on the bridge, even though he knows he should pull back. He literally almost dies on the bridge, because heâs already lost track of his mortal point (and also because he didnât have time to get armor and was literally fighting in jeans and a t-shirt, but).
Thereâs also a very interesting moment in Last Olympian when Percy is thinking about the hopelessness of the war, and suddenly feels strange about bearing the curse: âThere was hardly a single demigod who hadnât already been wounded⌠except me.â
The curse is shown to have an impact on Percy and Annabethâs relationship, because there are a few moments where Annabeth finds that⌠she really canât keep up with him anymore. This comes up on the Williamsburg Bridge, when he tells her to help the Apollo cabin set traps while he holds off the army. It also comes up before Percy goes to visit the East and Hudson river gods, while Annabeth sits on shore twiddling her thumbs, and is far from happy about it.
Of course, Percy still desperately needs Annabeth, maybe more than ever. Sheâs his anchor, after all. Itâs not a coincidence that Annabeth is Percyâs anchor to the mortal world and sheâs also the one to take the knife that would have killed him. Sheâs his anchor for precisely that reason. He relies on her to keep him grounded, and keep him in check (he does the same for her, which is why their relationship works).
The really interesting component to Last Olympian, which was an excellent touch, is that even though Percy is more powerful than ever, in the end, the most important thing he does is step back when necessary. This is the significance of Rachelâs, âPerseus, you are not the hero,â prophecy. This is also what Hestia teaches Percy, particularly when she says, âNot all powers are spectacular. Sometimes the hardest power to master is the power of yielding.â In the end, it doesnât come down to a grand, spectacular fight, but instead, to a single moment, when Percy hands Luke the knife.
The book also really hones in on how to use power responsibly. Percy challenges three separate gods to help defeat Kronos: Leneus, Poseidon, and Hades, all of whom wanted to focus on their own realm. And all three of them join the fight. Percy also challenges the gods to treat their children better, which we see realized in the oath.
Immortality comes up again in the end, however: because Percy is asked to become a god. And he turns it down, because thatâs not what Percy wants. Itâs why heâs the best suited to bearing the curse of Achilles, because heâs the least likely to be tempted to lose touch with his mortality.
The real key is that Percy doesnât want to be immortal, but he almost is. Percy just wants to be normal, and now he never can be. It shows just how much heâs willing to sacrifice for this world, and, more specifically, for the people he loves. Percy is actually afraid of taking the curse; he calls Nicoâs idea scary, and puts it off for an entire year, because he doesnât like it. He does end up taking the curse, but not because heâs thirsty for power, but because, âI have to. Otherwise, I donât stand a chance.â Heâs willing to sacrifice a part of his own mortality to keep these people safe, despite the fact that his highest ambition in life is to be a normal man.
Sacrificing part of your mortality isnât something that can just be undone. Itâs a seriously intense decision, and thatâs why Achilles personally comes to issue a warning. Because itâs life-altering, and could potentially end in disaster. So although Percy doesnât want it, he needs to live with it now. He needs to learn how to live with it, because thatâs how life works.
Except, Percy doesnât have to learn to live with it, because he gets it conveniently removed a few months later. This is by far the most ridiculous part of Son of Neptune, and represents a major fall out of series-to-series continuity.
Curse of Achilles in Last Olympian: radical, life-altering, dangerous, costs you part of your mortal life.
Curse of Achilles in Son of Neptune: oh, that old Greek blessing? The Tiber will wash away, no biggie.
If you go straight from Last Olympian to Son of Neptune, you can see that this is some seriously ridiculous bullshit. I mean, just think about it from an analytical perspective. Seriously, are we supposed to believe that had Achilles himself walked across the Tiber, he, too, would have lost his invulnerability? The curse of Achilles doesnât come with a warranty. Itâs a life deal. It costs you a piece of your mortality. Thatâs not something that can be overlooked. Does the Tiber have powers to restore your mortal soul back into your physical body? Does the Tiber have the power to remove your physical anchor to the mortal world? How does that even make sense? Itâs literally explained that you canât hold onto the curse because the Tiber is Roman, and the curse is Greek, andâŚ. and why in the world should that be true? Itâs not true about anything else. It makes no sense. Itâs not even explained.
The loss of the curse isnât explored at all. Percy doesnât even think about it once itâs gone. It never comes up again.
Youâd think that Percy would care more? He hasnât been injured in months? Heâs been fighting with it for months? His fighting style adapted, and now he has to quickly figure out a way to revert to his old style, because, oh, yeah, now he bleeds and gets broken bones and bruises. If you canât be injured, then your fighting style would be all offense, simply because it makes sense. Now, suddenly, heâs back on the defensive. Except thereâs no learning curve, thereâs no mention of this process at all.
Does Annabeth even know? I mean, she was upset that the gray hair was fading because she felt like she lost a symbolic bond. Imagine how much more of an impact the loss of the curse would have. She was his anchor to the mortal world, and he trusted her with his only weakness, and then itâs just taken away, and they donât even discuss it. Sheâd also have to adapt too, because Iâm sure she was a lot less worried about him when she knew he couldnât be injured. I bet they fought back to back more, so she could defend his only undefended side. I bet sheâd started to work it to her advantage, because itâs a massive fucking advantage and youâd be stupid not to utilize it. But again, no learning curve, no compensation for this at all.
Most significantly, though: there was absolutely no reason to remove the curse.
The only, the only, reason I can conceive of to remove the curse is so that Percy would have less of a wicked advantage over the rest of the seven. Namely, Jason.
It essentially boils down to, oops, I accidentally made my main character way too powerful, and now I need to think of a very convenient way to take this power away, and then not explain it!
Itâs called Diabolus ex Machina: the introduction of an unexpected new event, character, ability, or object designed to ensure that things suddenly get much worse for the protagonists, much better for the villains, or both. (this happens a lot in Heroes of Olympus, but it would take me far too long to get into it here).
Ironically, the removal in Son of Neptune also makes the curse seem like a Deus ex Machina solution in Last Olympian. Deus ex Machina is when some new event, character, ability, or object solves a seemingly unsolvable problem in a sudden, unexpected way. Now, the curse in Last Olympian was handled really well, but since it was removed after it had served its purpose, it essentially turns into a shiny new ability that has no lasting impact on the characters or the plotline.
If youâre gonna give a character an ability like that, then you have got to go all out. If you take it away for convenience, youâre cheapening the storyline, and cheapening the character. There need to be repercussions from such a monumental decision, or youâve lost all sense of continuity. There is a way to take power away, but this isnât it.
The most hysterical part of this whole mess, and by hysterical I mean fucking infuriating, is that Percy doesnât even get injured in a way that the curse of Achilles would have protected him from. He gets poisoned, suffocated, and restrained, all of which were perfectly viable options while the curse was still in place. The only significant time he draws blood is a fucking nosebleed, and even that could still have been done with the curse of Achilles in effect. (Frankly, though, thereâs absolutely no reason that Percyâs blood has to be the one to wake Gaea, and I think itâs ludicrous that Annabeth is the only one who got wounded in that battle. Itâs also never explained why Percy and Annabethâs blood would be âpreferableâ to wake the goddess, so that whole scene is fucking bullshit to begin with.)
But, truly, the most ironic part is that the series would have been so much better if the curse was left in place.
Listen up: I think itâs generally agreed upon that Percyâs character was dumped on in Heroes of Olympus, in order to make the other characters (namely Jason and Leo) shine brighter by comparison (if youâre unfamiliar with that, thereâs a little bit about it here, here, and here).
Short version is that Percy is given a bunch of new issues that he doesnât really have (his weird Alpha Male personality switch in Mark of Athena that is wildly out of character for him), or, has skeletons pulled out of his closet (everything in Tartarus basically) and then conveniently shoved back in the closet to focus on the other characters. The problem is Percy had already grown up and undergone well-handled character development in PJO, and so what essentially happened is that fake development was forced by creating new issues (you can read a really good example of that here).
But if the curse of Achilles would have remained present, that wouldnât have happened. Because that was the one loose end of PJO: Percy really didnât have the curse long enough to fully understand it by the time the book ended. So, since he didnât get that chance in PJO, that would have been the perfect thing to explore in HOO. But itâs not explored.
Can you imagine how much more intense everything would have been with the curse of Achilles? The scene with Jason in Kansas would have escalated that much more (did i mention that the only reason the curse was removed was so this scene could happen), and Percy would have been that much more unsettled over who the winner would have been (if we ignore the fact that this alpha male thing is massively ooc for him).
Imagine how insanely heartbreaking and intense the scene with the Arai would have been, since it had been so long since Percy felt pain. Imagine how much more disturbing it would have been, and how much more distressed Annabeth would have been.
The Romans would have feared him that much more, giving even more opportunity for Percy to feel like an outcast
Imagine Percyâs guilt when the rest of the seven keep getting injured and he is always fine??????
Percy would have had to deal with the concept that even though it seems like a blessing sometimes, it really is a curse, because he can never get back to the way he was. Fully coming to understanding, and eventually acceptance, of the curse could have been an incredible plotline.
Percyâs struggle for acceptance and normalcy is the most significant area that requires development, and keeping the curse would have been an incredible way to explore that.
I shed a tear for its potential. Someone write me an au, pretty please.
So, I see I have caused some reactions with that latest chapter of SOSF...for that I am sorry. As an apology I made some memes you might like?
(btw I see all of you tagging me in stuff. Imma reblog them soon but I'm trying to wait until the chapter has been out for a bit before doling out the spoilers)
That being said... Some spoilers for chapter 9 below đ
