Y'know, my favorite part about people constantly insisting that Marchosias definitely muted Mestor for disobeying/displeasing him, is the idea that they think someone like Marchosias wouldn't appreciate honesty. You know, the guy who spent his entire life being lied into submission to by the Bishops? Yes, I'm sure he'd love the idea of his packmates all being two-faced sycophants, just like the gods and cultists he literally ran away from. Ah yes, Marchosias, well-known hater of free speech.
(Also, sidenote, if he really hated Mestor enough to do that, he'd have sooner killed him and the other two afaic. Why bother keeping them around if they're that much of a problem already?)
They're really all in on the "hypocrisy" angle for some reason. they got a specific idea of Marchosias in their head and decided everyone needed to share it because it was the only thing they could come up with. (Cause they don't know how to analyze media). To the extent of making up something as asinine and contrived as shock therapy gauntlets to make their HC make sense. Except they think their HC is canon, as is typical for this fandom....
Like we aren't even shown Marchosias being a hypocrite, so I have no clue why people think this take is canon. theres no reason to think he would lie to the pack or create a community that would lie to him/each other. It defeats the purpose of establishing the Free Pack as something objectively different from the cults. That ""theory"" (read: headcanon) depends on a lot of other things to be true to hold water. And those things aren't. the very premise of Marcy's character would have to be different for this "evil super villain" that hates everyone and abuses the pack and is just another flavor of cult leader to be the canon read of him lmfao.
Like you guys are just describing Narinder. We don't need a second Narinder.
All of this because he doesn't praise the player for choosing to give up a heart lol. That's not hypocrisy, that's the point he's making. That even the Gods that seem "good" actually suck. Their motivations are always selfish, and anything that resembles altruism is a coincidence. Because at the end of the day, they all choose to be cult leaders. The Winter doctrines prove that not even Yngya, the "purest" of all of them, was an exception.
It also just doesn't make sense narratively.... "yeah, here's this character thats exactly like the rest and ultimately adds nothing to the story, because everything they said they did is a lie." What the fuck would be the point of introducing his character then? We already knew there were random cults littering the Lands, did we really need one of those nobodies to be the primary antagonist? For what? Just to have someone for Lamb to beat up?
No, the point of the Free Pack was to parallel Yngya's cult. The point of Woolhaven was to tell a story. And there is no story to tell with the version of fanon Marchosias they've created.
Anyways, I went on a tangent lol
Marchosias cutting out Mestor's tongue, and then brainwashing all three brothers to make them forget that happened, doesn't make sense for his character, adds nothing to the story, and actively contradicts the message they're going for. The brainwashing part is something people like to disregard when trying to force this HC to work. You don't just forget who cut out your tongue.
And that is also not something. That happens. Accidentally.
People think they're "reading between the lines" when they are legitimately just making things up. But then they come at us sideways like we're stupid for not agreeing with the made up version of the events they came up with.
