Who is crawling around the kitchen!?

Here's my version of Usagi's parents for my UY reimagining!! We never really know much about his dad and his mother is pretty much a nonexistent character, so I have a lot of freedom to explore their personalities and relationship with Usagi.

Yoshiro (義郎) is the headman of his home village and is fully dedicated to his job. As a typical man of this era, he isn't really one to express his feelings or have deep talks, but he deeply cares for his family and village.

Chiyoko (千代子) is a loving mother and wife. Surprisingly, she's the one to encourage Usagi the most to become a samurai. About her design, I decided to push myself to try something different and tried to mimic a taregami kind of hairstyle with her long ears (I know it's a Heian era hairstyle but hey, I couldn't miss the opportunity that she's a lop eared rabbit). It's far from perfect, but I'm quite proud that I didn't go with the easiest option. I was also inspired by ancient paintings of court ladies to give her a round face and fine eyes!

So... guess who's making a UY reimagining? (still don't have a name)😶 My favorite part is, of course, adapting the characters' designs to my style and world building and oh my god... I am absolutely IN LOVE with how these three cinnamon rolls look... (will they look just as adorable as grown ups?)

First of all, Stan Sakai didn't have to do my boy Kenichi so dirty... even as a kid he looked rough 😭 My idea is to keep the most recognizable characteristics of the canon characters in my designs so I tried to draw Kenichi's dorito ahh head shape in a less brutal way... Usagi's design is pretty much the same way I just casually draw him, red eyes and the three fur spikes coming from his cheeks and Mariko... she's my number one out of the bunch 🤍 I just feel like I made such a great job with her. Her "hair" is actually overgrown fur that gives the impression of human-like hair, so it must be similar to the fur in both shape and color (this will work the same way with every character regardless of their gender or race). Personally, I hate it when ALL of the female anthro characters have hair and exaggerated hairstyles... If anything, it makes their designs so much less creative and more limited than the males'. It's really not fair so expect some big updates about the female cast of my reimagining *wink wink*.

Also, I decided to start drawing them with 5 fingers and toes cuz ackshually most mammals have five digits/toes ☝️🤓 Besides, five fingered hands look more expressive imo. I think that's all I have to say (and show) at the moment... enjoy the arts! Opinions, questions and/or constructive criticism are welcomed. 🙆

Wanted to do something "quick" and decided to redraw in my style a Stan Sakai illustration featuring Katsuichi and child Usagi (changed his clothing to blue because he looks more iconic)... made me realize how much I love drawing Usagi as a happy kid before becoming a depressed rōnin tormented by his past :,)
